This Q3 episode is with a special guest and old classmate!  Folu Adeyeye is a brand marketing and digital professional passionate about marketing and innovation with a deep love for Africa. He's constantly working on exciting projects even as he leads the African Leadership University in Mauritius.  We catch up on old times and also talk about Folu's experience even though his working is still in Africa and he highlights the common feelings we have about moving abroad-even if it is within the same continent. The outcome of being open-minded is that you get to understand how best to engage with other people. On this week's guest episode, I speak with David McNeill the founder of Expat Empire.  Prior to building Expat Empire, David left the United States in 2014 after working in Investment Banking and and Product Management and has since lived in Tokyo, Berlin, and Porto. Starting all over in a new country often brings us to confront our fears and so many other aspects of life. This is what happened to Dayana Robolledo when she moved from Venezuela to Canada at 17! She's now a Marketing and Project Manager in one of the biggest Fortune 500 Consumer Package Goods business in the world, and also a life coach. Dayana shares the bold decisions she took to get there and how learning English didn't stop her from achieving her dreams. The common mistake immigrants make even when you're highly-skilled is to immediately get another degree even they recently had one after moving.  There is nothing wrong with that! At the same time when you dig deeper, you are only dealing with the symptoms and not the root cause of your lack of opportunities.  If you are struggling to use your degree and skills to the fullest capacity as you envisioned, then maybe you need a different approach. Tayde Gonzalez leverages TikTok to educate people. She was selected by TikTok for their creator learning program and now she teaches professionals to use TikTok to build a solid digital footprint. Having moved from Mexico to California as a young girl, she experienced first-hand how her foreign experience as a Spanish speaking lady, gave an opportunity to work in product design in the fashion industry to travel around the world. We are reminded to "always be proud of your culture and were you come from, you never know what door it can open for you". In this solo episode, I discuss how to excel on a team panel when working abroad. There are three (3) ways to know who you should expect on a team panel and how to excel when presenting to such people. You can also apply this strategy during virtual and in-person meetings. Find out the type of people on the panel; this way you can know how best to get their attention and relay your message.
