I recently caught up with with Snezana Djuric to discuss the nuances of CEO coaching. We delved deep into two primary challenges that I've observed many CEOs, including myself, grapple with: managing stress and the intricacies of delegation. Together we explore the significance of clarity, suggesting that understanding the root cause of stress is the first step towards managing it. By simply documenting our concerns, we can gain a clearer perspective, helping transition from a state of overwhelm to one of control.Delegation was another focal point of our conversation. I've often felt the urge to complete tasks myself, thinking it's quicker and more efficient. However, Snezana highlighted the long-term benefits of entrusting tasks to team members, allowing them to grow and bring fresh perspectives to the table. Reflecting on our discussion, I'm reminded of the continuous need for clarity in leadership. It's not just about setting goals but consistently revisiting and realigning them with our original vision. This conversation reinforced my belief in the journey of leadership, emphasizing the importance of each step along the way.Full notes here: https://insights.liv.so/p/how-ceos-can-reduce-stress-and-delegating

I caught up this morning over breakdast with Malaysian business radio BFM to talk about the global economy and my view on where interest rates, stock markets and the general economy is heading into July 2023. Rate rises are starting to have an impact and as I discuss, it's not a matter of if, but when the rises will start to have an impact on jobs. We saw US jobs call from 339k per month to 209k last month, with revisions down to the previous month too. Are these early signs of a crack and that interest rate rises have perhaps gone too far? I recently caught up with Byron McCaughey, who hosts the Psychlings Podcast. Byron and I go back to 2019 where we met at an accelerator program in London. Both of us were Aussies, living on the other side of the world, trying to make our mark on the business world. Byron and his co-founder's startup hit a rough patch and they both decided to pull up stumps and focus on other things in life, something which I found to be very noble and gracious at the time. Byron has since forged a career in psychology, adding to his distinguished academic career. In this episode, I speak to him about the lessons from business he used to build his new career where his long term passion was. We speak about business failure, how to pivot, the importance of mental fitness and leadership development as a lifelong process. I recently shared my market insights on stocks, real estate, and crypto during an interview with Malaysian business radio station BFM. US stocks have surged into bull market territory, yet the fog of uncertainty still hangs heavy, surrounding the Federal Reserve's rate hikes and the elusive path of inflation. We eagerly await distinct signals of a peak and a downward trend in inflation before drawing any firm conclusions. Although jobless claims have recently risen and the labour market shows signs of cooling, I remain unconvinced that these indicators alone signify a turnaround in inflation. We need to witness a sustained decrease in inflation over a period of three to six months before central banks might consider altering their stance.
