I have come to learn recently that there are two main pathways to happiness - The Hedonic Pathway chasing pleasure and enjoyment while avoiding pain and the Eudaimonic Pathway seeking purpose and meaning through living with virtue. In this episode I attempt to speak to your pain recognizing that you feel trapped in the Hedonic pathway which is causing you suffering in chronic illness, chronic pain, emotional madness, and perhaps caught in a spiritual crisis of identity. The Hedonic Pathway to happiness is fleeting never truly satisfying our Soul. Therefore, pleasure leads to addiction and pain leads to aversion. If you maintain an identity within this pathway then happiness is only found in the people, places and things of this world. Something outside of you makes you happy. You are essentially needing immediate gratification as your 'source' of happiness. Eventually you will feel empty "masturbating with life" and look to fill that emptiness with more Hedonic pleasure thinking more will silence the empty feeling. It doesn't and you don't feel more happiness inside. You have "sold your soul to the devil"It also speaks loudly to the Lord's Prayer Our Father - where it ends with "...and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen."The Eudaimonic Pathway to happiness is eternal because it satisfies the Soul within. It establishes a connection to the source of life and the source of love within oneself. It is not necessarily free from fears or pain, yet it is freedom from suffering as you navigate within yourself, cultivating your true heart to transcend the suffering.Both pathways express the Eastern Philosophy of Karma ~ " What you sow you reap."In Daniel Goldstein's 2011 Ted Talk "The Battle Between Your Present and Future Self" He quotes N.W. Senior as saying "To Obstain from the enjoyment which is in our power, or seek distant rather than immediate results, are among the most painful exertions of the human will." And so living with virtue means cultivating and practicing virtues of Self Mastery, Wisdom, Courage, Love, Hope, Gratitude, Curiosity and Zest. Through which one 'makes love to life' and fill their life with purpose and meaning. Intermittent and extended water fasting has a great deal of momentum on the internet and I wanted to share with you some of the concepts to consider exploring in your life to gain the benefits associated with such strategies to improve your vitality and overall wellbeing.I share four books and authors that you can search on the internet and especiall youtube as they all have a stong presence on social media outlets.First some conceptsIntermittent Fasting is Eating Less Often and giving your body a shorter window of consuming caloric foods and a longer period of rest and digest. An example would be to consume food and caloric beveraes within an 6, 8 or 10 hour period leaving 18, 16 or 14 hours for you digestive system to rest. Intermittent fasting is the beginning of Metabolic Rehabilitation to restore your metabolism to burn and efficiently utilize Ketones (a by product of burning fat) as a fuel source; especially prefered by the Brain and HeartDiet Variation: Once adapted to fat burning and utilizing Ketone we may want to mix up our diet variation with a fasting and feasting cycle. We may have an intermittent cycle of 6 hours of feeding and 18hours of fasting 3x per week, 2 feast days where we consume a little more carbohydrates of more protein and say two days of 1 meal only or a 24 hour fasting day. Remember this is an artistic practice and you can play around with this concept. Extended water fasting is ideally consuming water only for 3,5 , 7, or more days with 5 being scientifically accepted as the best amount of days to shoot for especially for beginners. Also, it would be wise to fat adapted before venturing into the extended water fast and therefore, practicing intermittent fasting for 5, 6 or more weeks. To help you know if you are becoming fat adapted it is necessary to measure blood glucose levels and ketone levels. I use a keto-mojo for this purpose. During my fast this week I measured BG -81 and Ketones - 3.0 with a Keto Index of 1,5 which is a deep state of autophagy or nutritional ketosis. Extended water fasting has three phasesThe preparatory phase - get you mind right, get your home and environment right and get your support rightThe fasting phase - listen to your body and mind. You may need to make some modifications so you can roll with this and not create a huge stressful event where you will yourself through it in pride. The goal is practice not perfectionThe post phase - very important as to not consume lots of food or carbohydrates or sugars! This could be a disaster leading you to be really sick.It is all about metabolic rehabilitation and down regulating leptin and insulin surges thus blood sugar control, increasing insulin sensitivity, down regulating inflammation, improving gut and immune system function, anti-aging, and numerous other benefits. If you find that you have difficulty with either intermittent fasting or extended water fasting consider you might have high levels of stored cellular toxicity. Certainly a literal definition can be found defining it as the physiological or medical removal of toxic substances from a living organism which is mainly carried out by the liver. There are many other literal definitions, however, in this episode I offer a bigger view, a broader picture of detoxificaiton which aims to detoxify and purify your Soul at the highest level and your bodily cells at the lowest levels.Yet as you mobilize, neutralize and eliminate toxins from your body systems and going deeper into your cells, then you eventually start to detoxify and purify your Soul. This allows you the opportunity to live from your True Heart, Authentic Self and come closer to Self Actualization in this life time. Soul or Spirit through your mind heals your body, and Spirit through your body heals your mind.
