It’s hard to determine sometimes if we feel incompetent, or if we simply lack the belief in our own competency. As healthcare providers who constantly strive to provide better care, we can grow in self-doubt, sometimes unable to shake the feeling off. In this episode, I’ll be sharing with you my own personal experience where doubt almost got in the way of my gut feeling from years in service. Don’t forget to tune in on this short little chat!   Episode Highlights: Emotional exhaustion and self-efficacy Determinants of self-efficacy A personal experience of mine with a patient By determining if you are lacking competency, you help prevent burnout and stress   References: Lopez-Garrido, G (2020, Aug 09). Self-efficacy. It can be so easy for us as healthcare providers to forgo our own needs when addressing patients, sometimes it just rests at the back of our minds, later to be forgotten and further to be suppressed. But, that really doesn’t have to be the case for us. In this episode, I’ll talk to you about keeping our integrity at the forefront and being sure to keep in tune with ourselves first, all while giving our patients the care they need and deserve-- without it coming at our own expense.   Episode Highlights: Why we shouldn’t give too much of ourselves to our work How can you get back to your integrity? Physician burnout is a widespread issue and is worsening with the onset of this pandemic. From being overworked, understaffed, and undermanaged; our healthcare workers are facing much bigger hurdles and challenges where they’re expected to work and sacrifice critical aspects of their own personal lives. In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Suryadutt Venkat, a family care physician and the Medical Director of Encompass Family Medicine, to share with us the factors of physician burnout, why it’s happening, and what we can do. Hop in and join the conversation!    Episode Highlights: Why Dr. Venkat became a doctor Why Dr. Venkat thinks burnout is increasing among primary care providers Do EMRs and Patient Portals work? Unconsciously, we can easily overlook how something is impacting us in our life. Be it from our friendships, relationships, and the like. But in my case-- it’s my mom; a kind and caring person, one of the closest people to me on this earth. Through my relationship with my mom, I was taught to pour my heart into my work and everything I do-- to be sure that I give my all to those that need my help where I can offer it. I like to credit her for this, because so many of my own clients come to me and they tell me that I work with so much heart. Be sure to tune into this short episode, where I share with you how you can channel these positive things into your life, and how they can manifest in our daily lives.   Episode Highlights: Pouring heart into your work Being authentically there for your patients How my mother inspires me daily Keeping boundaries with patients and people   Connect with Jennifer George: @bestobsessed_with_jenn | Instagram Jennifer George | Website @jenngeorge08) | Twitter Jennifer George | Facebook Click here to check out my book about connecting with patients to improve their care!
Today’s a bit of a short episode-- but trust me when I say it can definitely be overlooked in our work. Authentic communication is at the root of prime patient care. Not only does it help them heal mentally, but it also allows us to provide them with much better support since they’d be more open to talking to us about their discomforts and how they truly are feeling. In this episode, I’ll be sharing with you different experiences of mine where communication really played a huge role in understanding my patients pain and care.   Episode Highlights: Why I’m so passionate about communication An example of authentic communication with a patient Why communication is so important   Connect with Jennifer George: @bestobsessed_with_jenn | Instagram Jennifer George | Website @jenngeorge08) | Twitter Jennifer George | Facebook Click here to check out my book about connecting with patients to improve their care!
Each of us has faced burnout one way or another, and sometimes we aren’t prepared to handle such big emotions that we’ve absorbed throughout the day. In this episode, I’m joined by Dr. Christian and Dr. Caroline Heim. Dr. Christian Heim is an award-winning clinical psychiatrist with over 20 years of experience in the industry. Today they’ll walk us through ways we can prevent burnout, investing in only 5 minutes of our day to save us days of stress following. I hope you stay and listen in for this insightful and eye-opening discussion!   Episode Highlights: Shelving emotions and its effects Tools we can use for trauma Empathy and the medical industry during the pandemic The difference between repression and suppression   Connect with Dr. Christian and Caroline Heim: Website | Dr Christian Heim: Preventative Mental Health YouTube | Dr Christian Heim Instagram | Dr Christian Heim Psychiatrist (@drchristianheim)   Connect with Jennifer George: @bestobsessed_with_jenn | Instagram Jennifer George | Website @jenngeorge08) | Twitter Jennifer George | Facebook Click here to check out my book about connecting with patients to improve their care!
Advocacies are meant to be shared, they’re meant to be preached. So why are we holding ourselves back? Join me today for a little chat about how we can start using our voices for good-- contributing to a better future for patients and providers alike. In this episode, I’d really love to go into detail about the main difference between complaining and advocating-- where its roots lay and how they’re driven. I know a lot of people that prefer to be quiet, they prefer not to face the retribution from others, and while I understand that-- it’s definitely something that needs to change. I hope you stay and hear me out this episode as I state my own advocacy and call you all to action as well!   Episode Highlights: Why some people choose to stay silent The fine line between complaining and advocating   Connect with Jennifer George: @bestobsessed_with_jenn | Instagram Jennifer George | Website @jenngeorge08) | Twitter Jennifer George | Facebook   Click here to check out my book about connecting with patients to improve their care!
Since healing is just as much mental as it is physical, join me over a cup of warm tea as I chat with you about ways in which you can help your patients highlight and connect with their goals. I’ll briefly talk about an experience of mine with a patient that could no longer walk, but thanks to setting goals and building motivation, we helped her change her life for the better. Be sure to listen in and hopefully this will inspire you to take a different approach to patient care and helping them!   Episode Highlights: What to ask our patients to visualise their goals Rethinking how we help them take on Challenges   Connect with Jennifer George: @bestobsessed_with_jenn | Instagram Jennifer George | Website @jenngeorge08) | Twitter Jennifer George | Facebook Click here to check out my book about connecting with patients to improve their care!
