We all tend to fall into one of two ditches – licentiousness or legalism – but the grace of Jesus rescues us from both. Grace reveals that our worth isn’t found in how much we perform or how far we’ve strayed, but in what Jesus has already done. In Luke 7, a Pharisee’s self-righteousness and a broken woman’s worship collide, and Jesus makes clear that forgiveness and love flow not from rule-keeping, but from grace received through faith. The gospel isn’t just that Jesus died for our sin; it’s that He lives for our righteousness. When we truly grasp this, grace becomes a fountain of love that overflows from our lives into the world around us. When we understand the depth of God’s grace, we can’t help but let His love overflow into the lives of those around us.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. When asked what mattered most, Jesus pointed us back to something ancient and foundational—the Shema: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.” God doesn’t just want a part of us, He wants the whole person. Real love for God isn’t compartmentalized; it’s a fully integrated response of heart, mind, and action. Feelings alone can’t sustain love, but neither can obedience without affection. We love because He first loved us. Before the foundation of the world, He set His love on us. Jesus invites us into a relationship where every part of who we are is ordered around Him. Where have our loves drifted? The invitation to us is to return to our first love and reorient our lives around the One who loved us first. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Do you truly know God or do you just know about Him? Sometimes deep-seeded unbelief can take root in our hearts. It manifests as an unwillingness to trust God or take Him at His Word. In this passage, Jesus confronts the Sadducees for their willful ignorance, a refusal to know truth. Yet even in His rebuke, there’s good news: if Jesus says they’re wrong, it means there is a right. Jesus shows that real faith is found in knowing the truth, knowing eternal life, and knowing God Himself. The Sadducees rejected the supernatural, lived as if this world was all there is, and tried to keep God at arm’s length. But Jesus invites us into something far better—a living relationship with the God of the living. Do you truly know Him? Or have you kept Him at a distance? God is calling us to repent of unbelief and step into faith, to know His truth, His power, and His eternal life. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Many people think leadership is about talent, charisma, or gifting—the “it” factor that makes someone stand out. But Jesus defines leadership differently. He emphasizes faithfulness over talent and warns us not to confuse giftedness with godliness. True leaders set an example in every area of life, not just in what they do but in who they are. We teach what we know, but we reproduce who we are. The goal of Christian leadership is to bring people into spiritual maturity. If everyone around you followed your example, what kind of community would it create? In God’s kingdom, success isn’t measured by charisma or influence, but by Christlike character, integrity, and faithfulness. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. For Christians, what we do with our relationships is the most important thing about us. Our walk with Jesus is meant to be lived out in community, with relationships as the very place where our faith takes shape. We should be able to identify the quality of someone’s faith by looking at their relationships. Jesus reorders our priorities: Him first, others second, ourselves third. The only reason we aspire to leadership is to love and serve others, not for status or recognition. The quality of our faith is revealed in the way we love, forgive, and remain committed to others. Yet relationships are messy—people offend, disappoint, and wound us. The real question is, what will we do with those offenses? Scripture calls us to forgive, to reconcile, and to make every effort to live in unity. Those who know they’ve been forgiven by Jesus extend His grace freely, refusing bitterness and choosing love. In this way, our relationships become a living testimony of His transforming presence. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. In a world marked by fear, anxiety, and insecurity, Jesus stands out as the most confident and courageous leader who ever lived. He was not insecure, not swayed by people’s opinions, not ruled by fear. And because of Him, we’ve been given everything we need to walk with that same humble confidence and bold courage. True confidence isn’t a personality trait—it’s a trust issue. When our confidence is in God alone, we can live both humble and bold. Gospel confidence becomes the launch pad, and courage is what propels us into God’s calling. In an anxious age, the world desperately needs leaders who carry a non-anxious presence—the steadying presence of Jesus. Will we shrink back, or will we step forward with boldness to embody His peace and His courage in the very places He’s sending us?You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. Jesus’ leadership was marked by both grace and truth—never one at the expense of the other. Truth sets boundaries, confronts sin, and reveals God’s standards. Grace offers forgiveness, kindness, and help for people to flourish. When we look at Jesus’ interactions—the woman at the well, the woman caught in adultery—we see Him refusing to excuse sin while still welcoming sinners. Too often, we lean toward one side: emphasizing grace in a way that tolerates sin, or emphasizing truth in a way that crushes people under legalism. But Jesus shows us a better way. Compassion, not mere empathy, allows us to feel for others while staying anchored in God’s truth, offering comfort and correction. As His people, we’re called to represent Him by walking in this same framework of grace and truth—speaking truth in love, extending compassion, and standing firm in a culture that often demands one without the other. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. The way of Jesus is the way of humility—and yet pride lurks in every one of our hearts. Pride keeps us comparing, striving, and resisting God, while humility positions us to receive His grace. True Christian leadership is not marked by pride or self-importance but by a posture of humility, following the example of Jesus who became a servant. Scripture is clear: God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). True humility is not misery, weakness, or hiding who you are—it’s seeing everything as a gift, boasting only in Christ, and living to serve others. Pride deceives us, but humility frees us to walk in the strength and joy of becoming more like Jesus. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. What kind of impact is your life leaving on others? Every disciple of Jesus is called to grow in leadership—not just those with formal titles, but anyone who takes responsibility for the good of others. Leadership in God’s kingdom is never about power or self-promotion; it’s about serving. If a leader brings about change, then more leaders can bring about more change. Jesus redefined leadership when He said, “The Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” To lead like Jesus is to see the needs around us and lay aside our preferences so that others can flourish in Him. If we’re going to turn the Bay Area of Houston upside down, then we as a people need to be ready to be sent into the places God calls us. Whether in parenting, in the workplace, or in everyday relationships, leadership is part of our calling. The real question is—are we leading for ourselves, or for the sake of others, like Jesus did? And are we willing to put our “yes” on the table when He calls? You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. The Path of Life

The Path of Life

2025-08-2439:23

Life presents us with many paths, but not all of them lead to life. David shows us in Psalm 16 that confidence, joy, and lasting satisfaction are only found in God. We often run after “functional gods” like career, romance, money, or approval, but they multiply sorrow instead of bringing peace. The narrow path of following Jesus may not always feel comfortable, but it leads to true joy and pleasures that never end. David reminds us that in God’s presence there is fullness of joy, and that apart from Him we have no good thing. He speaks truth to his soul, declaring the Lord as his refuge, portion, and treasure. As we fast, we echo David’s cry: nothing I desire besides You, Lord. Fasting becomes a way to tune our hearts back to Him, a holy homesickness for the One in whose presence we find life forevermore. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. Whose authority are you living under? When confronted with a politically charged trap, Jesus shows Himself to be the wisest person on earth. The Pharisees and Herodians, enemies who unite only because they hate Him more, try to corner Him with a question about taxes. But Jesus doesn’t take the bait. Instead, He exposes the deeper issue—our rebellion against God. “Why put Me to the test?” He asks, cutting straight to the heart. His answer, “Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s,” challenges our view of ownership and authority. Taxes may belong to Caesar, but our very lives belong to God. To render to Him is not to pay from what we think is ours, but to surrender what has always been His. This call feels costly, but it comes from the One who gave up His own riches, stepped down into poverty, and bore the cost of our rebellion so we could be made rich in Him. The real question is not whose authority Jesus affirms—but whether we have surrendered ourselves fully to God.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. How does Jesus heal us from rejection? By taking it onto Himself so it can no longer define us. From His hometown to His closest followers, Jesus knew what it was to be rejected. In the moment with Jairus and the bleeding woman, He steps toward the outcast, takes her uncleanness onto Himself, and gives her His wholeness. It’s a preview of the cross—where He bore the ultimate rejection from God so that we could be fully accepted by God. He was cast out so we could be brought in. He was denied so we could be called “daughter” and “son.” Through His death and resurrection, He gives us a new identity that can’t be lost, even when human rejection comes again. Because of Jesus, we don’t have to live under the weight of being left out or looked down on—we can reject rejection, resting secure in the unshakable acceptance of our Father. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10:30am CST every Sunday morning. When Jesus comes with authority, does your heart welcome Him or push back? Jesus tells a parable about a vineyard, unfaithful tenants, and a rejected son—a clear rebuke of the religious leaders who continually resisted God’s messengers. Drawing from Isaiah’s vineyard prophecy, Jesus reveals God’s long-suffering patience toward His people despite their repeated rejection. But when the Son arrives, they don’t just ignore Him—they scheme to remove Him and take control. This isn’t just about ancient Israel; it’s a window into every human heart that resists God’s authority. We want to be in charge. But to come to Jesus is to surrender—to receive Him not only as Savior, but as King. God holds leaders accountable, yes—but He also calls each of us to live with humility, faithfulness, and a willingness to let go of control. The rejected Son has become the Cornerstone—and He alone is worthy to lead our lives. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Jesus is King—and He’s not just building a new way forward, He’s dismantling what’s broken. As He passes the fig tree and speaks of moving mountains, He’s not offering a blank check for our desires; He’s declaring judgment on a religious system that had lost its way. This passage has often been misunderstood, fueling teachings that twist faith into a formula for getting what we want. But Jesus wasn’t pointing to name-it-and-claim-it faith—He was revealing the kind of faith that trusts God’s will, stands on His Word, and rests in His grace. He’s calling His followers into a new kind of prayer life: rooted in humility, sustained by grace, and marked by forgiveness. True faith doesn’t manipulate God—it submits to Him. As we align our hearts with His, we become people who pray boldly, trust deeply, and interpret Scripture with care, anchoring ourselves in His character and His kingdom. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Sometimes the Jesus we want isn’t the Jesus we get. As Jesus begins His journey to the cross, He reveals His true identity—and it demands a response. The crowds shout “Hosanna,” hoping for the kind of king they expected. But Jesus came not just to save, but to rule. His Lordship means dethroning ourselves and surrendering fully to Him. From the fig tree that appeared alive but bore no fruit, to the temple He cleared with righteous authority, Jesus exposes spiritual hypocrisy and calls us to full submission. He is King, Judge, and Lord of all—and when we welcome Him in, He comes with authority, ready to purify our hearts and realign our lives with His mission and His ways. That purification may bring disruption, but it’s a holy disruption—a reordering of our lives under His rule. It challenges us to ask: does Jesus have access to every area of our lives—our time, our resources, our giftings—or are we still holding the reins? You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. When was the last time you cried out to Jesus with everything you had? Bartimaeus was a blind beggar—overlooked, desperate, and clinging to hope. Day after day, he sat by the road, listening to stories about a man named Jesus—stories of healing, of power, of mercy. And then one day, Jesus passed by. In that moment, Bartimaeus didn’t hold back. He cried out with everything he had: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! Even when others tried to silence him, he refused to stay quiet. And Jesus stopped. He saw him, called him close, and healed him. But the story didn’t end there—Bartimaeus didn’t just receive his sight. He chose to follow Jesus from that day forward. Why do we seek God’s power in our lives? Is it just to feel better, fix a problem, or move on? Or is it so we can truly follow Him? Jesus is still opening blind eyes—helping us see Him as the treasure we’ve been longing for all along. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. Jesus invites us to see that following Him means following Him to the cross. He doesn’t just call us to believe in what He did—He wants us to be shaped by it. Jesus came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many. That means we have to first receive the reality that He gave His life to rescue us from sin and from the empty, self-focused ways we used to live. But it doesn’t stop there—ransomed people live differently. We don’t cling to status or success. We don’t demand to be served. We follow the example of Jesus and live to serve others. In a world that pushes ambition and self-fulfillment, Jesus calls us to something better: a life of purpose, freedom, and love, shaped by the cross. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. This week, we looked at the story of the rich young ruler in Mark 10—a man who had everything, but walked away sad when Jesus asked for the one thing he wouldn’t surrender. Jesus, from His heart of genuine love towards us, exposes the things that we cling to (idols and self-reliance), so that we can cling to Him instead! Eternal life is a gift to be received, not a status to be earned. To receive it, we must surrender all of ourselves to Jesus. Jesus invites all of us to experience true life with Him that is far better than anything we try to hold onto in this world. You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning. How do we know if we are true disciples of Jesus? How do we know if we have truly repented and believed in the gospel? This week, Chris Nagel brought us back to our Mark series, looking at chapter 9 where Jesus teaches about the heart of a true disciple. True disciples seek true greatness in God’s eyes, not the appearance of greatness. True disciples are much more concerned about their own allegiance to Jesus than about policing everyone else’s. And true disciples are not casual about sin, but fight sin ruthlessly in their lives. Jesus’ words and warnings in this passage help us see the true state of our own hearts so that we can repent and realign our lives with Him.You can join our OneLife Sunday morning gatherings via livestream at 8:45am and 10;30am CST every Sunday morning.
