Fazia anos que não nos víamos e, sinceramente, preferia continuar assim. Ele me encontrou pelo Facebook. Perguntou como eu estava e, não sei como, a conversa foi parar num convite que eu fiz para ele me visitar. Não sei onde que eu estava com a cabeça quando fui convidá-lo. Minha esposa ficou feliz, mas ela não fica em casa, então mal conversou com o irmão. Meu cunhado, que se chama Júlio, chegou e se acomodou. Tomou o meu quarto, chutou meu gato, comeu minha comida... quando eu estava assistindo televisão, ele tomou o controle remoto de minha mão e mudou de canal. O folgado ainda colocou os pés em cima do sofá. Sei que não se deve falar pelas costas dos outros, mas o Júlio é uma exceção. Também falo na cara dele, mas não adianta de nada. Ele não se importa. Quando ele foi embora – graças a deus, foi rápido – fui limpar a casa – que ele deixou uma bagunça. Ele espatifou tudo no meu quarto. Depois me dei conta de que ele tinha levado roupas minhas. No começo, fiquei boquiaberto, sem acreditar, mas depois que a ficha caiu, eu tive um ataque de raiva. Será o Benedito! Agora, quando ele falar comigo de novo, vou fingir que não vi. Não quero esse filho da mãe na minha casa nem pintado de ouro.

Adoro comer fora. Seja para o almoço ou jantar, comer fora é uma de minhas atividades prediletas. Posso rever os amigos, conhecer novos tipos de cozinha e vivenciar experiências... e a melhor experiência que tive recentemente foi num restaurante chamado La Calle, que fica na orla de Salvador. Assim que entrei, fui recebido por uma atendente. “Mesa para quantos, senhor?” Respondi que éramos apenas três pessoas. Depois ela disse: por aqui, por gentileza. Nós a seguimos até a mesa. Daí então ela nos deu um cardápio a cada um. Logo ela se retirou, mas antes avisou que seríamos atendidos por um garçomrapidinho. Ficamos olhando o menu. Eu estava curto de grana, então escolhi o prato pela coluna dos preços. Já minha amiga e seu namorado pegaram um prato chique e caro. O garçom chegou, e nós fizemos nosso pedido. Depois de anotar tudo o que queríamos, o garçom perguntou se íamos querer uma água ou vinho como aperitivo. Respondi que preferia aguardar os pratos, já que não era fã de beber antes de comer, mas meus amigos pediram vinho. Estávamos sentados perto da janela. Eu podia ver carros passando na pista. Mais à frente, havia o mar. Era uma vista linda. Já dentro do restaurante, avistei um conhecido que estava do outro lado do recinto. Eu fiz sinal, mas ele estava muito entretido com sua lagosta. Hmmm... adoro lagosta. Talvez eu devesse dar uma palavrinha com ele, pensei. Revia o amigo e, de quebra, poderia provar daquele prato caríssimo. >>> Shall we meet? Full Script: Agora que estão chegando as festas, todo o mundo quer gastar o dinheiro que foi ganho com tanto suor ao longo do ano. Também, com tanta promoção e condições de pagamento pra lá de generosas, quem não quer comprar um sofazinho ou uma televisãozinha, né? Bem, não a minha esposa. Já eu, adoro comprar, gastar dinheiro, porque se eu trabalho, é porque quero consumir. Minha esposa sempre economiza onde pode. Se sentir fome, ela prefere esperar até chegar em casa. “Em casa, como muito melhor e gasto menos da metade do que gastaria num restaurante meia-boca.” Se quiser comprar roupa, ela espera pela época das liquidações, em fevereiro. Nunca adquiremais que cinco peças por vez, e nunca divide nada no cartão. Uma vez, precisamos comprar um sofá novo. O sofá antigo ficou inutilizável, porque o gato o arranhou todo. Isso aconteceu em setembro. Ela disse que não ia se endividar agora, porque o fim de ano estava aí, e tudo ia dobrar de preço. “E o que fazemos até lá?”, perguntei. “Usamos as cadeiras da cozinha como quebra-galho,” ela respondeu. “Como é que é?” O problema é que as cadeiras da cozinha eram duras como pedra. Eu ficava sentado quinze minutos e já estava todo quebrado, com dores nas costas e desconforto geral. “É só por enquanto”, ela disse. Mas eu fiz ouvido de mercador. Sem que ela soubesse, fui até a loja de móveis e passei um sofá em dez vezes no cartão... foi muito dinheiro, mas pelo menos não tinha juros. Quando minha esposa chegou em casa, ela me olhou torto e perguntou. “Onde você conseguiu esse sofá?” Eu respondi que tinha comprado. Monologue Transcript: Vou contar para você de uma vez que combinei de sair com uns amigos. Somos amigos desde os tempos de escola. Éramos uma turma grande, mas com o tempo as pessoas foram arranjando empregos, assumindo responsabilidades, de modo que, depois de quase 20 anos, ninguém mais se vê. Então fiquei muito feliz com a perspectiva de reencontrar meus velhos amigos e amigas. Ficamos de ir a um restaurante não muito chique, mas também não muito furreca, localizado perto da minha casa. Tenho sorte de morar numa região central; do contrário, ia precisar andar muito. De todos os amigos que combinaram de ir, apenas cinco compareceram, incluindo eu. Nós nos sentamos ao redor da mesa, pedimos uma abrideira, e começamos a colocar a conversa em dia. Um dos nossos amigos, o Paulo, começou a pedir mais comida. Primeiro, bolinhos de bacalhau. Depois um prato de escondidinho. E depois ele comeu tanto e percebi por que é que ele estava um pouco acima do peso. Foi uma conversa muito agradável, mas na hora de pedir a conta, ficou o maior climão. Quem é que ia pagar a conta? Ficou acertado que cada um pagava sua parte e não se discutia mais. Tudo bem, combinado ficou, mas teve um probleminha. O Paulo bateu nos bolsos e disse: “ih, me esqueci a carteira em casa... Será que dava pra me emprestar uns trocados aí, que depois eu transfiro pra sua conta.” Bom, ele disse isso olhando nos meus olhos e eu fiquei pensando. Não tem problema, o Paulinho só esqueceu a carteira. Eu emprestei o dinheiro e me esqueci do fato, mas quando recebi a fatura do cartão, telefonei para o Paulo. Era muito dinheiro. O Paulo não está atendendo as minhas ligações. Minha tia Paula é um pouco doidinha. Ela gosta de fazer uns barulhos esquisitos com a boca quando conta uma história, e na maior parte do tempo fala sozinha. Meu pai diz que a tia Paula foi, é e sempre vai ser a ovelha negra da família. Sempre se vestia muito mal, falava o que não devia, comia o que não podia e comprava o que não pagava... um verdadeiro problema de saias. Nunca pensei assim, muito pelo contrário: acho que tia Paula é o máximo. Ela não é tão careta como os meus pais. De vez em quando ela dá as caras sem avisar. E se ela vier para passar um fim de semana, então, é um deus-nos-acuda. Minha mãe não sabe o que preparar para o almoço, meu pai não sabe onde colocar minha tia, e meus irmãos todos saem de casa. Agora minha tia disse que vem passar uma semana inteira, está de férias. Minha mãe foi logo preparando a vassoura. Meu pai não acredita nessas besteiras, mas a mãe, sim. Sou de Fortaleza, mas fui criado em Maracanaú, uma cidade perto de Fortaleza. Sou o caçula de quatro irmãos. Somos três irmãos e uma irmã. Como sou o caçula, meus pais me mimaram muito, mas não sou um menino mimado não. Nossa família era típica – com seis pessoas, não éramos nem a maior nem a menor. Morávamos numa boa vizinhança, tranquila e pequena, e posso dizer que tive uma infância feliz ali. Meus pais nunca foram cheios da grana, mas pelo menos ninguém passou fome quando eu era criança. Estudei em várias escolas públicas da região, desde o jardim de infância, passando pelo ensino fundamental e depois o médio – mas o ensino médio foi mais complicado, porque a escola ficava longe. Depois do ensino médio, fui trabalhar, como a maioria dos meus amigos. Passei por algumas empresas e só vim começar a estudar na universidade sete anos mais tarde. No começo, a faculdade era difícil, mas com o tempo fui pegando o jeito. Consegui me virar durante o curso, mas ainda não concluí tudo 100%, porque me mudei para outra cidade. Comecei a ensinar inglês e depois português, e agora estou me preparando para entrar para o mestrado depois de concluir a graduação. Hoje trabalho e estudo. Não é fácil, mas é o jeito.

Tem um ditado velho que diz que o Brasil é um país ótimo, o problema são os brasileiros. E, sinceramente, quando escuto esse tipo de dizer, não sei se concordo ou discordo, pois nunca faço ideia do lado em que estou da equação. Outro dia estava fazendo compras. Era perto do fim de ano e já estava aporrinhado com tanta gente na rua. Chegando a uma sapataria, visto que comprar sapatos é algo que faço todos os anos, abordei uma atendente. Na mesma hora em que eu disse “bom dia”, ela bufou, aborrecida. Dali em diante a coisa já tinha azedado, e saí de lá sem comprar nada. Aí tem gente que não quer que se generalize, mas, no geral, eu tiro os outros por mim, e mesmo nos dias em que acordo de ovo virado tendo a ser pelo menos cordial. E veja que maus exemplos não me faltam. Já aconteceu, por exemplo, de eu estar dirigindo na BR e um filho da mãe querer fazer a ultrapassagem a qualquer custo. Eu estava dando passagem, fiz sinal para a pessoa seguir e, mesmo assim, o infeliz tentou me dar uma cortada. Depois, ainda fez sinal para eu encostar. Encostar? Eu, hein? Eu é que não ia dar mole para um otário daqueles. Soube de gente que se exaltava numa briga de trânsito e acabava no IML. Não vou mentir: eu me esquentei naquela situação, mas todo bom brasileiro sabe exatamente onde é que o sapato aperta. E aí já temos duas grandes reclamações dos brasileiros para com os próprios brasileiros: somos malucos no trânsito e mal-educados no trato com os outros. Mas sabe de uma coisa? Uma vez viajei para o estrangeiro. Não vou te dizer qual é o país, porque nem sei se importa. O que sei é que, no aeroporto, vi um senhor no alto de seus 70 anos se melindrar com uma aeromoça porque ela lhe pediu que ficasse na droga da fila. Ele falava, e eu entendia, que era uma pessoa importante e que não compreendia por que tinha que ficar esperando naquela fila com a gentinha. Depois, ainda tentou puxar conversa com um e outro da fila, mas, sabendo da índole do velhote, ninguém lhe deu a mínima. E eu cheguei à conclusão: o mundo é ótimo e o inferno são os outros.

Na véspera do casamento, Roberto recebeu a última coisa que faltava para o grande dia: os bem-casados, que eram as lembrancinhas que seriam entregues aos convidados. Aquele seria um dia incrível. A noiva estaria de véu e grinalda, ele todo bem arrumado, todos felizes e ansiosos para a festa após a cerimônia. Mas só faltava outra coisinha. Pegar os sogros no aeroporto. Quando foi dar a partida no carro, Roberto teve uma surpresa desagradável. Foi quando ele descobriu que o veículo tinha dado o prego. Nenhum sinal de vida. Tudo bem que aquele carro era rodado como o quê. Mas será que precisava ser justo no grande dia? Com os sogros chegando de outro estado, ele precisava pensar rápido. Até cogitou chamar um Uber, mas os sogros não gostariam da impessoalidade. Além disso, eles provavelmente iriam querer rodar na cidade, e não dá para pegar Uber para lá e para cá. Então, Roberto pensou: “alugar um carro é a saída mais à mão”. Foi aí que começou a confusão. Primeiro: o seguro. Eram muitas opções. Seguro contra furto e roubo, contra batida, contra desastres naturais, contra terceiros, e ainda tinha a quilometragem livre e controlada. Tudo parecia importante, mas custava uma fortuna. E com o tanto que ele gastou no casamento, estava precisando apertar os cintos um pouco. E era para andar só na cidade, o que poderia dar errado? Como Roberto posteriormente descobriu, muita coisa pode dar errado num percurso de trinta minutos. A retirada do carro foi um show à parte. A atendente repetia sempre a mesma ladainha: “isso não está incluso, senhor”. Tinha taxa para tudo. E o valor que Roberto teve de depositar para a caução era quase a parcela de um carro novo. E o modelo prometido no site sumiu. No lugar, veio um carro tão compacto que parecia de brinquedo. Roberto entrou, se ajeitou e pensou: “Respira. Está tudo certo.” Só que não estava. Porque na volta, tentando estacionar numa vaga meio desajeitada, ele deu aquela raspada na lateral. Nada de outro mundo, mas suficiente para fazer o sangue gelar. “Será que o seguro cobre mossa?” Roberto pegou uma opção tão barata que não lembrava mais das coberturas. Mas uma coisa ele sabia: o seguro barato tinha uma franquia bem salgada. Desesperado, achou que ia ter de economizar na lua-de-mel, já que o casamento estava todo pago. Ia ser uma desgraça. Roberto ficou tão para lá que recebeu os sogros com uma cara que os preocupou. “Tá tudo bem, Roberto?” perguntou sua sogra. Então Roberto decidiu abrir o jogo. Quando contou para os sogros, esperava um sermão e muito chororô, mas o sogro só disse: “Ah, isso acontece, Roberto. Relaxa.” E foi como se uma bolha estourasse. “Isso acontece.” Roberto ia se ver com a franquia do aluguel. É... “acontece”. E o casamento? Ah, esse ainda nem tinha começado.

E meus pais sempre me faziam jogar futebol todos os dias. E quando não era futebol, era basquete, beisebol ou outro esporte com alguma bola. Assim, mantive o peso sob controle.Mas o tempo passou e a gente se acomodou. Fiz faculdade de Direito e de lá saí direto para uma cadeira de escritório. E da cadeira de escritório saía para a cadeira dos restaurantes aonde levava a minha então namorada e atual esposa.Trocando em miúdos, com uma vida sedentária, o peso voltou com tudo. Os louros do passado foram todos perdidos.Minha esposa sempre foi compreensiva, mas dava uma alfinetada aqui e ali comentando o meu peso. “Vamos pelo elevador porque o Luiz não tem fôlego para as escadas.” “Tem como ir de carro? Porque o Luiz vai suar a camisa e não é trabalhando.”Sei que ela não fazia isso por mal, mas sentia uma pontada de raiva quando ela jogava o meu peso na minha cara. Porém, decidi usar essa raiva para dar a volta por cima. Como sempre fiz algum esporte, podia retomar o hábito. E como lá no escritório um dos associados jogava golfe, pensei em jogar com ele.Mas passei tanto tempo sedentário que pensei estar assinando a minha derrocada quando assinei a minha matrícula.Comprei toda a parafernália de golfe, incluindo um bonezinho que disseram que ia me deixar a cara do Tiger Woods. Agora, com as devidas vestimentas, entrei em campo para minha primeira aula. No campo, o treinador me perscrutou. Então ele me mostrou como era um swing grande e um swing pequeno e disse que íamos começar com o pequeno.Agora deu. Eu podia estar alguns anos longe dos esportes, mas sabia que ainda era capaz. Eu dava conta do recado.Levantei o taco e joguei meu peso com toda força para dar uma tacada daquelas num swing grande. Mas o taco passou direto, acabei perdendo o equilíbrio e, de uma pirueta, caí no chão.No chão, foi que me apercebi de que meu corpo estava um pouco mais pesado do que estava antes. Mas o mico foi ainda maior. Quando me levantei do chão e tirei a poeira dos ombros, vi o chefe de um escritório concorrente. Ele deu um sorrisinho maroto e comentou:— Eita, colega. Ainda bem que do chão não passa, né? Mas é assim mesmo. Quem tá começando sempre quebra a cara. Eu entendi a indireta... e senti uma raiva crescer em mim.Mas aí pensei na minha esposa e nos comentários dela e no fato de sempre terem duvidado da minhas capacidades e senti uma vontade tão grande de me vingar. Engoli o choro e bolei um plano.Pedi ao treinador para me mostrar de novo como fazer o swing pequeno e prestei atenção. Quando chegou a minha vez, dei uma tacada com o mesmo cuidado que ele teve e lá se foi a bola voando e voando e desaparecendo no horizonte.Agora sim.Desde aquele dia, tenho praticado com o treinador todos os dias na hora do almoço. Como pulo o almoço e fico caminhando para cima e para baixo no campo, perdi uns bons 40 Kg e já estou me preparando para competir no primeiro torneio neste fim de semana.E sabendo que um dos favoritos é aquele concorrente que riu de mim, quando eu ganhar vou fazê-lo engolir a taça.A vingança é um prato que se come frio.
