Welcome to the Stealing from Wizards podcast. This is the free audiobook version of the children’s fantasy novel, Stealing from Wizards Volume 1. It’s a story of magic, mystery, theft, and friendship set at a school for young witches and wizards in the magical fairy lands of Canada.
Chapter one joins our protagonist as he struggles to survive in the poorest of places in the magical lands, Detritus lane.
Meet Phineas Hearn, the man that made Kuro into the thief he is.
This week we learn more about how Kuro has come to be in his desperate situation, and how even when it seems you’ve hit rock bottom, there’s always farther to fall. Also, how a small act of kindness can sometimes change someone’s world.
Living in the magical world, surrounded by wizards, elves, and fairies, doesn’t make life alone on the streets any easier. However, small victories are worth celebrating, and a good place to hide, a kindly ghost, and a furry friend can make all the difference in the world when your greatest hope is surviving till tomorrow.
Of students, hounds, lightning, and loyalty.
No good deed goes unpunished, and a kind heart is a fatal weakness. These were lessons taught to Kuro from his first moments, but even so they failed to sink in.
A single, foolhardy act of loyalty turns Kuro’s life upside down and lands him in the hands of one of the most dangerous wizard hunters in the four kingdoms.
Something that both children and imprisoned criminals have in common is that they are given little choice as to how or where they spend their time.
Kuro, being both, has even less say in the matter. He is trapped, helpless and hopeless, watching adults decide his future for him. At least he is well fed.
Sometimes you get to choose your friends, sometimes they choose you, and sometimes it’s just down to who happens to sit next to you on the boat to your first day of school.
Friends and enemies are made as Kuro takes the long ride across the water to Avalon Island, home of the school that will be his home and prison for the next ten months.
Kuro arrives at Avalon Academy, school of magic, and prison for the young thief. What fresh horrors await him in the confines of the strange island, surrounded by the unfriendly youth of the magical world?
An extra long episode for the holidays.
The first day of school is always met with a mix of anticipation and dread. For Kuro, the latter is well earned. He is being thrown into the deep end, head first, and there are sharks circling.
Nobody is ever prepared for the reality of school, and Kuro is worse off than most. Classes start off at a run and our hero hasn't even laced his shoes.
The promise of a festival and a feast is delayed by a visit from a member of the Royal Guard and an involuntary run through the autumn leaves.
Kuro finds that his lack of magical talent extends farther than he knew, and has unexpected consequences that horrify his class.
Detention doesn't have the expected effect on someone who has spent their life as a servant to a tyrant. Mr. Flint, though, thinks he is up to the challenge.
While most of the school leaves for the holidays, Kuro remains behind. However, he fails to find peace even on a nearly empty island.
Kuro gets his first ever solstice presents, and there are more surprises than he would have ever wished for.
As the year draws to a close Kuro attends his firs ever feast, though it's not anything he could have expected.
Arthur and Marie return from the holidays, but so do the rest of the students. Kuro's brief peace is lost, and new truths are revealed.
Kuro is all but invisible to his alchemy teacher, but being ignored isn't all bad. Sometimes a little negligence can go a long way.
A clever plan finally comes to fruition. Could things finally be turning around for Kuro?
