Description

Although I am a female this is not a podcast dedicated to women in cricket. This is a podcast dedicated to share the stories of those who have worked hard in cricket and have made a difference in some way.
The purpose of this podcast was to educate myself on all things cricket and learn from coaches, players and those within the sport. To me, it is more important to showcase those that are doing work behind the scenes and those who have played/coached at the highest level but don't get the recognition that the modern day players are getting now days.

As a women who plays, coaches and works within the sport, it is only natural that I am passionate about women's cricket. So there is an element of that in the podcast. It is important to me to highlight that woman's cricket is not a "new" sport and in fact it has been played for over 100 years in Australia. So to highlight this in some of my interviews and to talk to and about the amazing females to play and coach the game is very important to me.

This is a passion project for me where I aim to learn as much as I can about the sport and about the different journeys people have taken within cricket. I have had so much fun creating these episodes for you and I hope you get something out of them just like I have.

In 2019 I was very lucky to be in the same Study tour as Sean which is where we first formally met. Although we were in Spain for uni, we spent most of the time talking cricket so obviously I asked him to join me on the podcast.   We recorded this episode at the end of November 2020, so at the time you are hearing this, some of these events will be current or have passed. Sean has now taken up a new role as Victoria's new racing integrity commissioner.

Going from someone who never had anything to do with cricket, to helping me open and run a cricket training facility. My mum has supported me throughout my journey in cricket.  The story of Cutting Edge Cricket is a very unique one and one very special to us, we go through the conception of the idea to how we got the facility up and running and talk about some of the things we have done along the way.  Also, perfect timing in recording this episode: the day we recorded this, Cricket Victoria announced that we won the "Indoor Facility of the Year" award in their "A Sport for All Awards" so naturally we were very excited.

Episode 3 - Jon Hyde

2019-11-1956:45

Jon Hyde was my first rep cricket coach. He has so much passion for growing the game of cricket and supporting female players. As you will hear, he almost fell upon his initial role coaching women and since then he has become a well known figure in women's cricket in the area.  He is life member at Preston CC and Holy Trinity CC, both of which are clubs I am proud to be a member of.  This photo was taken at end of last season. This was the moment we won the semi final after a bit of a shaky batting performance by our team. Jon was pacing around the ground and I was nervously walking with him. When Kelly scored the winning run, Jon and I jumped into each others arms. As it was his last season coaching us, it was a special moment.
Episode 2 - Alex Lewis

Episode 2 - Alex Lewis

2019-11-0543:35

Alex Lewis is one of my biggest supporters. How my first ever cricket coach is still in my life and what he is doing for cricket in our local community. Alex is a level 2 CA accredited coach and head coach of Preston Cricket Club in the VSDCA This photo was taken in my first season of cricket (2008/09), it was the semi final against Preston Bullants. Me and the other opener both made ducks, but we still ended up winning the game and went on to win the grand final. Alex use to give me pep talks the day of or the night before games cause he knew how nervous I was.
This podcast consists of a series of interviews between me and coaches, players and administrators from all different aspects of cricket. I interview those who are making a difference in grass roots cricket in my local community, to those who work in cricket at a national level.  This first episode is an introduction to who I am and how I have become so involved in this great sport. I was interviewed by Jeff Callaway who you will hear more about in a later episode. A bit about me: Managing Director of Cutting Edge Cricket Level 2 CA accredited coach Completed my Bachelor Sport Coaching in 2017 Currently studying Master in Sports Business & Integrity (only one semester to go) Diploma Sport Development Cert III & IV Fitness Cert IV Sport and Recreation   I remember the day this photo was taken: It was in May 2014, I was 19 and we were about to open Cutting Edge Cricket. I was so overwhelmed by what my parents were doing for me and just needed a moment to take it all in. (Also, I was holding my first cricket bat - not important but sentimental)
