THE SONIC BOOMERS

In 1957, a young Black couple named Bill and Daisy Meyers bought a home in Levittown, Pa. They hoped it would be a great place to raise their young and growing family. What followed were months of terror as rocks pierced their front window, neighbors in the back blasted music all night and hundreds rioted outside their home at 43 Deepgreen Lane. This is also the story of two developers: Bill Levitt and built Levittown with a "no Blacks" clause in all contracts and who defied the Supreme Court decision against such clauses Meanwhile California developer Joseph Eichler boldly stepped forward offering to build and sell homes to anyone who had the money..

In the six years we have been in our home, the living room has been redone three times and is now heading to a fourth revision. The problem is balancing our chosen design esthetic and comfort and functionality. Our 1956 constructed home falls into the the "mid century" category but NOT mid century modern which is where we have tried to take the living room.After our third round of changes, we are thinking that the first edition may have been the best and we should have left well enough alone....Should we spend the time and money to go back? Have we lost our minds?Oh the pain of being interior design enthusiasts!!!

As kids prepare to head back to the classroom, The Sonic Boomers invite you to join them for a trip down memory lane remembering the classrooms of their youth in the 1960's. Would they feel strangely out of place in the classroom of today?
