#963 | Dominic and Ed discuss United's sensational 2-0 victory over Manchester City. Led by Michael Carrick, United setup in a smart counter-attacking style. There were impressive performances from key players - Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo, Harry Maguire and Casemiro in particular. It was an emotional win after another chaotic season. In a few short days Carrick has rejuvenated team morale - and that of the fans too. They'll be dancing in the streets of Salford, tonight!
There are challenges ahead though, such as the upcoming game against Arsenal - and Carrick still has to overcome squad depth issues, particularly in midfield. That’s for next week, though. Today was a fantastic victory.

#961 | United were knocked out of the cup by Brighton at Old Trafford. It's going to be a long few months from here. Having been dumped out of the League Cup by Grimsby earlier in the season, and with no European football this season, United will play just 40 games this season. It's the fewest for 111 years. Perhaps that's a mercy. Ed and Dan discuss defeat to Brighton, try to put it in some context and hope that things will get better with an interim managerial appointment.

#952 | Manchester United beat Newcastle 1-0 at Old Trafford and nobody left feeling relaxed. Ed and Dharnish break down an exhausting win defined by one moment of quality and a lot of defensive survival. We talk through Patrick Dorgu’s stunning volley, a first Premier League goal that settled the game early, before Newcastle spent the rest of the afternoon throwing everything at United.
Injuries, makeshift selections, and long spells without the ball forced Ruben Amorim into a far more conservative second-half approach than planned.
There’s analysis of the changes after half-time and the decision to protect the lead rather than chase more goals. We also zoom out to the bigger picture: what this result says about United’s season, Amorim’s risk tolerance, and how January squad questions are becoming harder to avoid.

#950 | Ed and Wayne dissect Manchester United’s defeat away at Aston Villa, a match that briefly suggested progress before unraveling in depressingly familiar fashion. A strong first half gave way to defensive errors, mounting absences, and an untimely injury to Bruno Fernandes, leaving Ruben Amorim staring at another damaging afternoon.
They assess what United did well, where the team failed, and how much responsibility sits with execution versus selection. The discussion turns to injuries and squad depth, the ongoing reliance on youth, and whether Amorim’s decision-making shows conviction or caution.
With a difficult run of fixtures ahead, the key question hangs over the episode: does Amorim respond by doubling down on control and safety, or does he finally take the risks this squad appears to demand?

#949 | Ed and Tom take stock of where Manchester United really are, amid fitness problems that refuse to clear and tactical compromises that keep piling up. They break down recent performances against Everton and Bournemouth, questioning selection calls, structure, and how much latitude the manager still has to solve problems internally.
The conversation widens to youth development and club culture, pushing back on lazy media narratives around players like Kobbie Mainoo and the credibility of the latest transfer chatter, including links to Antoine Semenyo. There’s also a deep dive into Bruno Fernandes’ recent interview, what it reveals, and what it doesn’t.

#948 | Ed and Dan react to a breathless, chaotic 4–4 draw that managed to be both exhilarating and deeply exposing. They break down United’s aggressive pressing, fluid attacking movement, and how the side functioned without a recognised striker, while also confronting the defensive fragility that turned control into volatility.
The discussion moves through tactical trade-offs, shape-shifting between a back three and a back four, and the consequences of those choices under pressure. Individual performances are assessed in detail, including Amad’s influence, Bruno Fernandes’ authority, and Casemiro’s role. There’s also scrutiny of managerial decisions, the impact of Afcon, and what this match says about the limits of flexibility versus structure.
The episode closes by looking ahead to Aston Villa, weighing likely selections, priorities, and how much adjustment this squad can realistically absorb.

#947 | Ed and Dharnish reflect on United’s recent run, using the games against West Ham and Wolves as a lens to assess where Ruben Amorim’s side is making progress and where problems persist. They dig into tactical patterns, selection decisions, and how absences for AFCON are exposing the limits of the squad.
The conversation broadens into the issues shaping United’s season – financial constraints, January options that look more theoretical than realistic, and the ongoing tension between short-term fixes and long-term planning. There’s also a discussion on the club’s relationship with its academy, why pathway matters culturally as well as competitively, and what it says about United when young players are trusted – or overlooked.
The episode also covers the women’s team’s recent struggles, a positive note from the Youth Cup win over Peterborough, and the emergence of JJ Gabriel as a player to watch. The show closes with a look ahead to Bournemouth and growing concerns about depth as the calendar tightens.

awful. negative. The system obsession is ridiculous. lost a listener. bye
Awful negativity. Just won a football game and the Guardian writer decides to go in on Amorim's tactics.
Thanks for the great show. Is there something wrong with my Patreon? This episode didn't turn up.
Adverts....
Negative. Downbeat. Kinda wack.
Shite
Really enjoying the content and tone. The politics is context and I think it's absolutely necessary. Thank you for the regularity too.
The show has descended into a bi weekly lecture on intersectionality and general woke bullshit.. Ed and Paul used to have an everyday fan point of view for years but the last few seasons they have decided to virtual signal the shit out of a once great podcast while infantilizing black and female players..
When do you think Ed and Paul will figure out that people who subscribe to a Manchester United podcast don't want to hear about politics? Otherwise we would just subscribe to a political podcast?
I've been listening to NQAT or what I know as The Rant Cast on and off for over a decade now. The chat about United is mostly good and informative, however the divergence in to politics has increased as the years have gone on. The typical labels of calling anyone who challenges Ed and Paul's views as racist, sexist, bigots, to name but a few have become tiresome over time. In the latest pod there was a sizeable amount of time spent talking politics over previewing the Manchester Derby.
not suee if you read these comments but you will lose a listener if you keep your Shaw agenda
very obvious agenda against Shaw which is so poor of you. clearly our whole team is suffering ever since his injury and you are trying to target him as a weak link. it must be personal as otherwise you don't really know football...
I was at this one...amazing 2nd half, in those days we believed anything was possible.
If these two stuck to football instead of speaking of American politics then this will be a much better podcast.
love the show
When they discuss United it's a quality listen, but too often Ed wants to be divisive and always go on about how some fans are idiots, racists, bigots. etc etc.... If it happened once then it wouldn't be a problem, but Ed is probably one of the worst hosts I've ever listened too. Paul is quality and often looks for the good in situations.
'bout effing time
