#940 | Jamie and Ed break down the Premier League’s newly approved financial regulations - rules that will reshape how every club spends, invests, and strategises. They outline the new financial framework, focusing on the Squad Cost Ratio and how it caps total spending on wages, amortisation, and agents' fees relative to club revenue.
Jamie explains how these changes mirror UEFA’s own rules and why the league is pivoting toward a more standardised, long-term model of financial control. The pair explore what this means specifically for Manchester United - from wage-bill management and transfer flexibility to projected revenues, the need for player trading, and the club’s ability to refresh the squad under new constraints.
There’s discussion of potential loopholes, how clubs may attempt to game the system, and what enforcement could look like as the Premier League attempts to restore credibility. The episode wraps with a look at United’s structural changes, including the arrival of a new head of senior scouting.

#939 | Ed and Dharnish pick through United’s grim defeat to Everton - a game so flat it barely needs a post-mortem, yet somehow delivered enough misery to fill one.
They break down Rúben Amorim’s setup, from the malfunctioning wing-backs to a midfield that never got a grip, and a front line that looked like it had forgotten what chance creation even is. The pair analyse United’s inability to punish Everton after the red card, a recurring theme under Amorim: lots of possession, fewer ideas.
There’s a look at the goal conceded, the structural issues behind it, and why United are still so bad at breaking down a low block. The episode also gets into individual performances, tactical stubbornness, squad limitations, and what this defeat means heading into Palace - plus how January might be the club’s only lifeline.

#938 | Ed and Isabel sift through the international break - an actual competitive one, for a change, instead of the usual collection of meaningless jog-arounds. There’s chat about who impressed - such as Scott McTominay’s Scotland heroics, Bruno stat-padding for fun, and a few others looked vaguely competent for their countries. The mood dips with a look at United Women, who’ve hit a bump in recent games, raising familiar questions about depth, investment, and the club’s mixedpriorities.
Ed and Isabel dig into Steven Torpey's academy comments, the gap between pipeline and first team, and why the idea of giving young players a chance at United feels more theoretical right now. There’s also a look at Rúben Amorim’s tweaks - signs of progress, signs of stubbornness, and the sense that the January window might be held together by crossed fingers.
The pod closes with an Everton preview: a winnable match that has to go United's way given that European qualification isn’t optional; it’s the minimum.

#937 | Ed and Wayne Barton try to stay warm, awake, and vaguely optimistic. There’s chat about winter routines, sleepless nights, and how United fans could probably use a nap themselves after the latest couple of matches.
Wayne talks about his new book Manchester United: After Munich - an emotional deep dive into the club’s recovery years, the players who carried the torch, and the scars that never quite healed. From there, it’s onto a far brighter story: Manchester United Women beating PSG in the Champions League, a result that feels like a genuine milestone.
Then it’s time to talk about the men’s team - and some familiar issues. The lads discuss January transfer gossip, squad issues, and the board’s plans.
The mailbag brings discussion about Casemiro’s value, the striker shortage, seat-license panic, and the notion of “Project 2028.”

#936 | Another 2–2. Another week of mixed feelings. In this episode Ed and Daniel pick apart Manchester United’s draw with Spurs - a game that summed up everything both encouraging and exasperating about Rúben Amorim’s side.
The pair dig into team selection and the curious decision to field two fullbacks as wingbacks, a move that left United solid but sterile. There’s frustration at missed opportunities, defensive lapses, and another late switch that came just a little too late. Daniel vents about United’s risk-averse mentality; Ed wonders if the problem’s less system and more psyche.
The conversation widens to possible January fixes, especially at wing-back which is proving to be an ongoing problem.

#934 | Ed and Dominic are back to pick through the debris — literal and metaphorical. From wild weather to the storm clouds still hovering over Manchester United, there’s plenty to talk about ahead of the trip to Spurs.
The pair dig into United’s recent run under Rúben Amorim, what’s clicking, what’s not, and how the side might line up against Thomas Frank's Tottenham. There’s chat about Wayne Rooney’s latest foray into punditry (and his minor skirmish with Virgil van Dijk), as well as his future on the touchline.
Ed and Dom also unpack Jason Wilcox’s Inside Carrington interview - a rare look inside United’s new football structure — before diving into transfer talk, academy prospects, and how January might reshape the squad. Expect thoughts on Rashford, Højlund, Šeško, and a few names who could be off to AFCON.

#930 | Cunha Believe It: United Hit Four Past Brighton
Ed and Dan team break down United’s 4–2 win over Brighton - one of the most complete attacking performances of the season. They celebrate standout showings from Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Šeško, whose link-up play and pressing intensity set the tone for the victory.
The discussion dives into Amorim’s tactical tweaks, the balance between direct transitions and controlled possession, and how United’s new-look front line is starting to click. There’s also a look at Anthony Taylor’s latest refereeing circus, and what this win means for United’s confidence heading into a packed winter schedule.

Awful negativity. Just won a football game and the Guardian writer decides to go in on Amorim's tactics.
Thanks for the great show. Is there something wrong with my Patreon? This episode didn't turn up.
Adverts....
Negative. Downbeat. Kinda wack.
Shite
Really enjoying the content and tone. The politics is context and I think it's absolutely necessary. Thank you for the regularity too.
The show has descended into a bi weekly lecture on intersectionality and general woke bullshit.. Ed and Paul used to have an everyday fan point of view for years but the last few seasons they have decided to virtual signal the shit out of a once great podcast while infantilizing black and female players..
When do you think Ed and Paul will figure out that people who subscribe to a Manchester United podcast don't want to hear about politics? Otherwise we would just subscribe to a political podcast?
I've been listening to NQAT or what I know as The Rant Cast on and off for over a decade now. The chat about United is mostly good and informative, however the divergence in to politics has increased as the years have gone on. The typical labels of calling anyone who challenges Ed and Paul's views as racist, sexist, bigots, to name but a few have become tiresome over time. In the latest pod there was a sizeable amount of time spent talking politics over previewing the Manchester Derby.
not suee if you read these comments but you will lose a listener if you keep your Shaw agenda
very obvious agenda against Shaw which is so poor of you. clearly our whole team is suffering ever since his injury and you are trying to target him as a weak link. it must be personal as otherwise you don't really know football...
I was at this one...amazing 2nd half, in those days we believed anything was possible.
If these two stuck to football instead of speaking of American politics then this will be a much better podcast.
love the show
When they discuss United it's a quality listen, but too often Ed wants to be divisive and always go on about how some fans are idiots, racists, bigots. etc etc.... If it happened once then it wouldn't be a problem, but Ed is probably one of the worst hosts I've ever listened too. Paul is quality and often looks for the good in situations.
'bout effing time
