Description
Described as feeling like a mix of The Twilight Zone and Tales From The Crypt, The Hidden Archives Podcast is a biweekly horror anthology series. Though all types of horror and science fiction stories are featured - from classic thriller, space, ghost stories, time travel, and monsters of all sorts - many stories have a general feeling that can only be described as ”cerebral.” These are the stories that get you thinking - that trap you inside your own mind and make you ask ”what if?” Come sit down with your regular hosts, the Curators - Nicole and Phillip, as we share with you the tales that can only be found upon the shelves of The Hidden Archives.
53 Episodes
Reverse
In our first story, we introduce you to a man in a seemingly hopeless situation: seemingly at the end - in more ways than one. Feeling like justice has turned her back on him, he has to wrestle with the consequences of circumstances outside of his control. What would you do in a similar situation? How do you cope when it seems like the end is imminent? How does one accept the verdict of a Drumhead Trial?
TW: PTSD, suicidal ideation, extreme bodily harm
And in our previous exploration of the Archives, we ran across an account of a man who was struggling with a stalker of sorts. A chance encounter devolved into a most unfortunate set of circumstances that prompted the character to post in an online forum asking for help. Though we know the totality of his situation up to the point of his initial post, we never found out if there was a resolution. So let’s return to Joe to see if there have been any updates as he tells us a little bit more about My Time With Mary.
TW: PTSD, suicidal ideation, self harm, stalking, harassment

This, and every story, presented by the Hidden Archives is completely fictional. Any resemblance to actual people or events is purely coincidental. But, when it happens, it is somewhat disturbing, pretty cool, and kind of the point (sometimes).
Music: Theme is “Goldberg Variations, BWV 988 – 22 Variatio 21 Canone alla Settima” by J.S. Bach, and the story music is: “Violin Concerto in F minor, RV 297 'Winter' - Complete Concerto" by Antonio Vivaldi for "Drumhead Trial," and "Nocturne in C sharp minor 'Lento con gran espressione', B. 49 (Op. posth.)" by Frederic Chopin as the story music for "My Time With Mary"

Once more we look at the topic of human relationships. It is the nature of people to want to connect with others. We are communal and tribal. As is often the case, we sometimes wish to cultivate deeper bonds with one, or a few, specific individuals. Other times, we wish to establish boundaries and distance ourselves from an individual. But are these feelings and motivations present from the start? Is the chemistry instantaneous? Or do we have to cultivate feelings one way or another? Sometimes, it takes a while. Of course, to truly answer these questions, examples can be helpful, so let me tell you about My Time With Mary.
TW: stalking, domestic violence, mentions of self harm

This episode is a deviation from our normal programming. It is an eulogy - an end of life dedication of sorts - to a few loved ones that have passed away recently. I wrote this account to honor them; Robert O'Neill, Philip Waln, and Larry Reedy.
Though there are no really scary parts to this episode, as it is almost entirely non-fiction, there are some disturbing subjects. TW: addiction and real-life death. If you are okay with these subjects being briefly discussed, I hope that you proceed with the episode as it was written to honor and praise those that have left our world - people who were very dear to me in life. Please enjoy.

You don’t always get to choose your relations in life: it is neither your choice what family you’re born into, nor who you work with. This gamble doesn’t always work out, and is sometimes made especially more tragic because we spend the majority of our days working, and we must grow up with our family - regardless of who they are. That’s why it is important to choose carefully the relationships where choice is an option. You might think I’m talking about “friends” here. But, more specifically, what I mean are those little friends that come from a different species - our pets. Just as with human relations, we have to work and put a serious effort into developing the relationships we have with our pets. So make sure you are sincere with this effort. Otherwise, you risk only being Fair Weather Friends.

When you go through a tough time, you will have people tell you that “it could be worse.” Frequently, the consolation of “worse things have happened to better people” is offered - as if to diminish the gravity of our suffering. But to imply that something could be “worse” is to state that it could be “different.” In tonight’s story, we find out what truly lies behind the facade of a set of circumstances that appear to be “different” than the circumstances that have come before. So pay close attention, and be prepared to take notes, lest you have to go through all of this Again.

We’ve seen it time and again, nearly daily: a solution that has no problem. No, I didn’t mispeak. The world is full of solutions to things that aren’t even problems to begin with. But when you’ve only ever known problems, how could you help but think only of solutions? That is the exact situation our character finds himself in in tonight’s story. He is confronted with a number of small, yet unsolvable, problems for which he seems to find one extraordinary and inexplicable solution. Of course, we know there is a name for this: we know the Latin term is Deus Ex Machina.

When one comes to the end of one chapter in their story, another is sure to follow. In this story book of ours, we are introduced to the plot and play in the chapters of the past, though we dwell in the chapter at present. All this serves to build the anticipation of what is to come. In tonight’s story, we once again hear from our friend Captain Chris as he navigates the perilous skies and circumstances in which he finds himself. How will our cast of characters find their resolve and resolutions, if they do at all? What will happen? What is the plan? These answers can only be found by having Conversations Concerning the Future.

No matter what holiday you celebrate, or what traditions you keep, being away from friends and relations during these times can be difficult. The holiday season is made even more challenging for those that must work away from their home when they would rather be celebrating with family. But sometimes duty calls. And in these times, we can only hope that the work has meaning. For Captain Chris, our character this evening, these are his Present Circumstances.

We all have a job to do. For some people, this is a mantra that they repeat to themselves for their professional life. For others, it is much more personal. But the simple facts remain that work needs to be done, and we all must share in the responsibility. Of course, this means forging relationships to help us accomplish what we need to. But who do we side with? Often, you just have to take a shot, and hope that you have a good ally. In tonight’s short tale, we find out why one person states I Side With The Witness.

It has been said that “the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.” But who determines the quality of anyone’s intentions? Is it purely for us to figure out for ourselves, or do the manifestations of intentions define whether they were good or bad? In tonight’s story, which is related to an earlier story of ours titled “Gather The Pieces,” Dr. Casey Edwards gets a chance to explain his intentions. So let’s be open minded while we listen to him explain why I Won’t Go Back To The Other Side.

Fear is one of the most basic of human instincts. However, it doesn’t do anyone any good to just be afraid. Fear is a driver - something that is supposed to push you into action. Of course, it helps to know the difference between a legitimate fear and an irrational one. That being said, our story tonight can’t discuss every fear, but it can give you a simple warning about one: “Fear Not The Shadow, But That Which Cast It Not.”

Suffering a plane crash is one thing. Being lost in the wilderness is another. But when one thing leads to the next, coupled with thirst, malnutrition, and a lack of cover, things can start to seem hopeless. What drives you at this point? Is it the will to live? Perhaps it's being singularly focused – determined to accomplish a mission of the utmost importance. Or maybe it is a faith in the divine. Whatever the cause, and whatever the driving force, it is hard to deny the difficulties that lie ahead. Simply put, it is no stroll in the park or day at the beach. It just may be A Walk In The Rain.

For many people, the world of our dreams is a welcome escape from the horrors of reality. This means that a condition like insomnia can be a barrier from ending up where we are happy and relaxed. But consider the idea of a condition that is the opposite of insomnia. Consider what happens when your dreams are indistinguishable from reality. Consider what this might mean. Consider the Possibilities.

What is it to be content? How do you frame success? Well, some people use the company they keep as their measuring rod for such things. Of course, this requires genuine companionship. It requires honesty. And it means not holding back when it comes to important issues. So take charge - be the master of your own destiny! But also remember your companions, and consider this: you’re in it together. You might have to rise to the occasion - you might have to be their Surrogate.

Many problems seem simple at first. Like having just the right amount of information can lead you to an easy solution. Especially if you know what that solution should look like. However, such problems are, frequently, more complicated than they first appear. Sometimes, no amount of information, right or wrong, can get you where you need to be. But maybe you’ll be lucky and move past your problems naturally - maybe you’ll even grow out of them. After all, it might be Just A Phase.

Accepting one's fate and then moving on can be challenging, even when we know it is the right thing to do. However, it often helps to have the encouragement of friends or family - just someone to believe in us. It may also put us at ease to know how difficult it may have been for others, only for them to succeed, too. So remember to respect other people and guide them when you can. Especially if your title is that of "The Graveyard Mayor."

Greed and sibling rivalry are two concepts that seem to feed each other. However, when the aspect of greed becomes too overwhelming, it can blind the guilty party to the fact that their rivalry is not with their sibling, but with themselves. Just remember that the other person involved is your brother or sister, and together you are only two elements of a Nuclear Family.
