Some Doctor Who stories become legends because everyone has seen them. The Tomb of the Cybermen became one partly because, for decades, hardly anyone could. So when the long-lost Troughton classic finally busted out of cold storage, could the real thing possibly live up to the myth? Well… mostly. Patrick Troughton is at the height of his powers, the Cybermen have rarely sounded weirder or looked more iconic, and one quiet conversation with Victoria may be among the Second Doctor’s finest moments. Unfortunately, the tomb also contains some things better left buried: logic holes, 1960s sexism, and the deeply uncomfortable treatment of Toberman. Join us as we awaken the Cyber Controller, discover the Cybermen were apparently Banksy all along, and ask the most dangerous question on Telos: does this Doctor Who legend actually deserve its reputation?Give your own rating for The Tomb of the Cybermen on Spotify!Subscribe to our YouTube Channel!Subscribe to our newsletter at pulltoopen.net for extended notes.Support the podcast by becoming a patron of Pull To Open on Patreon. Please review Pull To Open on Apple Podcasts.Timeline:Intro 00:00:00Previously… 00:02:11Whomoji Challenge 00:10:17Poll to Open 00:15:59Comment of the Week 00:18:53TL;DW 00:27:05Review: The Tomb of the Cybermen 00:29:30Four Questions to Doomsday 01:15:40What If the Evil Plot Had Succeeded? 01:18:50Where Is the Clara Splinter? 01:23:35Final Judgment 01:26:23Randomizer! 01:32:51Follow us on:TikTok: @pulltoopenInstagram: @pulltoopen63Facebook: @pulltoopen63X: @pulltoopen63Threads: @pulltoopen63Bluesky: @pulltoopenPlay Pull To Open BingoStory EssentialsSeason 5, Serial 1 — Episodes 1–4Story number: 36, per the Pull To Open CodexWriters: Kit Pedler and Gerry DavisDirector: Morris BarryScript Editor: Victor PembertonProducer: Peter BryantAired: 2–23 September 1967Pull To Open: The Tomb of the CybermenSeason 7Episode 21Hosts: Pete Pachal and Chris TaylorMusic: Martin West/Thinking Fish©️AnyWho Media LLC 2026Doctor Who ©️BBC 1963
Nikola Tesla invented our world. So why does Doctor Who keep trying to give him credit for WiFi? Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror has everything a great historical needs on paper: one of history’s weirdest geniuses, Thomas Edison as his foil, a terrific Goran Višnjić performance, and alien scavengers who could have been the cosmic extension of the Edison-Tesla rivalry. Instead, the sparks never quite make the jump. Join us as we investigate fan service without a payoff, a suspiciously Racnoss-y queen, Wardenclyffe science that probably never would have worked, Edison’s alleged elephant snuff film, Tesla’s belief in female supremacy, and the Douglas Adams-level idea hiding inside an episode that never quite realizes it. Alternating current? More like alternating quality.Give your own rating for Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror on Spotify!Subscribe to our YouTube Channel!Subscribe to our newsletter at pulltoopen.net for extended notes on Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror.Support the podcast by becoming a patron of Pull To Open on Patreon. Please review Pull To Open on Apple Podcasts.Timeline:Intro 00:00:00Previously… 00:02:31Whomoji Challenge 00:08:36Poll to Open 00:14:13TL;DW 00:18:58Review: Nikola Tesla’s Night of Terror 00:20:28History Corner 00:44:53Four Questions to Doomsday 00:55:49What If the Evil Plot Had Succeeded? 01:00:56Where Is the Clara Splinter? 01:06:42Final Judgment 01:11:56Randomizer! 01:17:40Follow us on:TikTok: @pulltoopenInstagram: @pulltoopen63Facebook: @pulltoopen63X: @pulltoopen63Threads: @pulltoopen63Bluesky: @pulltoopenPlay Pull To Open BingoStory EssentialsSeries 12, Episode 4Story number: 292, per the Pull To Open CodexWriter: Nina MetivierDirector: Nida ManzoorScript Editor: Sheena BucktowonsingProducer: Nikki WilsonExecutive Producers: Chris Chibnall, Matt StrevensAired: 19 January 2020Pull To Open: Nikola Tesla's Night of TerrorSeason 7Episode 20Hosts: Pete Pachal and Chris TaylorMusic: Martin West/Thinking Fish©️AnyWho Media LLC 2026Doctor Who ©️BBC 1963
There are Doctor Who stories that look cheap, and then there’s Underworld: the story so broke it couldn’t afford a cave. Its vast underground world was instead conjured with experimental CSO, earning the serial a reputation that has survived for nearly half a century. But hold the fumigation! Beneath those wobbly electronic rocks lurk some genuinely huge ideas: the Time Lords’ disastrous first attempt at interference, regeneration as immortality, a 100,000-year cosmic quest and K9 saving everybody with what appear to be telephone wires. Grab your Golden Fleece and join us as we ask the forbidden question: does Underworld actually… not suck?Give your own rating for Underworld on Spotify!Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and become a True Companion of the podcast to get new episodes before everyone else!Subscribe to our newsletter at pulltoopen.net for extended notes on Underworld.Support the podcast by becoming a patron of Pull To Open on Patreon. Please review Pull To Open on Apple Podcasts.Timeline:Intro 00:00:00Previously… 00:02:57Whomoji Challenge 00:07:54Poll to Open 00:12:40Comment of the Week 00:15:16TL;DW 00:20:56Review: Underworld 00:23:24Four Questions to Doomsday 01:00:57What If the Evil Plot Had Succeeded? 01:03:43Where Is the Clara Splinter? 01:06:15Final Judgment 01:10:12Randomizer! 01:13:47Follow us on:TikTok: @pulltoopenInstagram: @pulltoopen63Facebook: @pulltoopen63X: @pulltoopen63Threads: @pulltoopen63Bluesky: @pulltoopenPlay Pull To Open BingoStory EssentialsSeason 15, Serial 5Story number: 96, per the Pull To Open CodexWriter: Bob Baker, Dave MartinDirector: Norman StewartScript Editor: Anthony ReadProducer: Graham WilliamsAired: 7–28 January 1978Pull To Open: UnderworldSeason 7Episode 19Hosts: Pete Pachal and Chris TaylorMusic: Martin West/Thinking Fish©️AnyWho Media LLC 2026Doctor Who ©️BBC 1963
Achoo! Humanity may have survived millions of years into the future, but apparently the common cold is still an extinction-level threat. The Ark sends the First Doctor, Steven and brand-new companion Dodo aboard an enormous generation ship packed with humans, Monoids, miniature criminals and one very real elephant—then delivers one of the greatest cliffhangers in Doctor Who history. Shame about what happens next. Join us as we jump 700 years into the future to investigate Beatles-wigged cyclopes, the galaxy’s biggest miniaturization plot hole, suspiciously accommodating invisible aliens, and a tale of colonial anxiety that looks very different through 2026 eyes. Just remember: if your mouth is also your eye, maybe don’t order the chicken.Give your own rating for The Ark on Spotify!Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and become a True Companion of the podcast to get new episodes before everyone else!Subscribe to our newsletter at pulltoopen.net for extended notes on The Ark.Support the podcast by becoming a patron of Pull To Open on Patreon. Please review Pull To Open on Apple Podcasts.Timeline:Intro 00:00:00Previously… 00:02:55Whomoji Challenge 00:07:05Poll to Open 00:10:52Comment of the Week 00:13:52TL;DW 00:19:06Review: The Ark 00:21:57Four Questions to Doomsday 00:56:19What If the Evil Plot Had Succeeded? 00:58:46Where Is the Clara Splinter? 01:02:26Final Judgment 01:07:12Randomizer! 01:12:44Follow us on:TikTok: @pulltoopenInstagram: @pulltoopen63Facebook: @pulltoopen63X: @pulltoopen63Threads: @pulltoopen63Bluesky: @pulltoopenPlay Pull To Open BingoStory EssentialsSeason 3, Serial 6Story number: 22, per The Pull To Open CodexWriter: Paul Erickson, Lesley ScottDirector: Michael ImisonScript Editor: Gerry DavisProducer: John WilesExecutive Producers: N/AAired: 5–26 March 1966Pull To Open: The ArkSeason 7Episode 18Hosts: Pete Pachal and Chris TaylorMusic: Martin West/Thinking Fish©️AnyWho Media LLC 2026Doctor Who ©️BBC 1963
Doctor Who’s Cold War has the perfect pitch: an Ice Warrior wakes up aboard a Soviet nuclear submarine in 1983, with Matt Smith, Jenna Coleman, Liam Cunningham, Tobias Menzies and David Warner trapped beneath the Arctic ice. So why does it feel less like The Hunt for Red October with a Martian and more like an ordinary Doctor Who episode that happens to be wet? Join us as we crack open Skaldak’s armor, question whether submerged missiles can actually launch, salute the man who may have saved the real world in 1983, and prosecute Mark Gatiss for choosing the wrong Ultravox song. The sets are drenched, the cast is stacked and the premise is nuclear—but the payoff? This means nothing to us. Oh, Vienna.Give your own rating for Cold War on Spotify!Subscribe to our YouTube Channel and become a True Companion of the podcast to get new episodes before everyone else!Subscribe to our newsletter at pulltoopen.net for extended notes on Cold War.Support the podcast by becoming a patron of Pull To Open on Patreon. Please review Pull To Open on Apple Podcasts.Timeline:Intro 00:00:00Previously… 00:02:01Whomoji Challenge 00:07:34Poll to Open 00:12:57Comment of the Week 00:16:16TL;DW 00:22:21Review: Cold War 00:23:41History Corner 00:52:13Four Questions to Doomsday 01:04:30What If the Evil Plot Had Succeeded? 01:06:32Where Is the Clara Splinter? 01:14:33Final Judgment 01:19:15Randomizer! 01:23:13Follow us on:TikTok: @pulltoopenInstagram: @pulltoopen63Facebook: @pulltoopen63X: @pulltoopen63Threads: @pulltoopen63Bluesky: @pulltoopenPlay Pull To Open BingoStory EssentialsSeries 7, Episode 8Story number: 237, per the Pull To Open CodexWriter: Mark GatissDirector: Douglas MackinnonProducer: Marcus WilsonExecutive Producers: Steven Moffat and Caroline SkinnerAired: 13 April 2013Pull To Open: Cold WarSeason 7Episode 17Hosts: Pete Pachal and Chris TaylorMusic: Martin West/Thinking Fish©️AnyWho Media LLC 2026Doctor Who ©️BBC 1963
