Description
Dogs.
They’re companions, guardians, and much much more – they complete us. And they just might save us from ourselves.
Anna Webb explores all levels of modern dog ownership and brings to life why every dog is extraordinary.
She speaks to scientists and experts - people who have and are changing our understanding of dogs - on everything from emotional intelligence to nutrition to behaviour, delving deep into subjects like homeopathy, telepathic communication and the pet food scandal.
It's thought provoking, alternative, and not a little subversive.

This week we're joined by musician, actor, and activist Collette Cooper about her campaign to raise awareness of MBR Acres that breeds beagles for experimentation. Collette, a long time supporter of Camp Beagle, wanted to do more than protest so along with Lois Winstone, came up with an idea of a punk-style 'Free the Beagles' T-shirt that could be sold to help raise money and awareness. Fashion designer, Gresham Blake, then got involved and designed the T-shirt and suggested the slogan 'God Save the Beagles' and famed photographer Rankin did the photo shoot. All money raised goes to Beagle Freedom Project UK.Get you T-shirts at greshamblake.com and follow Collette on @collettcooperFor more about Zooomy and Naturaw, including A Dog's Life discounts you can use, go to the 'Anna Recommends' page at annawebb.co.ukMusic and production by Mike Hanson for Pod People ProductionsCover art by JaijoCover photo by Rhian Ap Gruffydd at Gruff Pawtraits
This week we're talking to Dr Graham Matheson and Joe Flanagan about the bone regenerative product Tvati. This new holistic joint support for dogs is based on traditional Maori medicines in the Cook Island. Dr Graham aka Cookie, had to get permission from the island's traditional leaders to research and develop the remedy for wider use. Joe Flanagan is distributing Tvati through Ingenious Probiotics. Dr Graham has seen remarkable recovery with athletes and Anna can attest that Prudence is also seeing the benefits. For more information go to ingenious-probiotics.comFor more about Zooomy and Naturaw, including A Dog's Life discounts you can use, go to the 'Anna Recommends' page at annawebb.co.ukMusic and production by Mike Hanson for Pod People ProductionsCover art by JaijoCover photo by Rhian Ap Gruffydd at Gruff Pawtraits
We’re joined by Author and Screenwriter, Gary Goldstein, discussing is fourth novel, Canine Custody. It’s the story highlighting why when couples split the dog can get caught in the middle, reflecting the best and the worst of human nature. Drawing on his own experiences, Gary weaves a realistic picture that many can resonate to. Betty, a Springer Spanie,l is in the centre role, acting as a ’go-between’. Already receiving great reviews, he chats about hopefully bringing Canine Custody to the screen. As a huge dog lover, Gary also talks about his own dogs and why rescuing Labradors is his passion. Canine Custody is released September 22. We’re joined by Vet, Dr Humphrey Grimmett, discussing why adding long chain oral Hyaluronic Acid (HA) can help balance the body’s HA resources as it naturally depletes with age.Playing a key role as nature’s ‘sponge’ or shock absorber, HA is a compound dogs produce naturally, but its production slows down with age or after injury. This can impact on mobility as one of the main purposes of HA is to cushion the moveable joints, the knees, hips, and shoulders enabling them to move smoothly, rather than becoming stiff and potentially causing pain. We chat about other factors that HA contributes to in human’s as well as dogs and of course cats too! This includes eye health and skin health. But Humphrey points out that the HA found in face creams is a short chain form, whereas taken orally the long chain has been scientifically proven to be absorbed more efficiently. We’re joined by Orthopedic Surgeon, Gordon Maclellan, chewing the fat on several issues, not least environmental factors implicating many health conditions, like hip dysplasia and undescended testicles. We discuss the benefits of Ultrasound over X-rays, and why Ultrasound in the Veterinary profession arguably could be optimised more in line with the use of Ultrasound in human medicine. We also discuss aspects of epi-genetics and how the environment from the water we drink and the food we eat can influence individual DNA expression and why products often used in the home like air fresheners contribute to an indoor environment often considered over three times more toxic than outdoors. We talk about testing before treating not only with Titre Tests and why ultra sounds are gradually more commonly being used for diagnosis.
