On the first episode of The Free Time Podcast, I open up about my personal journey leading up to the decision to start the podcast. I'm the son of immigrant parents who came to America from a small country in West Africa in search of a better life. At an early age, I realized how lucky I was to have the basic opportunities like a great education and healthcare that several of my relatives didn't have back home.... and it made me feel guilty deep down. I didn't know how, but I decided it was my responsibility to do something with my life to pay my good fortune forward. In this episode, I open up about my struggles around going astray from the original commitment I made to paying my good fortune forward, and how becoming super intentional with using my free time as an asset has made me come more alive than even and put me on path towards living a life of true fulfillment. You can follow more of my journey on Instagram @karl.sona and you can book a free 15 minute Zoom call with me at https://calendly.com/karlsona32 (https://calendly.com/karlsona32)

In today's episode, I talk with Lauren Vanags Davis, founder of LDavis Creative, who is an incredible personal branding and social media marketing expert that has a passion for helping individuals and brands tell their story in a real and authentic way. In the first ever interview of The Free Time Podcast, Lauren talks about how she has always found her passion by being intentional about noticing what people would always ask her advice on. She opens up about how every 'wow' moment she has ever had in her life and her business has reminded her of the feelings of a grade school crush! Now, that's a feeling we can all relate to! You're definitely gonna want to give this one a listen if you want to be more intentional with your free time to discover your true purpose and potential! In today's episode, Connor Dube, Host of The Mile High Mentors Podcast, came on the show, and explained how many of us can actually block ourselves from finding purpose by getting in the habit of focusing on what we need to ADD into our lives...When he said this, I felt my face immediately turn red with guilt lol.Connor suggested that a lot of people can easily fall victim to ‘shiny object syndrome’ whether it be in dating, career choices, or our relationships...Where we obsess on whether the grass is greener on the other side, and chase all of the rabbits instead of one, and end up with NONE. Instead, he suggests a different approach...Focus on what you need to ELIMINATE. Give this one a listen if you're feeling stuck or confused about your next step, or if you're running around chasing a bunch of different opportunities and haven't successfully pinned one down yet. People always ask me how I have the energy to do everything I do and go 'a million miles an hour'. I don't know that I go a million miles an hour, nor would I'd ever recommend anyone go that speed, but I do believe that there is an art to being so intentional about creating protected time for yourself that you actually gain the energy to move at a faster pace if the moment calls for it. In today's super quick bonus episode, I breakdown my morning routine, and discuss how it's become one of the most valuable assets that helped me create the energy and focus to work towards all that I do. What are your ideas or stories worth? I believe the answer is absolutely nothing; unless you start sharing them. We're all unique individuals and the G.O.A.T's of our own lives... no one else is ever going to be able to ever tell it quite as well as you can, because no one else has experienced it from your perspective. You have a voice, you a have a mouth, and therefore you have something worthwhile to say. All of the greatest brands, companies, and things we interact with in our everyday lives started with a story or an idea that was effectively communicated. In this quick bonus episode, I explain how sharing stories is a new currency, and why you should think about sharing more of your own! We all have that little voice in the pit of our stomach that works tirelessly to steer us towards choices that place us on a path of true happiness and fulfillment. Yet, when push comes to shove, our gut instincts tend to get drowned out by a more ‘rational’ voice… the voice of our conscious minds that often tell us to fall in line and stay on the straight and narrow of belief systems that have been widely accepted by society or popular culture. On today’s episode, Dorothy Illson, founder of the Do Well, Do Good Podcast, sits down to share her story about the power behind following her gut and staying true to herself. She explains exactly how she went from turning in her letter of resignation at a Fortune 500 company just two weeks after her college graduation, to taking a MASSIVE leap of faith, joining the start-up world, and ultimately founding her company Needle Eye’s Media. Dorothy breaks down the power behind asking ourselves better questions, and how we can build a stronger mindset to help us create great success and leverage it as a contribution to the world. This is a great episode for anyone who is curious about how to step up and confidently take a stand for what you really want out of life, and how to go after it.
