Endometriosis is a common health issue affecting women—one in ten women have it! And I would say that probably ten out of ten women have been dismissed by their doctor at some point in their journey. Because typically, you go to your doctor with signs and symptoms of endometriosis, and the first thing you're told is, “Oh, here, just take the pill. Here's a painkiller; periods are meant to be painful and that's just the way it is.” In this episode, we’re going to talk about the symptoms of endometriosis and some strategies to help you get the care you need. Many women go for years struggling because doctors dismiss their symptoms and try to suppress them with medications—without getting to the root cause. Sometimes doctors have to use some form of hormonal contraceptive to treat a woman with symptoms of endometriosis, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t ask why she has these symptoms. On today's episode, Cody goes into a deep dive about the what, why and how when it comes to understanding Endometriosis.Did you learn something new today? There are some crazy facts out there about women's health that you might be shocked about. For instance, did you know that it was only in 2015 when the NIH required medical investigators to consider sex as a biological variable? In this episode, Cody invites Jess Toolson and Sine Bentley to join in on this conversation about current stats on women and their reproductive health, those that are experiencing Endometriosis, ovarian cancer, as well as how the medical world treats women's heart health and pain management. We want to break down the barriers that women face in healthcare by giving you a greater understanding of your own health.  We want to empower women, so they feel more in control over their own health and have the confidence to seek medical help if problems arise. There needs to be more resources and guidance to improve diagnostic criteria and time, understanding of disease pathologies, and medical outcomes. We have to build awareness and trust, to empower women to talk to their doctor when they feel something isn’t quite right. GPs also need to receive greater training on female specific problems, so women are diagnosed earlier, and their health concerns are taken seriously and not dismissed or marginalized.Did you learn something new today? It is surprising that for as long as we've had birth control available to women there is still so much we don't know about how it impacts our body, our relationships, and our overall life. You may be familiar with some of the side effects of hormonal birth control, like depression, blood clots, and weight gain. You might also know that birth control pills, which are often prescribed for things other than contraception—like irregular periods or acne—aren’t the best solution for managing symptoms. In fact, the pill ultimately makes symptoms like acne worse. But hormonal birth control has other, more far-reaching consequences…Specifically, taking the pill can wreak havoc on your love life. We know that probably sounds far out or completely made up, but the idea that hormonal birth control has real consequences for your love life comes directly from scientific research, that is what Cody is going to dive into with us today.Did you learn something new today? Did you know that the products you're using on your body can be wreaking havoc on your hormones? While it’s hard to believe that conventional beauty companies would ever include toxic ingredients in their products, the fact is that they do—it’s still common practice and perfectly legal. To give you an idea of where we are, consider that there are 11 cosmetic ingredients currently banned by the FDA, while in the EU, over 1,300 ingredients are banned. Companies operating in the US face much less stringent regulations than companies operating in the EU do, so US companies continue to pack the products that we use every day (mascara, face wash, conditioner, make up and more) with potentially harmful ingredients that can include known carcinogens, irritants, and endocrine disruptors. On today's episode Cody has invited special guest and expert on clean beauty, Mindy Mackenzie. Mindy currently serves as CEO of Beautycounter, a mission-driven clean beauty company. Prior to Beautycounter, she was Partner & Chief Performance Officer for The Carlyle Group, a global investment firm with over $382 billion in assets. Prior to joining Carlyle in 2017, Ms. Mackenzie was founder and principal of her own firm focused on advising CEOs and thriving leaders on how to unlock and accelerate performance. In addition to serving as Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company, she served as global head of strategy, M&A and human resources at liquor giant Jim Beam, and earlier in her career lived and worked internationally for Campbell Soup Company and Walmart Stores, Inc. in senior human capital leadership roles. Ms. Mackenzie is the author of the 2016 WSJ bestseller The Courage Solution: The Power of Truth Telling With Your Boss, Peers, and Team. Join Cody and Jess as they welcome guests Kass and Emily of "Little Bit's of Awesome" Podcast...and a LIVE studio audience! So fun!Together, they take questions from you, and from the live audience members to discuss how to set ourselves up for success in reaching our most important goals this year by focusing on our routines rather than just resolutions. The questions were amazing and the answers were fun and inspiring. But, in this episode these ladies take us  beyond the typical tips. They break it down for us on how to really determine what goals matter most to us, how to feel our why and they share what the true secret sauce is to staying motivated all the way to the end goal.We love our guests!:Kass Martin and Emily Engemann are sisters and best friends who have made a decision to live life to the fullest and they love helping others do the same! They are wives, moms, fitness instructors, entrepreneurs, podcasters, friends and professional deal finders. They love connecting with others. People are their passion!
