Description

Unscripted conversations with Toni Cowan-Brown and Sorcha Rochford about current affairs, pop culture, life, and how we got here.

We are fiercely opinionated, unapologetically honest and we don’t always agree. Join us weekly for a deep dive into honest conversations where empathy and vulnerability, and facts take center stage.

From this conversation, we came to the realisation that we may also be romanticising an era of journalism that no longer exists. In an ever-globalised world, we are continuously aware of what's happening but our media may not be equipped to cover the complexities of such events as the uprising that we are witnessing in Iran. As we continue to be in the 24h news cycle, what is the line between a journalist and a celebrity pundit?  And who do we trust to bring us to deliver the news impartially and factually?
We took some time to look at what the data can tell us about these mid-term elections and what we can expect moving forward. Stay tuned for part two next week where we discuss election integrity.
Leadership for rent

Leadership for rent

As two women who identify as the left side of the political aisle, we question why the UK Conservative party has a track record of putting women forward to be elected (unlike the Labour party) and yet these women are constantly set up for failure. When we're in the conversation about women in leadership, we identify that the failings are present in all industries - from politics to porn.ps: please excuse me for calling Megan Markle, Magle.
We can acknowledge the magnitude of her leadership and her role as a woman over nine decades - from Winston to Truss. No other leader, let alone a woman has lived through. that tenure. With that said, we cannot overlook the violent colonization by the British Empire of African, Asian and Caribbean nations. A bitter reminder to many of the decades of suffering, and economic and social devastation to many Black, POC, and Irish communities... just to name a few. Now more than ever, the role of the royal family is in question.
It is a very slippery slope to have two separate platforms - one for each ideology (i.e. Twitter and Truth) - whereby we can pretend that the 'other' isn't present and actively so. What does it look like (and take) to be able to listen to the other side? If only to remain informed vs. the very human desire we have to change minds.E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co www.unapologeticwomen.co
Most recently a man by the name of Andrew Tate took the internet by storm mostly because of his falsehoods and our desire for polarizing content. There is an inherent complexity in discussing the likes of Andrew Tate but are there pieces we can all agree with? The reality is that we often don't have the tools or even channels/spaces to have an informed discussion on the topic.E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co www.unapologeticwomen.co
For our first episode back we started our conversation on the recent media outrage targeted at Finnish Prime Minister, Sanna Marin for being a woman that ‘had the audacity’ to go out on a night out with friends. This story hit a nerve with both of us for many reasons but at its core, it was the double standard.E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co www.unapologeticwomen.co
Shut up and perform

Shut up and perform

We acknowledge that this is not a zero-sum game and that it is not a 'male' problem but rather a societal issue. We live in a society that has isolated women to be objects and performers rather than people. This is not a man vs. woman problem - we all have to change the way we think, act, and react.E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
Important to note that the Hulu documentary did not involve Pamela Anderson in its creation - this is a focal point of our conversation as women are constantly left out of the decision making  process even when it is about them. E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
In the episode, we cover a lot of ground. The “high cost associated with changing your mind”, as told by Joe Swinson led us into a discussion on how to accept that humans make mistakes that enable us to grow for the better—worth noting that many “mistakes” highlighted in the media are not mistakes. We also discuss the concept of ‘group think’ and how it can impact the way in which we treat each other. On a daily basis, we engage with individuals however we affiliate them with their group rather than as individuals.Ali, closed us out with a powerful question that we want to pose to you—when was the last time you changed your mind?E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co

Are you free to speak?

This isn't an in-depth analysis of freedom of speech but as with all our episodes, it covers a multitude of relevant topics such as book burning, both the education and emotional impact of historical monuments, and the recent decisions made on school’s curriculum. This left us wondering is there an expiration on the ways in which people have expressed freedom of speech?E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co

In this episode, we discuss the different ways in which voices are amplified, in particular looking at those who have felt dismissed by traditional media outlets and ultimately return to the familiarity. In this instance, we kick off discussing Joe Rogan and the expert opinions and knowledge he receives on topics that he and his guests may not be equipped to speak impartially and factually on.Ultimately the question we tried to answer in our conversation was—Where does the responsibility lie? Is it on the listener to do their due diligence or is it the platform hosting the content or the hosts and guests?
In the episode, we dig into the idea that all "orthodox" economists are men who are looked after by a wife or a mother and that's shaped how they define economic value & productivity. There are so many facets to this conversation and for that, we are grateful to have Laëtitia's expert perspective. We discussed motherhood, the impacts of COVID on women, the historical dependence on men dictating our economic worth, and how some women win the lottery with genetics. If you are looking for other points of view on this topic we shared some resources here. If you only read one, we recommend Career Women: the French vs the American Model (Laetitia@Work). This is the final episode in our three-part conversation to really dive into the correlations between ageism, feminism, and women in the workforce. E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
Feminism needs to be a fluid conversation, there are waves of it and a myriad of ways to define it but as we evolve so should our definitions. For so long men have been a part of the problem, but what does it look like when they are part of the solution? We are in a moment where men are being given the opportunity to rethink their definitions of masculinity—in Liz Plank’s words, “From toxic to a more mindful masculinity.”E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
If like us you were wondering what ageism is, we referred to the WHOs definition that identifies ageism intersects and exacerbates other forms of disadvantage including those related to sex, race and disability.Ageism refers to the stereotypes (how we think),prejudice (how we feel) and, discrimination (how we act) towards others or oneself based on age.Stay tuned this will be a three-part conversation to really dive into the correlations between ageism, sexism, and women in the workforce. Our last episode will include an expert on the topic. E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
What does this new era of media companies tell us about our changing relationship to media, influencers and content creators? Do we get our content more from individuals (regardless of where they work) or the media outlets they work for (regardless of the journalist or opinion writer)? And why are we seemingly moving away from the term 'freelancers' to 'content creators'? And are they even the same thing?E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co

This activism can take many forms. From Marcus Rushford standing up for children without meals in the UK, To Taylor Swift voicing her opinion for the first time in the political landscape. From Jamela Jamil speaking up about body dysmorphia and the role of the beauty industry to Lewis Hamilton wearing BLM t-shirts on the F1 podiums and most recently Naomi Osaka choosing her mental health above tennis. In doing so they have all become unlikely ambassadors outside of their profession.  E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
When talking about our respective love for Football and Formula One, we discovered the connective tissues that we individually shared with our fathers in our love for these sports. In moving to America, both Toni and Sorcha set out to find respective communities, ultimately finding a home away from home within these sports. In next week’s episode we will continue this conversation and ask the question - when does politics have a role in sports, and should it?E-mail: hello@unapologeticwomen.co and/or follow us on Instagram www.instagram.com/unapologeticwomenpodcast/Thanks for tuning in and see you next week.www.unapologeticwomen.co
