Andy makes his triumphant return this week to bring to a close a celebration of 20 years of Metroid Prime Hunters. The gang are discussing what a modernized redo of the Hunters concept would look like, from having set levels with objectives versus a traditional Metroid Prime-style singleplayer campaign, to removing elements that felt awkwardly forced into a FPS such as scanning, to rotating each level between a different Hunter, to introducing counter-operative multiplayer! We are cooking with what we'd want to see, so let us know what you think! All this, PLUS some talk about Fox McCloud and the Super Mario Bros. Galaxy Movie and thoughts on Nintendo's new digital software pricing. Come hang out!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! Podbean x iTunes x Spotify x YouTube Support us on Patreon! The Metroid Prime Hunters twentieth anniversary celebration continues! On this episode, Doom is joined by Dak, along with special guest Pete "SPIRE_FAN" Grigsby, to definitively rank EVERY SINGLE multiplayer arena from Metroid Prime Hunters. Quite the undertaking at a 2 hour+ runtime, but one the gang is more than happy to take on! We discuss everything from our favorite (or least favorite) memories on these maps, how well it suits our own playstatyles, how it plays in different game modes, how labyrinthian and "Metroid" its level design is, it's atmosphere, art direction and much more! All of this, plus the gang does an impromptu Metroid merch show-and-tell to close out!   Here are the final arena results below: 01) Harvester (Doom: 5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5) - 5 (#1 Pick) 02) Transfer Lock (Doom: 5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5) - 5 (Doominal Crossing’s Pick) 03) Alinos Gateway (Doom: 5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5) - 5 (SPIRE_FAN’s Pick) 04) Council Chamber (Doom: 5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5) - 5 05) Alinos Perch (Doom: 5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 4.5) - 4.83 06) Stasis Bunker (Doom: 5 / Dak: 4.5 / Spire: 5) - 4.83 07) Outer Reach (Doom: 4.5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5)  - 4.83 08) Arcterra Gateway (Doom: 4.5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5) - 4.83 09) Compression Chamber (Doom: 4 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 5) - 4.67 10) Combat Hall (Doom: 5 / Dak: 3.5 / Spire: 5) - 4.5 11) Fuel Stack (Doom: 4.5 / Dak: 4 / Spire: 5) - 4.5 12) Celestial Gateway (Doom: 4 / Dak: 4.5 / Spire: 5) - 4.5 13) Sic Transit (Doom: 4 / Dak: 4 / Spire: 5) - 4.33 14) Weapons Complex (Doom: 4 / Dak: 4.5 / Spire: 4.5) - 4.33 15) VDO Gateway (Doom: 4 / Dak: 4 / Spire: 5) - 4.33 16) Oubliette (Doom: 5 / Dak: 5 / Spire: 3) - 4.33 17) High Ground (Doom: 3.5 / Dak: 4/ Spire: 4.5) - 4 18) Incubation Vault (Doom: 4 / Dak: 3.5 / Spire: 4.5) - 4 19) Fault Line (Doom: 3 / Dak: 4 / Spire: 5) - 4 20) Data Shrine (Doom: 3.5 / Dak: 4 / Spire: 4) - 3.83 21) Ice Hive (Doom: 4 / Dak: 3 / Spire: 4.5) - 3.83 22) Subterranean (Doom: 3 / Dak: 4 / Spire: 4.5) - 3.83 23) Sanctorus (Doom: 3 / Dak: 2.5 / Spire: 5) - 3.5 24) Elder Passage (Doom: 2.5 / Dak: 3 / Spire: 5) - 3.5 25) Head Shot (Doom: 3.5 / Dak: 2 / Spire: 4.5) - 3.33 26) Processor Core (Doom: 4 / Dak: 1 / Spire: 4.5) - 3.17   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Metroid Prime Hunters turns twenty tomorrow on March 20th, 2026! That's a crazy sentance to type out, but it's true! In fact, there's lots of Metroid anniversaries coming up this year, but it all starts here with Hunters! We discuss everything from the reveal of the title at Nintendo's E3 2004 press conference, the First Hunt demo packed in with launch window Nintendo DS units, and of course the full game along with the impacts its made for both ourselves and gaming as a whole. This a big one, you won't want to miss it! All of this PLUS... Doominal Crossing finally reveals the secret project he's been working on!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! We're keeping the vibes high this week, as we bring back an old favorite with a new twist: Guess That Metroid Area! We have 10 yes or no questions to try and determine which area the other is thinking of, so we're testing our Metroid knowledge and plsying our opponents in the ultimate Metroid game show! We even go Fusion Difficulty and try to get the area in 6 questions! All this, PLUS a little games roundtable of what we've been playing, we touch on the EA layoffs, and we weight in on the heavyweight match o the century: Nintendo versus the United States Government and the Trump Administration! The boys are back in town! After a couple of weeks away from the podcast, Doominal Crossing rejoins Andy Spiteri for their first episode away from Metroid Prime 4 in over three months.  The gang turns their attention to what will likely be the next new Metroid title we focus on: Metroid 6! Andy and Doom go into granular detail on their hopes and dreams for MercurySteam's next outting, including the role of Samus's Metroid powers, story ideas, new gameplay mechanics, level design, side quests, the game's scope, and more! It will be interesting to come back to this episode in the future after we play it and see what comes to fruition! All of this, plus Doom talks about the new demo for Replaced that dropped recently, while Andy talks about his thoughts on the Indie Direct as well as Pokémon Wind + Waves!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Alien In Review is back to go over the last (for now) movie in the Alien saga left to cover: Ridley Scott's 2017 sequel to Prometheus, Alien: Covenant. We're focusing in on the SFX catching up to the intent of the Xenomorph and how it makes for the best version of the monster yet, how this sequel better balances the horror of Alien with the philosophy of Prometheus, if some of the decisions the characters make in the story are irrational, and analyze Michael Fassbender's captivating performance as both Walter, the new and improved Android model, and David, the complex synthetic from the first movies who's desire to create life at any costs birthed the Xenomorphs as we know them.  Alien In Review will return! In the meantime, if you like Andy and Goo talking movies, check out their other podcast Virtual Theater, a podcast about video game movies and the stories that shape them!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Andy and Doom had major technical issues this week and weren't able to get together for a redo, so as a make good, we are unlocking a special Patreon episode! ROM Hack Reviews returns with a Metroid Fusion ROM Hack from Spedimus called Metroid: Oil Spill! Placing Samus on a freighter leaking (you guessed it) OIL, players will have to navigate this open world while trying to stay alive against the games brutal difficulty. Is this game what fans of a more open Metroid Fusion experience have been longing for, or is the difficulty too steep to make this one worth recommending? Tune in to find out, and if you're feeling brave, challenge this hack for yourself! All this, PLUS some Solo Spiteri time as Andy breaks down the return of Castlevania, the new God of War Metroidvania, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol 2., and more! Definitive Ranking returns! This time around, we’re putting a bow on our dedicated coverage of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and we are going out with a bang. We cover the good, the bad, and the ugly; the breathtaking graphics, the horrific story, the rock solid gameplay, the divisive level design, the soundtrack and if it hits, and so much more! Come play along, and as always, here’s the criteria for the Definitive Rankings: World / Atmosphere (the vibe, the setting, the mood) Art Style (design of Samus, the enemies, the graphics in general) Story (what works, what doesn’t) Pacing / Progression (are there any parts that really bog the player down, or is it still fun getting lost?) Gameplay / “Gimmick” (what new or different gameplay aspects we like) Items / Abilities (how are the powerups and are they cool and practical) Areas (how does each individual area look, feel, play, etc.) Enemies / Bosses (are they fun, creative, etc.) Expansions / Powerups (are the expansions hidden throughout the world fun, creative, and enjoyable to collect?) Music (are we humming along?) Of course, all of these are subjective, and we’re putting our critics hats on, but we want to hear what you have to say on Bluesky!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! We are back and continuing the discussion around Metroid Prime 4 this week, and tackling one of the most contentious aspects of the game: the areas! We discuss the pros and cons of each locale, debate whether it's better for an area to try new things and fail or retread old ground and be fine, and end up definitively ranking them at the end. Sol Valley is definitely a hot topic, so you'll want to weigh in with your thoughts! All this, PLUS some discussion about Wal-Mart's leaked Metroid Prime 2 NSO advertisement and when we could realistically see Echoes on Nintendo Classics. Come hang out!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! What a week for Metroid! We are going over a bombshell interview that Series Producer Kensuke Tanabe and a few other developers conducted with Japanese outlet Nintendo Dream, which Omega Metroid independently translated, where a whole slew of topics were discussed, with the most prominent piece of news being Tanabe confirming he will no longer produce games for Nintendo! Also discussed were Tanabe's successor, the level design philosophy of Metroid Prime 4, the inspiration behind the games ending, what Sylux was up to while on Viewros, and a whole lot more! All this, PLUS our first glimpse at how Metroid Prime 4's sales are doing, and a message of hope for everyone affected by the brutal ICE murders of the last several weeks. Get ready to put your gloves up, because this week, we are ranking all of the bosses in Metroid Prime 4! From the absolute highlights like Xelios, Phenoros and the Omega Griever to some of the less impactful bosses like Carvex and Varmis, we have a lot to say about why these bosses worked and where they rank in the Metroid Prime pantheon. We also spend a bunch of time on *that* final boss encounter, break it down to each phase, normal vs hard difficulty, and what we would change. All this, PLUS some MetroidHQthon and NEStroid talk! Another week, another discussion about Metroid Prime 4, except this time, we're answering your questions! We cover a bevy of topics like: what constitutes a linear Metroid game? Why did we think Sylux would have a large character arc? Was Beyond worse off for focusing on Sylux? What was our favorite song from the game? Are we worried about the future of Metroid Prime in the hands of Retro Studios? What kind of story DLC would entice us to go back to Metroid Prime 4? What can Nintendo do to make Sylux cool again? All this, PLUS some Avatar, Halo, and movie talk, and a spotlight on MetroidHQthon this weekend which will see Andy playing NEStroid! Come hang out!   Download Episode   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! We're starting 2026 off with a bang by discussing Nintendo's recent interview with Fasmitsu about Metroid Prime 4! Translated by our pals over at Shinesparkers, this interview with the unnamed developer touches on multiple topics, including the premise of the game and the intent for Sylux to be a major player, the placement of Beyond in the Metroid timeline, the challenges of restarting development, how Sol Valley and Vi-O-La came to be, what influence Breath of the Wild had on development, and the rationale behind that controversial ending. We are giving our thoughts and reactions, saying what we sympathize with and what offends us about these answers. All this, PLUS we're talking about what we want to see from the Metroid series in 2026! Beyond DLC, Metroid 6, Vi-O-La in Mario Kart, and more! Come hang out!   Visit OmegaMetroid.com! Subscribe! We're back with the next chapter of our Metroid Prime 4: Beyond journey! This week we're approaching the end as we discuss the last major area in the game: the Great Mines. We discuss everything about the area from the art direction, level design, puzzles, the greater emphasis on combat, including some of the unique gameplay hooks that accompany it as well as an absolutely KILLER boss fight that left everyone impressed! We also go over the storyline of the mines regarding the Galactic Federation Troopers that join us and discuss our opinions of how that's handled. All of this, plus a short discussion on the Mech Parts and Green Energy Crystals which make up Metroid Prime 4's version of the series' mainstay endgame fetch quest. Come let us know what your thoughts are, and beware: there are spoilers for the Great Mines and the late game fetch quests! Next week, it's time for the grand finale as we enter the point of no return and discuss the game's last area and final boss. We're back with more Metroid Prime 4! This week, we continue our journey and discuss Volt Forge, its crazy puzzles, vertical level design, pounding soundtrack, and pair of awesome, yet curious, boss battles! We then talk Vi-O-La, how it feels, how it handles, what combat is like, and the transition to the biggest point of contention: Sol Valley! What do we think of the desert, do we like the Shrines, are the crashed GF sites interesting, and is the desert just too empty? Plus, we have a HEATED debate about Vi-O-La radio and whether it should be locked behind amiibo or not. Come let us know what your thoughts are, and beware: there are spoilers for Volt Forge and the early parts of the game before Ice Belt within! To celebrate, we're dropping a special bonus episode of the pod where the entire gang get together to discuss the opening hour or so of Beyond! We talk about our thoughts on the title menu, Quality Mode and how the game runs, the combat and how enemy variety and early combat options impacted us, the graphical prowess and majestic world of Viewros, thoughts on Chrono Tower and Fury Green, what we think of the story so far and how the game sets you up, the Aberax and Carvex boss fights, and our opinions on Myles MacKenzie and if the preview reactions were overblown or not, and so much more! This is the LAST EPISODE of the Omega Metroid Podcast you will EVER HEAR before METROID PRIME 4 IS RELEASED! A surreal sentence to type, and to celebrate, we are answering a whole gambit of questions, such as: is it better to sell more copies with a lower Metracritic score, or sell less with higher quality? Are we planning om playing in Quality or Performance mode? Are open areas going to be the norm going forward? What's one thing we hope the game doesn't do with Sylux? How could you make Myles actually a cool character?  All this, PLUS we dicuss the early critical reception to Beyond, talk about the developmental timeline, and give thanks to all the Metroid fans that have been with us on this journey! i like the show. thanks for it. only thing i hated was how long was spent on the guy who wanted the federation to be part of the story. after the 30th time mentioning it i wanted to break my phone. 🤣 more focus should have been on the positives instead of the guy complaing about the federation and samus reaction. i agree with other dude, her subtle reactions were perfect and visible if u pay attention. that look she gave quiet robe whem she first saw him was hilarious....looked like she was thinking "oh another chozo, might as well happen....thanks for not tryn to kill me like the first one on the bridge!! 🤣
