Welcome back to my new series “I’m the problem, it’s me,” where I call bullshit on myself for the self-sabotage and mistakes I keep on making, because that’s the stuff that teaches us the most. Today is a vulnerable one. Remember that recent “show me you at 21” trend that circulated on social media? Well that deep-dive through old photo albums and Facebook timelines sent me into a certifiable spiral. Reflecting on who I was in my teens and early 20s, I was confronted with a tidal wave of self hate over how I looked and dressed, how much I drank, how obnoxiously and overly-sexualized I present myself, and how disconnected I seemed to be from who I really am.The judgment and shame towards my past self was overwhelming, until I realized that my current self is in fact the problem. It’s easy to be critical in hindsight, but when we were young, we were almost always doing the best we could with what we knew. I’ve spent a good chunk of adulthood resenting the versions of myself that came before this one. So it’s me, Gill, I’m the problem, it's me. And in today’s episode I’m rewriting my relationship with my past, and choosing compassion. Join me as I dive into: Why looking into my past brought up so much shame How accepting our past selves can lead to more confidence and compassion Aiming for neutrality and acceptance VS unconditional self-love The power of inner child work The tools I’m using to build self-compassion and change my self-talk Why you should write letters to your past self Learning from the versions of ourselves that we’ve outgrownWhy growth and change can go hand-in-hand with griefI hope we can all learn to love the past eras that brought us to this one, and in the meantime, know that I love you. Our show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler, Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. It’s earth month, and every April we find ourselves reevaluating our consumption habits and examining how we can lower our carbon footprint. But TBH, it feels hella stressful. It's overwhelming trying to track alllll the things we're “supposed” to be doing. Between buying sustainable food, conserving water, shopping secondhand, swapping to eco-friendly appliances and tech, composting, and reducing waste, the list feels never-ending, and it feels like we're just not doing enough. So we're throwing it back to an honest and tactical episode that changed our perspective on sustainable living, with the accidental environmentalist herself, Jules Grieve. Because it's easy to let perfect become the enemy of good, and being environmentally conscious is about finding realistic swaps that actually work with your lifestyle. Going green is a game of progress over perfection. Julia is a TV personality, entrepreneur, fashion designer, former international model, and founder of the incredible Preloved, North America’s leading sustainable fashion brand that has diverted over a million sweaters from landfills.  She’s CityLine’s eco expert and regularly appears on Global News and in Canada’s biggest media outlets. Her mission is to show people how simple changes, over time, can have a huge impact, and she’s showing the world how we can take an eco-friendly approach to home design, health, food, fashion and lifestyle. Tune in as we chat about:How Julia became the “accidental environmentalist” and started her brand, PrelovedJulia’s top sustainable swaps that anyone can makeTips for cutting out plastic and reducing your wasteWorking towards a circular economyWays to repair, upcycle, and thrift to extend the lifecycle of our thingsHacks for cutting down on food waste, and the truth about recyclingWhy we should be mindful of our water consumptionFollow Julia:@prelovedjulesjuliagrieve.cagetpreloved.com PS: If you’ve been dreaming of pivoting into podcasting but aren’t sure where to start or how to grow, check our consulting services at teachmehowtoadult.ca/howtopodcast. Sign up for our monthly adulting newsletter:teachmehowtoadult.ca/newsletter Follow us on the ‘gram:@teachmehowtoadultmedia@gillian.bernerFollow us on TikTok: @teachmehowtoadult
If an endless supply of “what ifs” are keeping you stuck in fear and inaction every time you need to make a decision or move forward, this tool could be a game-changer for you. In today’s episode, we’re diving into the valuable advice my career coach shared last year to help stop catastrophic thinking and get to the root of what’s actually causing you worry or paralysis. Because the answer to “what’s the worst that could happen?” usually isn’t as bad as we make it out to be, and even the worst case scenarios are almost always figureoutable.Whether you’re stuck in business decisions, dating, networking, trip-planning or big life changes, keep digging one layer deeper until you find out what’s at the core of your worries, and if that’s something you could handle.Tune in to hear more about:How catastrophic thinking can hold us backWhat was keeping me stuck in inactionThe simple tool my career coach used to change my mindsetExamining the root of your discomfortWeighing out the worst-case scenariosHow this way of thinking helped me invest in real estate Our show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler, Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. Welcome to this week’s ICYMI, where we kick off the week with a quick game-changing tip that you might have missed. There’s more than one way to succeed, and it doesn’t need to be the marriage-house-baby-corporate promotion-trajectory. But it's easy to get caught up in comparison when everyone else is racing down a similar path, and it feels like we're going a completely different direction. We're throwing it back to this potent pep-talk on radically accepting the season we're in, breaking up with comparison, and celebrating our own unique milestones.Listen to our full episode here!Tune in every Monday for an expert dose of life advice in under 10 minutes. This show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host & ProducerOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler , Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. Our relationship with food is so complex and important for both our physical and mental health. I’ve spent a lot of my adult life trying to deprogram diet culture and deal with guilt around certain foods, reprogramming the morality we place on how we eat. And I've spent the last few years trying to figure out how to use food to make me feel physically good... how can I nourish myself, how can I optimize myself with what I consume, and how food impacts my hormone imbalances. So today, we're diving deep with Amber Romaniuk on emotional eating, diet culture, food triggers, and the impact of hormones and cravings. Amber is an Emotional Eating, Digestive and Hormone Expert, with 10 years experience helping women create body confidence, intuition and optimal health through mindset healing, self-care and overcoming self-sabotage with food. Welcome to the first episode of our new series “I’m the problem, it’s me,” where I deep dive on the struggles and fuck-ups I’ve been facing lately, because let’s be honest, sometimes we’re the problem. And those experiences are usually our greatest teachers. Think of this as adulting confessions. And today, I’m calling bullshit on all of the complaining I do about how impossible it is to meet people, and how lonely I feel. Because the reality is, I’ve been optimizing myself out of human connection and removing all my chances for meeting new people in the name of efficiency. Social connection should never be a “reward” we have to earn by being productive and efficient, so I’m on a mission to rewrite how I meet new people and interact with my current network.Tune in as I unpack my problems, and the solutions I’m trying:How apps and automated deliveries have replaced human interaction The link between our social lives and healthspan What we can learn from the blue zones The plan to meet more like-minded friendsThe concept of the “premium effect” in datingBeing strategic about where and how I meet peopleHabit stacking tasks and creating community Our show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler, Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network. Sometimes, you have to let go of something good to let in something great. It’s easy to feel stuck in the choices we’ve made — the job we worked hard to get, the relationship we’ve invested in, the city we chose — but life is not linear, and it’s okay to change your mind.In today’s juicy and vulnerable episode, we’re talking about the magic that can happen when you take the courageous, abundant path, instead of following “what we’re supposed to do.” I’m joined by Alessia Scauzillo, who is the embodiment of following your intuition, embracing the unknown, and pivoting towards the life you really want.It can feel scary to break free from the traditional path, especially when we’re urged to keep up with the societal norms of chasing high-earning corporate careers and the marriage-house-baby trajectory, but that formula isn’t a reality for many of us, and there are so many exciting ways we can choose to live when we prioritize courage over comfort.Alessia is the founder of A Sculpt Body, an online fitness platform and community of thousands of women. Alessia left her decade-long career in the finance world to build her fitness company after falling in love with wellness. She’s hosted over 20 sold out events with over 1,000+ women at top venues across Toronto, NYC and Miami. She’s regularly featured in media brands like Breakfast Television, We Met At Acme, and Business Insider as an expert in balanced wellness, navigating divorce and relationships, and creating your entrepreneurial dreams.Tune in as we chat about:What Alessia learned through her divorce and the realities of 'conscious uncoupling'How to know when it’s time to leave... a job, a relationship, a placeDealing with fear of regret and the unknown  Tapping into your intuition and learning to trust your gutDating with intention and confidenceThere are still good guys out there!!!Working out for mental clarity and living with balanceThe power of your community during big transitionsHow grief helped fuel Alessia's biggest life decisions Follow Alessia on InstagramFollow Alessia on TikTokTry a free 7 day trial of A Sculpt BodyThis show is produced by:Gillian Berner, Host, Producer & EditorOlivia Nashmi, Audio EngineerKyla Killackey, Digital EditorCarolyn Schissler , Designer & Web ProducerFor advertising and sponsorship inquiries, please contact Frequency Podcast Network.
