After eluding grey hair and small type on his phone, it’s Gwyneth Paltrow that makes John finally feel like a senior citizen. He says goodbye to the Starbuck cabin and tells the wind how we really feel.
John laments the tax on bad golfers, learns the value of relentlessly pursuing your goals from a wise elder, and might watch his first John Wayne movie.
It’s the changing of the seasons. Time for John to get the boat in, for Tally’s Dockside to open, and for you to realize your dress clothes no longer fit post Covid.
John talks man crushes, aging, and even gets some life lessons from Bon Jovi. Because the only thing you can’t be in this life is a quitter.
50 is a milestone birthday, John celebrates it by listening to the universe, including a couple country stars. He also fell in waders, broke the leaf blower, and nearly flooded his yard. He did not give a dog bacon.
John puts a pin in the Frozen Four, discovers the ultimate hangover cure, and shares a lesson from the over a dozen “Joe Jobs” he had growing up.
John decides a cowboy hat can change your life, is having a wild week filled with family and college hockey and shares wisdom from one of the happiest m-effers around.
John wonders why we don’t approach ever day like opening day, encourages us to find our “created by” moments, and doesn’t know how to say “turn Left!” in Ukrainian.
John shares some vacation outtakes, Lyft stories, wisdom from a camera man, and wonders if Cheeto puffs are the superior Cheeto product.
John is on Spring Break (if he can still call it that), and vacation in Florida is a wonderful reminder to slow down, read a book, and not always be rushing to the tee box.
John eats lunches on park benches, has a few drinking mishaps, and dreams of learning dominoes and being able to ride a horse to the bar.
John collects some unapologetic wisdom from Big K’s brother, bets on NASCAR, and enjoys all that the State High School Hockey Tourney has to offer.
It’s State Tourney weekend and John wonders if he’s still a man if he can’t grill, takes inspiration from a hockey coach, and finally gets some appropriate pickleball attire.
John checks in with a friend from Boston, who breaks it all down: we only have so much time to have a good time. That means no more ticking the box. Plus, Kings of Leon are back and they’re greasy again.
John shares stories from his KC trip, reminds us to wear red on Valentine’s, and shares strategy from a highly competitive Super Bowl party. He somehow manages to offer us wisdom while staring down the barrel of a couple bags of miniature peanut butter cups.
John shares some wisdom from Bob Buford’s book “Halftime,” drinks sake, celebrates Stacey’s 50th Fortnight, enjoys the Grammy’s, and reminds us all that like Billy Joel says on his first new song in thirty years, it’s never too late to turn the lights back on.
SMCD celebrates 200 episodes, and Stacey turns 50. Wow! A lot to cover including a trip to Stewartville, the continued demise of the club sandwich, and wondering if guys shouldn’t go on walks alone.
John is enjoying the sound of two hands clapping, and hopes you are too. He sneezes from popcorn salt and visits a crowded steam room before sharing wisdom from his pilot brother and finding religion at the Opry.
John mixes up the format, sharing the wisdom of others, starting with Sweet Lou. He also got an electric blanket and is pretty sure the universe sent him a message via Willie Nelson.
John responds to some listener feedback on R-E-S-P-E-C-T, realizing sometimes the best response in today’s all too certain world is, simply, “maybe?”
