The theme of our September/October issue is Healing—a complicated task. physically, psychologically, emotionally. In some way, trauma finds its way into each and every one of our lives, and no one comes pre-programmed with a roadmap for how to overcome it. But with the help of our friends, family, our community, and professionals, we can start down the path toward feeling whole. This week’s guest is the subject of our cover story: Steven Medeiros. He’s an activist and advocate from the bay area who lost his leg to a motorcycle accident 17 years ago, and his mother to murder at age 12. He’s had a long, tough road to healing both physically and mentally from his past. And today, he uses what he’s learned in an attempt to help heal society at large, to push for much-needed criminal justice reforms, and to help prevent others like him from facing the same circumstances. (Stephen's Book Recommendation from the podcast: The New Jim Crow.)
The theme of our September/October issue is Healing — and on the latest episode of The Yoga Show we chat with Rae Johnson and Nkem Ndefo, leaders of an Embodied Activism Course from Embodied Philosophy. Drawing on neuroscience, somatic theory and practice, liberation psychology, trauma-informed and anti-oppressive education, and lived experience, the course examines practical strategies to reclaiming, resisting, and interrogating the political realities of our everyday lives using the felt experiences of our bodies as the groundwork for social justice—so we can come at personal and community healing from the inside out. Contact Rae through her website or through Pacifica Graduate Institute and Nkem through her website.  This episode of The Yoga Show is sponsored by Say Your Peace. This week we talk with Dr. Dean Radin, a parapsychologist and researcher of psychic phenomena at the Institute of Noetic Sciences. Radin has dedicated his career to understanding the effect of human consciousness on the physical world. From various Emoto-style water studies to Ganzfeld tests, both of which we’ll discuss in this episode, his often controversial research claims to demonstrate human ability to experience precognition, telepathy, and telekinesis.  His book, Supernormal: Science, Yoga and the Evidence for Extraordinary Psychic Abilities examines whether yoga and meditation can unleash inherent supernormal mental powers, such as telepathy, clairvoyance, and precognition.
