On today’s show, Tim welcomes Peggy Lee’s granddaughter Holly Foster Wells to the show. The Peggy Lee Estate recently announced Peggy Lee 100, a centennial celebration honoring one of the 20th century's most important musical influences in the world of jazz and popular music. Throughout 2020, the 100th anniversary of Peggy Lee's birth-May 26, 1920-will be commemorated around the globe with music releases, notable exhibitions, special events, programming and a host of tributes and concerts, including a just-announced Hollywood Bowl tribute concert on August 5, "Miss Peggy Lee at 100 with The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra." Holly discusses these upcoming festivities, as well as her personal memories of her grandmother. Tim also mixes in music, giveaways, and clips of past shows within the hour. Then, he finishes off the show with the Now THAT’S Punny segment. Tim’s producer Dani, who’s working remotely, rattles off some funny puns as Tim reacts from the studio with great sound effects. Make sure to tune in live weekdays 4-5pm ET on AM 560 WFIL!   Music ft: Smile (Sidewalk Prophets) The Folks Who Live on the Hill (Peggy Lee)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Jake Tapper (CNN Anchor & chief Washington correspondent) joins the Tim DeMoss Show today via Zoom regarding his new book Race Against Terror: Chasing an Al Qaeda Killer at the Dawn of the Forever War. The book tells the story of a man fleeing the Arab Spring on a refugee boat who surrenders himself to Italian authorities. He claims that, as a terrorist, he is responsible for the deaths of American soldiers. This unexpected surrender sets off an unlikely chain of events and one of the most significant, but little-known, cases in American history. Tapper, a Philadelphia native, also makes no secret of his Phillies and Eagles fandom and shares a story about an autographed Larry Bowa cap gifted to him via a character from the sitcom "Happy Days"... :) Aaron Nola (longtime Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher) also graciously spends time with us with a look at his baseball career (from Little League until now), as well as his family, faith in the Lord, and charity work (including Team Red, White & Blue which focuses on veterans' health & wellness and the ALS Association (Nola's uncle passed away from ALS several years ago)). A week ago, Nola closed out a challenging regular season with an 8-inning, 9-strikeout gem, allowing just 2 hits and 1 run in a 3-1 win over Minnesota and moved into 2nd place on the Phillies' pitchers all-time strikeouts list (behind only Phillies legend Steve Carlton). Our proverbial "cherry on the sundae"-- Now THAT'S Punny--caps off the show. Sports clips:Trea Turner (Philadelphia Phillies shortstop)Rob Thomson (Philadelphia Phillies manager)Sam Ersson (Philadelphia Flyers goaltender)Nick Sirianni (Philadelphia Eagles head coach)See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Today's show focuses on the home stretch of our September partnership with GFA World to help fund national missionaries throughout Africa & Asia. National missionaries are already physically in the countries they seek to serve (making it very cost-effective to send them) and typically know the language and customs, facilitating a quicker and more direct path in sharing the gospel. With deep reliance on the Lord and through fervent prayer, these dedicated servants plant churches and transform communities from the inside out, fulfilling the Great Commission by bringing hope to those in greatest need. Our station family goal is to sponsor 20 national missionaries; entering today, we're about halfway there, which we're very grateful for! A $540 one-time gift (or $45/month for a year) can cover the costs of one of the 10 missionaries remaining. Your prayers are appreciated as we close things out, and to help on any level (1 missionary, towards a missionary, or multiple missionaries) it's 866-659-7361 or by clicking here (where you can also see some of the national missionaries we're aiming to sponsor). Thank you so much from GFA World & WFIL!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
