It is well-established that health issues that appear on a physical level are often related to or even caused by unaddressed emotions and/or energetic imbalances. This is also true for high-risk HPV, abnormal Pap smears, and cervical and vaginal cancer risk. As humans, when we experience symptoms — a headache, a skin rash, pain, or HPV and an abnormal Pap result — we tend to think of them as occurring only on a physical level. But research has demonstrated that these health issues are related to emotional and spiritual, or energetic, levels as well. When there is an imbalance, trauma, or unaddressed emotional or energetic issue, it can absolutely influence us physically. So, when something shows up as a symptom or diagnosis, it may be related to something happening emotionally or spiritually. I've been working with thousands of cases for over 25 years, so I've had a great deal of opportunity to observe these connections. When a patient comes to me with an abnormal Pap smear, autoimmunity, migraines, or a skin rash, I begin by looking at physical imbalances — hormones, nutrient deficiencies, microbiome issues for example. But I've learned that it doesn't stop there. We also need to consider what's happening emotionally and spiritually, which brings us to the influence of stress and trauma on the human experience. In this episode I'm going to discuss the mind, body, spirit connection to health, and how recovery from stress and trauma can help eliminate or reverse health issues on a physical, as well as emotional, and spiritual level. Welcome to How Humans Heal. In this episode, I'm going to talk about blood sugar levels and how optimizing them can help you clear high-risk HPV virus to negative and get a normal Pap smear result. As you optimize your blood sugar, you're going to optimize your whole health because when we have optimal blood sugar, we have optimal immune function, optimal hormone levels, lower inflammation, and a healthier microbiome—both gut and vaginal. This means we can prevent cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and dementia while improving energy levels, sleep, focus, memory, and body weight. In this episode I'm excited to introduce you to Dr. Nicole Cain. She is a naturopathic doctor and author of a book called "Panic Proof: The New Holistic Solution to End Your Anxiety Forever", which is helping people understand anxiety and panic and emotional wellness, with tools available beyond what people might be hearing in standard mental health clinics. Dr. Nicole shares what drew her into this work. She talks about hitting her rock bottom moment, which so many people experience. It's that fork in the road where someone asks themselves if this is their story or if it's going to be something different. Her rock bottom moment involved continual trauma and panic and anxiety that was so somatically based in her body. It was like burning in her chest, restlessness, and involuntary muscle spasms in her arms. She wasn't sleeping, lost so much weight, and stopped having her period. She had to decide if this was her story or if it was going to be something different. Thank goodness she was able to find her way through that and discovered some really helpful tools and techniques. She got excited to share that with her patients, and they started getting better results. She started sharing it with her community, working with other counselors and doctors, and they started getting better results too. Then she started to look at the research, and it was supporting these discoveries. Now she's helping people who have tried everything to address anxiety and they are feeling hopeless. In this episode I'm going to help you understand your Pap smear and colposcopy results, particularly if you have an abnormality. Abnormal cells on the cervix are referred to as "dysplasia," and that means high-risk HPV (human papilloma) virus is active and now is the time to prevent it from getting worse. She's a certified fitness professional and menopause support practitioner known as the Vagina Coach. She helps women with their pelvic floor and vaginal health, and I'm so excited to get to talk about this with you today. Originally, Kim's work was focused on pregnant women with the intention of educating them about the pelvic floor before they gave birth because we know that pregnancy and childbirth do quite a number on the pelvic floor. Then it became clear that the postpartum recovery aspect was very overlooked. Women were being helped to prepare, but then they were sprinting back to the gym at one or two weeks postpartum. There was no recovery period that was even discussed. It just wasn't part of our culture. It's so unfortunate that women don't know that they need to do pelvic floor recovery exercises after birth. Many women need help with pelvic floor and vaginal issues and there's not enough help out there. First of all, we tend not to even talk about the vagina. We tend not to ask for help. Women go through a lot of pain and discomfort and don't even know that there is someone to ask for help with vaginal health issues. In today's episode of How Humans Heal I'm talking with Heather Aardema. She is the founder of the School of Living Lighter and is a Board Certified Decluttering Coach who helps people understand what's underneath the reason for clutter using a holistic approach. I'm so glad to have her here with us to help us understand what a different it can make and how to get started. Needing to declutter is quite common. I, myself have been going through a decluttering process the past couple of years while rebuilding my house, so I know firsthand how valuable it is. And I was talking to a patient the other day whose daughter recently went to college. She was experiencing "empty nest syndrome" and found herself looking around her home thinking "what is all this stuff doing here?" When we realize that our desk is piled with stuff and the drawers are overfilled, that's when we know we need to declutter. To some degree, it's part of the human experience because we're so busy keeping up with life. When we finally go through a change that allows us to take time to look around our space, that's when we realize that we have too much stuff and need to declutter. But what if all the clutter is having a negative impact on our health and out life? What if we become intentional about decluttering? What kinds of shifts could happen when we get to the bottom of the pile and create space? Heather shares that it can make a massive difference in our day-to-day life when we address our clutter. The clutter feels heavy, and it's not just a feeling. There's physiology to clutter. If we perceive it, our cortisol is going to go through the roof. Hi and welcome to How Humans Heal. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson, and in this episode I'm going to talk about how to take care of ourselves and our health during the holidays. Very often what I hear from people is that we hit a certain point in the year and then when the holidays start happening—no matter which country you live in and no matter which holidays you observe—the holidays can really throw off your healthcare routine. Next thing you know, months go by and you find yourself coming out of it thinking, "What just happened to me?" And you have to start all over again. I want to share some tips with you so that hopefully I can help you to change that pattern and even improve your health during the holidays. These same tips will help you if you're under stress of any type. A lot of times, if you're going through a point in your life where there's a lot of activity, extra things going on, extra demands emotionally and physically on yourself, that's when we tend to take care of ourselves LESS when we should be taking care of ourselves more. I want to encourage you that it is possible to learn to take care of yourself during times of stress. It's start with awareness and a willingness to observe ourselves. And specifically, a willingness to be gentle and loving with yourself instead of judging yourself or being critical or harsh on yourself. I'm here to help you! Dr. Patel is also the author of "The Glutathione Revolution: Fight Disease, Slow Aging, and Increase Energy." As a pharmacist, Dr. Patel has a wealth of wisdom and decades of experience. Dr. Patel has been a pharmacist for about eight years now, and before that he worked in a compounding pharmacy since 1993. Dr. Patel's interest in glutathione started from working in a compounding pharmacy where glutathione was the solution for many patients. Glutathione is that thing that takes work away from your body. If you're wondering whether stress, burnout, and cortisol have anything to do with why you have an abnormal pap smear and potentially abnormal cells, you're in the right place because that's exactly what I'm going to talk about here. I'm Dr. Doni Wilson, a naturopathic doctor, certified professional midwife, and clinical nutritionist. I've been helping women for over 25 years to resolve abnormal pap smears and high risk HPV so they can get HPV to negative and keep it negative. You don't have to be on the vicious cycle of repeat procedures and never-ending high risk HPV (human papilloma virus). Research shows that our immune system has the capability to clear high risk HPV to negative—all different types, including the 14 high risk types—no matter how long you've had it, your age, or when you were exposed to it. I've seen women from around the world who've been able to get rid of HPV, get a negative test result, and keep it that way. The approach I take is to look at it from the perspective of susceptibility. Here's the message I'll never stop sharing: if you're testing positive for high-risk HPV virus and experiencing vaginal infections like bacterial vaginosis or yeast infections, or maybe bladder infections, you need to pay attention. If you're waking up feeling tired and dragging through the rest of the day, reaching for caffeine every chance you get, your body is trying to tell you something. If you're having anxious thoughts racing through your mind, constantly thinking about this virus and what it could do and how it could ruin your life, you're not alone. If you're feeling constipated or bloated, or just like you're not digesting your food well, and you have a sense that something's off with your gut or your microbiome, listen to that. If your menstrual cycle is making you feel worse every time your period comes with cramping and bleeding, or maybe your cycle is irregular, or even if you're postmenopausal, these are all messages from your body. If any of these things are occurring for you, the last thing you should do is ignore the HPV, because everything I just described is literally your body begging for your attention to help it correct these situations in order to clear high-risk HPV to negative. Too often when women are dealing with health issues—whether menstrual-related problems, perimenopause, menopause, vaginal infections, recurrent yeast, BV, high-risk HPV, or abnormal pap smears—we're left without enough information. Women are experiencing fatigue, weight they can't seem to lose, autoimmunity, gut health issues, skin rashes, anxiety, depression, and migraines. I've been there. I've experienced these symptoms too. I know how difficult it is to get answers and to get real help. The standard medical approach, particularly for women's health issues, relies on very few test results. You can do a blood test, but the commonly ordered blood tests often don't include the tests that would provide the specific information we need to figure out the underlying issues. If you've been dealing with any kind of health issues and you've already been to the doctor's office, they've sent you home saying all of your blood work is normal and/or your vaginal culture is normal, or if you're dealing with recurrent bladder infections and the doctor says you can just keep taking antibiotics—to me, that's just not enough of an answer. If I haven't met you before, I'm Dr. Doni Wilson. I'm a naturopathic doctor, midwife, and clinical nutritionist. That means I was trained as a primary care provider for women's health, and I understand all of the guidelines of standard medicine. Yet many years ago I too was in the gynecology office with migraines, severe menstrual cramps, and high-risk HPV. I realized there has got to be more answers out there, and so I became a medical investigator for my own health but also for my patients.
