In 1985, interest in the gym increased when a film crew descended upon Knightstown, looking for a place to film Hoosiers. The movie told the story of the unique phenomenon known as Hoosier Hysteria — Indiana’s obsession with basketball. The gym provided the perfect setting. About one third of the film was filmed in the gym. As a result of the success of this film, the old Knightstown gymnasium came to be known as the Hoosier Gym. Lee Taft, known to most simply as “The Speed Guy”, is highly respected as one of the top athletic movement specialists in the world. In the last 30 years he has devoted the majority of his time training multi-directional speed to all ages and abilities. He has spent much of this time teaching his multi-directional speed methods to top performance coaches and fitness professionals all over the world. Lee has also dedicated countless hours mentoring up and coming sports performance trainers, many who have gone into the profession and made a big impact themselves. Since 1989, Lee has taught foundation movement to beginning youngsters and helped young amateur athletes to professional athletes become quicker, faster, and stronger. Lee’s entire philosophy is based on one of his most notable quotes, “Learning athletic movement correctly from the start is the foundation for athletic success.” With the release of Ground Breaking Athletic Movement in 2003, Lee revolutionized the fitness industry with his movement techniques for multi-directional speed. His innovative approach to training has impacted how athletic movement speed is taught. Lee brought to light the importance and fine points of the “Plyo Step”, “Hip Turn”, “Directional Crossover Step” and athletic stance. According to Lee, “Speed and agility done right is about making sure we marry the natural movements athletes have with effective and efficient body control to maximize speed and quickness”.

Kyan Brown was named an associate head coach on April 8, 2022. Brown comes to Omaha after serving as an associate head coach at North Dakota State for the last six seasons. Brown started with the Bison in May 2016 and made a name for himself as one of the league's top assistant coaches. With a winning record in all but one year, Brown helped the Bison post a 116-74 overall record and 62-34 finish in league play as an assistant. He helped guide NDSU to two Summit League Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament berths. Brown assisted in the development of the post players and focused on the team's academic performance. The Bison made the Summit League championship game four straight seasons with the help of Brown and finished in the regular season top-four each of those years. They earned NCAA berths in 2018-19 with a win over Omaha and in 2019-20 with a win over North Dakota. The Bison also earned the regular season title in 2019-20. Prior to NDSU, Brown served as a recruiting coordinator and assistant coach with Oral Roberts. Brown spent four years prior as an assistant coach at Missouri State from 2004-08, and he tipped off his coaching career as an assistant at Arkansas-Fort Smith from 2002-04. Brown played three seasons at ORU from 1998-2001. He appeared in 77 games making 34 starts. As a senior, Brown averaged 7.6 points per game and 6.3 rebounds per game.
