Season Six of you're listening to radio revel is a continuation of what I began last season with the overall theme called "Trailing edge of a generation".

Hey all.Walking among wheat fields with my mate, not sure what to talk about, got an idea, worked it up here.Kind of a "be good and you will be gooded upon" theme.Cheers!revel.Music: Theme: "NFLD" by Mr Smith Incidental: "Black top" by Mr Smith https://freemusicarchive.org/

Hello friends.Welcome back to "Fictional Interlude" here on "you're listening to radio revel". This week I begin reading a new story from the collection titled "Three", this time the story is "When Herb met Mable", a short written back in the '90s with a lot drawn from my own autobiography.Hope you all enjoy! The music links:Theme: "Big sky" by Mr Smith Incidental: "Nevermore" by Mr Smith "Sunday Solitude" by Mr Smith freemusicarchive.orgCheers!revel.
Hey all!Taking a break from the "Fictional Interlude" series here on "you're listening to radio revel" to make some comments about the use of words as tools of information.Getting just a little impatient with headlines like "video appears to contradict" instead of the straightforward "video contradicts" that we are subjected to every day. In a world where the knumb-skulls favor "telling it like it is" it is incredible just how little "telling it like it is" actually takes place in the public arena. So, just some "trailing edge" thoughts as we move into this new year of horror and hope.Cheers!revel.Music: Theme: "NFLD" by Mr Smith Incidental: "Black top" by Mr Smith https://freemusicarchive.org/"The briefing room"Canadian Prime Minister's Davos address: banned words list: Richard J Murphy "Delay now" video: Police are allowed to lie:

Or you can wait and binge the episodes.Thank you for tuning in. Hope you enjoy these stories. And the links:MusicTheme:"Big sky" by Mr SmithIncidental"Nevermore" by Mr Smith"Sunday Solitude" by Mr Smithfreemusicarchive.orgCheers,revel.
Hey all.Starting the new year with a quick explanation of the next phase here at "you're listening to radio revel", generally called "Fictional Interlude".Straying a bit from late baby-boomer comment, I've decided to share some fiction with you all, specifically three short stories I put together under the title "Three" back in the early days of Covid confinement (they have nothing to do with Covid, they were written decades earlier).Hope you enjoy the fiction.Cheers,revel.And, of course, the links:Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/
Here's a quick entry into 2026 with some commentary about my own transition into a state of frivolity that is actually far from frivolous, despite the title. And, of course, the links: Music: Theme: "NFLD" by Mr Smith Incidental: "Black top" by Mr Smith https://freemusicarchive.org/
Hey all.First part of season eight is coming to a close along with the year 2025.Just a few words about cameras in our lives and a heads-up on what to expect when you're listening to radio revel comes back online in January of 2026.And, of course, the links:Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Happy holidays!Cheers, revel.
Hey friends. This week I try to explain why I think we ought to turn off the juice on all those things that stimulate our outrage, our depression, our despair about current events on a national and international level. Well, I don't talk much about international, but since for me it's international....There are a lot of horrible things going on in the USA, but there are also a lot of cool things going on. I preach "resist through action", not just resist but make sure you are doing something good for your community despite what bigger fish may be doing to attach your community. And, of course, the links:MMusic:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Link to Tom Joad's substack article: https://joadt.substack.com/p/its-time-to-step-upThere's a sfx I have to attribute:Till With Bell.wav by Benboncan -- https://freesound.org/s/91924/ -- License: Attribution 4.0You can listen on Spotify, here's my channel (Spotify won't give me a link until the episode goes live, truncating my ability to plan automatic stuff or upload information in anticipation.... argh!): https://open.spotify.com/show/4JGaxcumeNGOm1XFQairyT?si=cvhy158iQr-SLFdIqskqLgYou can read the post on substack: https://open.substack.com/pub/revelarroway/p/s06e07-zanjar-put-it-behind-you-and?r=5dhw68&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=trueCheers!revel.
Hey all.The call to action is in the title.Don't spend money on Black Friday.Don't buy stuff this holiday season.Voting is fine and dandy, but once they're in office it looks like they end up doing whatever their "wealthy doners" expect them to do. If you are not a "wealthy doner" then you can not expect them to do anything for you (unless you happen to want the same thing the "wealthy doner" wants, which is often not the case!).You can, however, keep money from reaching those "wealthy doners" by not spending money at the places or on the days that "wealthy doners" have programmed for you to spend. You don't have to wait for some "election day" to make yourself heard. Think about the Jimmy Kimmel thing. Don't give them your money and they will slowly but surely have less money to spend on putting those in office who will then do their bidding. It's a long, hard, slow road, but it is something that you can do EVERY SINGLE DAY to resist. If you want to.And, of course, the links:Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Season Three, Episode 11: "Who ate the bourbon balls?"
Hey all.The whole thing about old people has been on our minds for a few years. All the stuff about Biden being too old to run for a second term, being too old to even handle his only term. Now we're on the "senile" / "dementia" track with the current holder of that office. What's a mother to do?This week a look at aging people taking care of their aging parents. Some reflections from 40 years ago, some current reflections, even a little bit of advice for those who might be handling "difficult" elderly parents. And, of course, the links:Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Remembering Grandma Pearl" from Season Three:And, I used these windchimes briefly:Wind chimes 3 (quiet) by giddster -- https://freesound.org/s/437335/ -- License: Creative Commons 0Cheers!revel.
Hey all. This week a look at letter writing in the early 1990s, back when we were still mostly using pens and paper and envelopes and postage stamps. Back when we checked the mailbox everyday and got that little rush when a letter was in there waiting for us.But also a look at motivations for having moved from the USA to Spain. Not a lot, but some insights. And, of course, the links:Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/And links to those few chapters of "Exile" I recorded back in season four:The man was walkingHe was walking slowly If he were deadHe hadn’t wanted toAlong the seaThanks for listening!Cheers, revel.
Hey all!Taking a look at an older video I made back in 2017 in which I talk about the then Trump Administration Reality Show setting new standards for public discourse, standards that seem to have settled in now eight years later.Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Clips:ABC: The View 6/17Fox: Fox News 6/17ABC: Good Morning America 6/17White House Press Briefing 29/06/17MSNBC: Morning Joy 7/17CNN: CNN Newsroom 11/15FOX: Fox News 7/17President-elect press conference 1/17"Intrepid"Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com)Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 3.0http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/https://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/licenses/My country tis of thee US Coast Guard BandTrump sets the tone:
Hey all.New improvisation, this time inspired by recent "free speech" activity over there in my birth country, but not really about "free speech", maybe about free things, maybe about how we're being made to pay for stuff, no, not stuff, let's say "services" that we hardly use.Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Other links:S03E07 How I found out my father had died John Deere article Bulwark clipCheers!
Hey all!A little rough around the edges, my first full improvised episode in which I talk about our tendency to follow, to drink the Kool-aid without asking beforehand what flavor it is, what brand it is, how much sugar has been added to the pitcher, just sip at it and enjoy. Here are some links that might be interesting for you:Music:Theme: "NFLD" by Mr SmithIncidental: "Black top" by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/Joe Rogan / Jesse Welles interview: Jesse Welles Youtube:Parkrose Permaculture YouTubeCheers!revel.
Hey all!Just a short "back to school" episode to jumpstart Season Six of you're listening to radio revel, the Trailing edge of a generation series.Scaling back a bit, just bi-monthly episodes, no scripting, no transcripts, just this late baby boomer talking about things that mostly baby boomers are going to get, but that other generations should be getting. It's not too late in the game....This episode is the audio of a video I made for the you're listening to radio revel YouTube channel, under the playlist called Trailing edge of a generation. Go watch that video if you want to see what those strange noises are under my improvising the episode.Cheers to all and thanks for listening.Listen, like, subscribe and, most importantly, share!revel.
Hey faithful listeners!Yes, it's summer and I'm on a summer break but still producing the stray episode here and there when the vegetable garden and the remarkably high temperatures allow me to.This week, the first of perhaps several episodes talking about the TV mini-series titled "Adolescence". There are spoilers, so you'll want to have seen the show before you listen to my comments.Hope you all are having a quiet and not-too-hot summer this year.Cheers,revel.Script and narration by revel arrowayMusic:Theme: NFLD by Mr SmithIncidental: Black top by Mr Smithhttps://freemusicarchive.org/On YouTube
