⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | The best way to tell if somebody’s a homeschooling mom is by showing her these memes about curriculum and then watching her response. Starting the school year excited, and probably trying to do too much, but then struggling halfway through, and having unfinished curriculum at year’s end (which is why you homeschool all summer). The temptation to unschool because it would be easier. Counting extracurricular activities as curriculum. Having strong feelings about popular programs like Abeka, or Saxon math. Here’s some encouragement if sometimes you don’t feel like you know what you’re doing: curriculum is important, but it’s not the most important thing. And you may not feel like you’re doing everything right, but you ARE doing the right thing.

It’s full of incredible songs you’ve probably never heard of before, but people automatically think of old people, or grumpy negative people. The Bible says to sing hymns AND spiritual songs (basically traditional and contemporary styles) but people act like it’s only one or the other, and they even get ugly and have big church fights about it. ⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | In this tutorial I’m going to show you how to use this hymnal to sing hundreds of hymns you’ve never heard before to melodies you already know, like Amazing Grace. Go to the Melodies chapter, and you’ll see lists showing which melodies are interchangeable. The famous ones are underlined. This works because of meter, the number of syllables per line. The three most common are Common Meter, Long Meter, and Short Meter. And the D means it’s doubled. They're holy, just, and true, and that we should keep all 10, including the Sabbath. We're blessed when we do them (that's from the Bible!) Those who obey them are the greatest. The Law points us to Messiah, and he points us back to the Law. The Law is established and changeless. And Messiah is writing it on our hearts. ⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | Here are five ways to tell if you’re a weird homeschooler (and I’m an authority on this because I was homeschooled.) #1: If you basically just stare at people when you’re out in public but then at home you’re the life of the party. #2: When you’re not in your PJs you’re running around in costumes and you basically live in a make-believe world. #3: You court instead of dating but nobody knows exactly what that is, including you. #4: You never went to prom, or if you did, it was with a sibling. And you don’t even know what homecoming is and you wouldn’t have gone anyway because you wanted to stay home and read. #5: You call your teacher “Mom”, and the only reason she thinks you’re normal is because she’s a little weird herself.

⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | As homeschoolers we like to make fun of ourselves sometimes. One of our favourite topics is how weird we are. Like when you tell someone you’re homeschooled and they’re like “oh, you’re homeschooled!” but then inside they’re like “you’re so weird!” Or they’re thinking “but you’re so normal!” if you’ve managed to trick them into thinking you’re normal. The reality is, we don’t care about being normal. And even if we did it wouldn’t really help. The only thing we know is to be our weird selves.

⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | Have you ever noticed how similar government schools are to prisons? Same buses. Same cafeterias. Same food. Same outdoor enclosure. Same activities. Even the halls look the same. Should we be surprised when our kids say school feels like prison? What’s the real reason the USA is the most incarcerated nation in the world? What if our children are being prepped for jail more than they are for real life? People worry that homeschooled kids aren’t getting enough socialization. But what if the real danger is that our kids are getting indoctrinated? Maybe it’s time we started calling public schools what they are, government indoctrination centers. The real experiment is whether the government can replace parents, and it’s failing. Some of us aren’t comfortable with people we don’t even know raising our kids. So we’re taking that responsibility back, taking our kids back. Because homeschooling is the original normal.

⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | One objection to homeschooling is that your kids might not fit in. But what if that was a good thing? Kids are forced to conform at school. If they don’t, they’re pressured and punished by their peers. What if the reason homeschooled kids don’t fit into the box is because they’re free enough to not care? Homeschooled kids aren’t good at raising their hands before they speak. But what if that also means they’ll be less likely to raise their hands to the wrong cause? They may not be good at sitting still and being quiet. But what if that’s what makes for the kinds of outspoken activists who can make a real difference? Homeschoolers value freedom – from government interference yes, but even more importantly, freedom to just be ourselves. We’re not raising our kids in isolated fishbowls – we’re raising them to swim free in the ocean of the real world.

⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | What if we shouldn’t be so worried about homeschooled kids getting socialized as we should about the kids locked in a classroom every day with a bunch of kids their exact same age? Homeschooled kids aren’t taught to see the world through the artificial lens of peer groups; they learn to relate to everybody the same. What could be more important than learning to navigate the most important relationships, the ones that last for life: family? Most of us took that for granted until 2020 when we were forced to stay home with our families. The lockdowns were a wakeup call as people realized just how dysfunctional their closest relationships actually were. Meanwhile, for homeschooling families, it was mostly business as usual. School doesn’t teach you how to have healthy relationships. But doing life with your family will, boom or bust!

⭐ Write a quick five-star review? |Homeschooling is about giving your kids a real life education. Some people worry homeschooled kids aren’t getting socialized, but since when was that the point of school? And is that really the kind of socialization you want for your kids? Basically just staring at your phone? Homeschooling isn’t ‘honey I shrunk the school’, it’s a totally different approach to education, a real life approach. Because, wherever you are, the purpose of school is education, not hanging out with the same roomful of peers all day, every day.

⭐ Write a quick five-star review? | Some people worry that homeschooled kids won’t get socialized – meaning they won’t have any friends, as if school was the only place where social interactions could happen and anything outside of that is basically solitary confinement. It really comes down to definitions. If socialization is dumping a bunch of kids together in fake environments with no parents around, almost like Lord of the Flies, then yeah, hard pass. That’s not socialization, that’s exposure - and sending your kids into those situations is irresponsible. Homeschooling is about intentional socialization, doing intelligent stuff, with safe children, the kinds you’d want your kids to be more like, with the parents around. Who’s really getting the better deal?

Not having to sit at a desk. Doing your schoolwork in bed. Wearing your pajamas all day long. Sleeping in. No cafeteria food. Not having to raise your hand to talk. Doing multiple days of work in one day. And still only having a three-hour school day.
