In this Podcast we had an honest discussion with one of Melbourne's leading figures in the Specialty Coffee Industry, David Makin. Dave himself is a two time Australian Barista Champion and came second in the World Barista Championship. He and his wife Zoe started Axil Coffee Roasters in 2010, since then they have opened 15 stores and have developed an impressive wholesale division. This year they began to expand, which has hit a significant hurdle with Government imposed Lockdowns that have crippled Victoria's hospitality industry. Like most business owners in Melbourne right now, Dave has expressed his thoughts on how we could better transition from lockdown and why hospitality is better equiped than most industries to keep customers and staff safe. We hope you enjoy this podcast. As always, stay cool!
This week coffee took the back seat a little bit. With everything going on in Melbourne we wanted to stay positive, so spoke to a former customer of ours, Wil Anderson! Some might be surprised that Wil is a bit of a coffee lover and consumes more than anyone we have ever met. We talk about the close relationships hospitality and the arts have and how they influence Melbourne's overall culture. Hope you all enjoy. As always, stay cool!
In this week's podcast Kirk finally gets to interview one of his favourite coffee professionals, Dale Harris! Dale won the World Barista Championship in Seoul in 2017 with a though provoking and science driven routine, which successfully conceptualised the origins of coffee flavours we experience in the cup. Both Kirk and Dale have the capacity to talk the legs off the chair and go on many tangents, so we do hope you can sit down and enjoy the soothing sounds of Dale Harris voice. Before listening to this podcast we do have some HOMEWORK for you. The link in our bio (instagram) is to Dale's winning routine. Before listening to this podcast we encourage you to watch that routine so you will be able to enjoy the contents of the podcast more. As always everyone, stay cool!
