#107: This is going to be another segment of the unofficial What Can I Do With My Life series.I have a few of these where people come on and talk about their jobs; what it entails, how to become it, what it can offer you, etc.If you are a good writer, this episode may be particularly interesting to you.I am speaking with Karthik Vijayakumar who is a copywriter. He has the great ability to write convincing sales pages for products that get the reader to convert and buy the product. He also teaches you how to do this through his online courses. In a world of cynicism and guardedness, inspiring someone to take action through words is a great skill! So listen in and see if this could be something that would allow your good writing skills can pay off for you!Show notes can be found at: howtolife.com/107 Support the showThanks for listening! We are continuing on talking about business. If you have your own business or want to start one, even as a side hustle, everyone could use a little support. Today’s topic is about using YouTube for your business. So many of us use social media these days -mostly socially. And it seems easy and self-explanatory. Right? Seems like everyone can do it.If you know, you know. But if you don’t, then this episode may help you out.I am speaking with Itai Nusbaum, who started a youtube channel called Pocket teacher. He provides educational content to help Israeli students pass their standardized exams. His channel has become so popular that he has reached over 10% of the country. 10% of the country knows who he is and recognizes his face. That is a lot of people! He has just recently founded a new consulting business called YouTube Tool Kit where he consults and guides businesses on how to utilize YouTube to promote their own businesses. And he is here to share some tips to help you get started with your own channel or help your existing channel be better.Show notes can be found at:howtolife.com/106Support the showThanks for listening! You are about to hear an interview with MV Braverman who is here to talk about how to reach out to someone you don’t know and…ask. You know, “the ask”.Whether it is a sales call, or you would like to inquire about working for them, or working for their company, making a “cold-call” can be an unpleasant and intimidating situation. But it is a tactic that is still used today by many companies to try to get leads or sales, so it does still work. How, though? The key is finding out how to get your foot in the door. There are things you can do, and steps you can take, to make this process more successful for you and less threatening to the stranger you are trying to engage with. This is Networking 101 with MV Braverman. You will probably find a little gem in this interview that will help you out.Shownotes can be found at:howtolife.com/105Support the showThanks for listening! Click my LinkTree to find me everywhere!
We are continuing on with the theme of being in business for yourself. In the last episode, we talked about how to know when it is time to switch jobs. If that hit home and you are thinking about trying to create your own online business or your own side hustle, I have some help here for you. Trudy Rankin, from Online Business Lift Off, is here to talk about how to get started and how to find the help you need to do it right the first time. A lot of people, me included, tend to freeze when starting something new because we don’t know where to start or who to ask for help. This interview is going to help you.You can follow this formula and start off correctly, and save yourself a lot of wasted time and energy.Show Notes at: howtolife.com/104Support the showThanks for listening! How do you know when it is time to switch jobs?Have you ever asked yourself this question?Today we are talking about job satisfaction. Not so long ago, the way people approached their jobs was often... stoically. They had a job, it provided sustenance, and that is just what they did every day for 40 years whether they liked it or not. These days, that attitude has changed. And perhaps it is because it is so much more possible to work for yourself with all that the internet can provide for you. Finding jobs is easier. All sorts of creative jobs are possible. But even so, there is still the mindset of settling for less than what you want or accepting dissatisfaction because of fear or apathy.Or confusion; just not knowing how to go about it.I would like to bring a little clarity about this topic:  How To Know When It Is Time To Switch Jobs.Today, I am speaking with attorney-turned-career coach, Jeremy Cline. He is the host of the podcast, Change Work Life, and he coaches clients on how to do just that. If you are feeling that it might be time for a change, this episode will help you identify the signs and give you the guidance to do it.Show Notes are at:howtolife.com/103Support the showThanks for listening! Today, Tony Bacigalupo is my guest and he and I will be talking about how to make friends and socialize better.Tony is a master at bringing people together. He started Manhanten's first co-working space and discovered how fun it is to bring people together and watch how friends and relationships are created. He has been helping people start co-working communities all over the world since 2007.Do you feel you have sort of lost your groove? You are not alone! It is true that we have recently emerged from quarantine and for sure there is this thing that some people have called the loneliness epidemic. And that it is a major problem affecting a lot of people in the world right now.We feel lonely because we think we don't have friends or a great support group. So how do we break out of that shadow and start being social? Either again or for the first time?Tony is here to offer some things that he has learned and done himself, to help kind of break down the barriers that make it difficult for us to find our people.Show notes can be found at:howtolife.com/102Support the showThanks for listening! In the last podcast I published, Episode 100, I told you that I would be taking a break. And at the time I said it would be two or three weeks.Well, that has turned into three months, but I needed it. So this episode, Episode 101 of the HOW TO LIFE podcast is called, It Is Okay To Take A Break. And it is. Sometimes you need it.What happens if you don't allow yourself that time? Something's going to happen where you will be forced to take a break. So I want to kind of give you some guidance on how to avoid that, how to get out in front of it, and how to recharge so that you can put your best foot forward in the future. For me, it was the last three years of taking on too much and pushing a little too hard. It was a good reminder for me and I can now teach you about it.I'm at a point in my life where I am pretty in tune with my body. I know what works for me. I know what happens if I don't listen to it. I want to share with you some signs that it might be time for you to take a break.I would like to alleviate some of the fears and reasons people give as excuses not to take a break. We will talk about all the good things that DO happen when you take a break and some ideas to help you maximize your downtime. It's not a sign of weakness to take a break. It's actually very smart and it takes strength to do it. And once you start doing it and start recognizing the benefits of it, you will never settle for less again.Make sure to listen to the entire audio portion on your favorite podcast platform. You can watch a bit of the video podcast on YouTube. If you would like to watch the entire video podcast, please join my Patreon for this and other goodies!Show notes: howtolife.com/101Support the showThanks for listening! #100- Welcome to my party! I am celebrating 100 episodes of helping you learn How To Adult! We are all on this adulting journey together, and I am not the only one with information to share.  In this episode, I want you to know that we are all striving, learning, overcoming, and achieving throughout our lives. Everyone is. You can never know it all. But we live in a time where it is so easy to learn, teach and share, and I think that because of that we have the potential to self-actualize faster than ever before. My whole platform is to make you feel okay about where you are right now and give you some information that might help you.So over the last few weeks, I have been asking you, the audience, a few questions about where you are on your adulting journeys. Four questions, actually. So in sharing them, I hope that you hear something that resonates with you. Or that you will realize that you are not the only one who is having some trouble at the moment. Or you might discover something that you didn’t even consider or you learned something unexpected. And of course, I want you to recognize and celebrate when you have accomplished something that you were afraid of and be proud of yourself! Acknowledge that win.Show notes at:howtolife.com/100Support the showThanks for listening! Click my LinkTree to find me everywhere!
#99- This is another one of my NO-Fear episodes because we are going to break down the concept of credit cards, explain their many benefits, really highlight the potential downside, explain how and why so many people get into credit card debt, and how to avoid that.It really just comes down to understanding how this tool works. And who better to explain this than Reid Garcia. Remember, Reid? I interviewed him back in Episode 46 talking about how to prep your kitchen so that you can feed yourself - another huge life skill. On that show he summarized his course, Kick Start Your Kitchen, which is catered to the beginner all the way to the advanced cook, as well. Reid is the founder of Helpful For Life and also teaches life skills that you may have missed earlier in your life. We all have some holes in our adulting arsenal and I think Reid and I make a pretty good team in helping to fill some of those. He is here today to talk about his latest helpful creation called, "Swipe Right: the comprehensive guide to getting the most out of your credit card use".Let's unravel the mystery of credit cards!Show notes can be found at:howtolife.com/099Support the showThanks for listening! #98_ Today we are talking about the benefits of EMDR therapy. We are talking about mental health and how to overcome things that may be holding you back from being the best version of yourself. There are many ways to achieve good mental health. There are many different types of therapies. Different things work for different people.I would like to offer this other therapy that you may not have known about. I didn’t know much about it before this interview. It is called EMDR therapy and it is incredibly effective.Rotem Brayer is a certified EMDR therapist and the founder of The Art and Science of EMDR, a platform designed to educate EMDR therapists. And he is in private practice in Denver, Colorado as well.He is here to answer my questions about EMDR. This is a very good summary that will help you learn more about, it and see if it is something you might want to pursue. You never know, this could be the answer you have been looking for.Show Notes at howtolife.com/098Support the showThanks for listening! #97 - Today’s topic is about how to face the fear of change. Things are always changing. They have to so that we can grow and expand. Honestly, you would be pretty bored if you didn’t shake it up once in a while.Change can be exciting but the unfamiliar is definitely uncomfortable at first. And sometimes, that discomfort may be so bad that you kind of get stuck and stay in what is familiar because at least it is familiar. There are ways to get past the fear of change.Michelle Pontvert is here today with some advice and strategies that you can use to overcome the blocks. They are simple tips that you can definitely follow so that you can enjoy the journey to your new adventure!Show notes at: howtolife.com/097Support the showThanks for listening! #96 - Today we are talking about SELF CARE.That’s right. Putting yourself first. Looking out for number one. Creating boundaries. Ooooh, that feels uncomfortable, doesn’t it? It sounds so…selfish. To be selfish is considered a negative trait. We have put it in our heads that if we have responsibilities to others and we take some time for ourselves we are being selfish.I would really like to change this perspective. And perhaps this can be best done by describing the action of taking some time for ourselves as SELF CARE instead of selfish.Selfish is not caring about anyone else but you.Self Care is about taking care of yourself first so that you are in the best position to care for others. My guest today is Janine Kenna cohost of the Kind-Hearted Badass Podcast and community. She agrees with me and she and her partner are on a mission to empower everyone to nourish their souls and fuel up. When you are out there giving your all, working hard, solving problems, leading, and caring for others; when the demands on your time are stretched, and that is most of us, you must take care of yourself. You stop and fill up your car tank is on empty. Why wouldn’t you do this for yourself?Did you ever think of it that way?In this podcast, Janine will share her message and give you some tips so that you can do it too!Show notes can be found at:howtolife.com/096Support the showThanks for listening! #95- Parenting a special needs child is a skill that you really cannot train for.No matter how much you try to prepare for adulthood, there are some things that can really throw you for a loop. One of those things is parenthood. That is hard enough. But a whole new set of challenges that you may be facing now is being a parent to a special needs child. But like anything where you are completely in the dark, there is always a light that will help you find your way. And it is my hope that this episode will give you some guidance and support if you are facing this challenge or you want to help someone else who is.My guest today is Wayne Pellitier, the creative director of the branding and web design company Resonant Pixel.Wayne is the father of a child with Malan Syndrome and he talks honestly about the emotions and experiences of having a child with special needs. He also speaks of the community and resources that are available, and how to find what you need. And of course, the many blessing that a child, neurotypical or special needs, brings to your life and this world. Show notes at:howtolife.com/095Support the showThanks for listening! #94_ The topic today is not one that is usually talked about. I don’t know why, but there is not much out there about it. Today we are talking about how to settle into a new community. This could be moving to a new country where you will experience perhaps a new language, new culture, homesickness. This could also be beginning a new job, going away to college, or even starting a new school or moving to a new neighborhood. It is usually a bit more difficult than you thought with plenty of discomfort, and feeling out of your element. It is hard to adapt to a new place where you don’t know anyone and no one knows you. It is hard to be an outsider. The unfamiliar is uncomfortable. How do you ask for help about this? Is what you may be feeling normal? Is it really a thing?Trudy Rankin is an online business coach in Australia, but she is originally from the Pacific Northwest. She grew up constantly moving as a child and had to learn how to adapt and fit it quickly. She has been in Australia for 30+ years now, but she knows well the feeling of overwhelm and loneliness when you are the new kid on the block. In this interview, she would like to help out those who may be feeling the discomfort of culture shock while setting into a new community.Don’t be sad, you’re not alone and you will be okay.Show notes at:howtolife.com/094Support the showThanks for listening! #93 - Last week’s show was about how to fail successfully, meaning that failure often leads to success.  It is just a learning experience. You don’t really know that until some time has passed and you look back and realized that you are where you are because of those past failures and experiences. It often makes you wiser, more resilient, and humble.  These are all good things.Today we are continuing on along the same vein.  This podcast episode is for anyone who is taking the long and winding road through life. It doesn't mean you are lost or will wander forever.I am speaking with Jeff Gargas who is the successful COO of the Teach Better Team which supports and helps teachers increase student engagement and success. It took him some time to get there. This talk is about his journey, but it also about searching, wandering, and yes, failing. It is about reflecting on the experiences in your life, finding meaning in them, and discovering the common denominator behind them. It was through his own experiences that Jeff discovered the common theme; he enjoyed helping others. That was his purpose and he turned that purpose into a very successful business. If you are wandering or feel lost right now, you will be happy to know that nothing is random and you ARE on your way. Show notes at: howtolife.com/093Support the showThanks for listening! #92 _Living gracefully is so much easier when you are succeeding and everything is going well in your life. It can be a little challenging when you hit some bumps. And it is damn near impossible when you have failed. I won’t sugar coat it; failure sucks! The emotions and the feelings of worthlessness, self-pity, heartbreak - they are all real, and they are valid. But as hard as it is to believe at the moment, it can be, and often is, a wonderful opportunity to grow and succeed.I’ve failed. I have failed big time. Most everyone has. And if it has happened to you, and you are currently licking your wounds, it is my hope that the words you are about to hear will soothe you. Stephan Brezinsky is an entrepreneur who has failed a few times and used the rubble as stepping stones to create his now successful media and marketing business. This is his story of loss to triumph. He talks about the messy middle and honestly answers my questions about the emotions, the aftermath, and how and why he got up and kept going. If you have comments or questions or if Stephan can help you with anything, please feel free to contact him.You can find his contact information, and access or share this episode, in the show notes:howtolife.com/092Support the showThanks for listening!
