We have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit that remains. Jesus declared this promise over us as an unconditional blessing, which is given to us as one of the benefits of living in the New Covenant. When we trust in the unfailing love of God, every season of our lives will be a season of fruitfulness. Fruit in the Kingdom of God might look different throughout different seasons, but what will never change is God´s promise to us that we are to bear lasting fruit through His grace! One of the most important and common ways in which Jesus speaks to us is through the counsel and wisdom of His body. The truth is that we all need wise counsel and mentors who can help us to grow in Christ and point us to the love of the Father. The problem is that a lot of people have been hurt and abused by allowing the wrong people into their lives. Others have never found anyone that has the wisdom to mentor them. Building a life in the secret place with our Father is a question of the heart. When we practice spiritual disciplines like prayer, fasting, bible study or soaking prayer, it is never to change God or earning a more favoured identity in His eyes. It is all about us being transformed so that we can abide in the love of Christ and live out of our identity as our Father´s beloved children. Our Father longs to build a deep relationship of intimacy and trust with us in the secret place. When we respond to His invitation, the Father promises to reward us. This is not a calling to religious striving, because the heavenly reward system operates only by grace where everything is given as a gift to us. We are actually rewarded for what Jesus has done and is doing, both within our hearts and through our lives. Jesus does all the work and we reap the benefits of what He is doing. The highest form of prayer is to practice abiding in the love of Christ. There we find healing, rest and peace, but even more important is that by abiding in Christ, we minister to the heart of the Father and delight His heart. Jesus is always present with us, but when we practice soaking in His love, we become present with Him as well. This is how we can live in experiental union with Christ.
