She’s so confident in everything that she does, that she isn’t afraid to pee in her pants. Just in case you think you mis-heard that, our guest on today’s episode talks about how she peed her pants. That said confidence coupled with a relentless work ethic and ambitions have led Chelsea Mandel to massive success by anyone’s standard. Not bad for our first ever guest to join us in their 20’s… as a co-founder and managing principal of Ascension, Chelsea has done over 1 billion dollars in sale leasebacks and investment sales in just a few years. And because I felt compelled to remind you earlier in this introduction that she peed in her pants, it’s only fair to remind you that Chelsea isn’t even 30 yet.Anyone who knows Chelsea or has even heard about her can quickly conclude that she’s an absolute bad ass. With that in mind, we can’t wait for you to enjoy our conversation now.
If you are wondering what a prototypical path looks like for someone who wants to be an influential leader on the retailer side of commercial real estate, you have come to the right place.Jeff Morrow, who now serves as the Vice President of Real Estate for the entire country for Burlington stores, flawlessly executed on learning the business, performing in different roles with different size companies and leveraged his rolodex of relationships perfectly to get to where he is today. And just like the majority of our other guests on the show, his career path certainly entailed a major curve ball… To hear how he navigated potential disaster, how we rose to the top of the retailer food chain and more, check out my conversation with Jeff Morrow, right now.
Whenever you have the opportunity to hear a story that entails someone starting at a company as an intern, with 4 other people to owning the company with well over 100 people across 9 offices, it’s safe to assume there is some serious value and wisdom offered up.Bryan Anderson’s rise to the top of not only Atlantic Retail, but retail commercial real estate as a whole makes for a great story that we can’t wait for you to hear.Check out my conversation with Bryan Anderson, right now.
David Birdsall’s path to commercial real estate is certainly one that can be described as unconventional. His family dealt with tragedy in his youth, he was kicked out of college his freshman year and even served in the Army for several years.Yet today, he is the co-founder and Chief Investment Officer of Last Mile Investments, a vertically integrated, Cincinnati-based group that acquires unanchored retail properties across the country.David’s story is not only unique, but he tells it in a humble, while entertaining way with some incredible wisdom that we can all learn from. Here is my conversation with David Birdsall.

Karly Iacono is one of those people that you don’t need to have a personal relationship with to come to the determination that she is impressive. Even if you just listen to her articulate real estate concepts on her CRE Fast Five series or watching her interview someone on a “Secret Sauce” episode, you know Karly is quite talented. How she got to where she is today, as an SVP of Investment Sales at CBRE, is a fascinating story that involves coordinating saving lives in the Hudson River to ensuring that there isn’t a missing comma in a litigation document.Karly’s multi-industry background leads to a great story for today’s episode, and we hope you enjoy it!
Limitless with Daniel Taub

Limitless with Daniel Taub

You know the old expression about a good person where people say, “I’ve never heard anyone say a bad thing about that guy or lady?”When I think about all of the people that know Daniel Taub, which is a LOT, I mean this guy knows everybody in our business it seems like… it goes beyond not being able to find someone who can say something negative about him. As I reflect on all of our mutual friends and relationships in commercial real estate, he has a 100% hit rate of people saying nothing but great things about him.Considering he has some 27 years of experience in the industry that includes C-level positions like his current one as the head of the retail platform for North America at Marcus & Millichap, Daniel’s reputation combined with his accomplishments make him an ideal guest to kick off season 3 for us.Without further ado, here is my conversation with Daniel Taub.
You know when you meet someone who is super impressive and you say to yourself, “man, that person has what it takes to be successful.”The person who carries themselves with perfect combination of a vibrant personality that people naturally gravitate toward, yet, they are extremely persistent in obtaining what they want and also possesses high levels of intelligence and skills to actually execute on whatever they are doing?I describe people in our business like that as dynamic. Today’s guest, Stacey Mooney, is dynamic. Her story is nothing short of incredible. She has been thrown major curve balls, made the most out of what the lionshare of the population would describe as “tough” situations and thrived in those challenging times. My conversation with her was a PERFECT way to end season 2, and I can’t wait for you to hear it.
We so often hear these clichés when getting career advice like, “follow your passion” or “do what feels right” and the classic, “get in with a company that is growing and ride the wave to the top.” Well, these cliches exist for a reason… Mark Heath joined a 20 unit chain in 1999 that was going to expand from Denver to Columbus, Ohio of all places. He believed in their mission, was willing to persevere through whatever came at him and built a great reputation along the way. That 20 unit, unknown chain is a company you may have heard of today… it’s the 3,000 unit, transformational concept to the restaurant business - Chipotle. Mark shares his personal journey of being an instrumental part of Chipotle’s success and I couldn’t be more excited to share our conversation with you now.
Flip or hold? Lease or buy? Tough negotiator or people pleaser? One thing we can all agree on our business is that retail commercial real estate has some serious personalities. I’ll be the first admit, I’m not exactly the shy guy in the corner. And as a result, some people just don’t like me… I mean anyone who has the audacitty to start a podcast, jeez, talk about an egomaniac! My point is that It's rare that you find someone who everyone likes in our business. With Nate Ohme, who heads up the real estate efforts for Great Clips’ 4,000 international stores, we have found that unicorn that everyone likes. With his humble personality stemming from his midwestern roots, Nate modestly tells his story on how he rose to the head of real estate at an industry leading retailer in less than a decade’s time. I hope you enjoy my conversation with Nate as much as I did, so here it is:
