I’m challenging you to assess your marketing plan with a series of questions to help you identify what’s working and where you can improve. With the busy season in full swing, it’s easy to feel like everyone’s booked except for you. So let’s dig in! I go through essential marketing questions, such as: What’s your marketing plan? Are you just following what others do, or do you have a clear strategy? Where and how often are you marketing? Are you diversifying your efforts with social media, email, SEO, and in-person events? Do you have a website, and how’s your SEO? Knowing where you rank and what keywords you’re targeting can be a game-changer. Are you confident in the service you offer and your pricing? Confidence plays a huge role in how you market yourself. Lastly, are you showing gratitude for your current clients? Often, we focus on what we don’t have and forget to appreciate what we do. Take this episode as an internal audit: write down these questions, reflect on your answers, and discover where you can fine-tune your marketing strategy. If you’re ready to dive deeper, I’m opening a photographer cohort this year for those looking to build solid marketing systems and scale their businesses. https://kyleeann.myflodesk.com/cohort
I’m sharing a few of my most cringeworthy photography mishaps to remind us all that even after 13+ years in business, mistakes happen! I hope we can laugh together, relate, and feel a little less alone because nobody’s perfect—even the pros make mistakes. I’ll dive into my top three most memorable photography fails. The first story might be familiar, but the third is a brand new one, and it’s one I thought I’d never share. From wardrobe malfunctions to forgotten gear, these stories showcase the reality that even seasoned photographers can find themselves in hilariously bad situations. The important thing is that we learn, grow, and hopefully only make these mistakes once. I also explore how these experiences have helped me build resilience and empathy for others in the industry. My hope is that this episode inspires a sense of community and reminds you that, no matter what happens, you’re not alone on this journey. We all stumble—what matters is how we get back up. And if you’ve had your own photography blunders, I’d love to hear about them! Share your stories with me on Instagram—I’ll post a question box, so we can all feel a little more connected and have a good laugh together. Thanks for tuning in, and remember: it’s all part of the process! http://instagram.com/kyleeann.maughan
In today’s episode, I’m diving into how to navigate the intense demands of busy season without burning out. Many of us are in the thick of it, facing long editing queues, endless to-do lists, and the weight of feeling overwhelmed. But with a few strategies, we can make it through more smoothly. Here’s what I’ll cover: Outsourcing: I know giving up control can be scary, but outsourcing tasks can be life-changing. From hiring a babysitter to delegating editing, freeing up your time allows you to focus on the things that matter most. I also share a tool, Imagen AI, which has revolutionized my editing workflow, letting me handle full sessions in minutes! Get 1500 free credits here: https://imagen-ai.com/?ref_id=770633171 Self-Care: This is non-negotiable. While it’s easy to let self-care slide, taking time for yourself can prevent burnout and make you more productive. Simple things like regular meals, hydration, and even a quick pickleball game or reading session can boost your mood and resilience. Raising Your Prices: Busy season is the perfect time to reevaluate your rates. If you’re overwhelmed with clients, it may be time to raise your prices. This allows you to work with fewer clients while still meeting your financial goals, reducing stress and preventing burnout. Prioritizing Family: Shifting your mindset to say "yes" to family can be powerful. When we choose our families over clients, it helps us create healthier boundaries and find a better balance in life. Blocking off family time on your calendar reinforces this commitment. Blocking Out Time: Using your calendar to block off time for yourself, family, and friends helps you maintain a healthy work-life balance. Scheduling non-negotiable time for self-care and family activities prevents you from feeling on-call 24/7 and helps you reset. Setting Boundaries: Learning to say no and setting clear boundaries with clients is essential. Not every client request has to be met, and sticking to your core services can save you time and energy. Saying no to work that drains you means saying yes to the work that fulfills you. If you’re ready to scale your business and regain control of your time, I’m launching a year-long mastermind to help high-level photographers grow their businesses sustainably. https://kyleeann.myflodesk.com/cohort I hope these tips help you survive this season and come out even stronger. You’ve got this! Thanks for tuning in, and take care of yourself this week. I’ll be back next week with more.
I’m back after some time away, with a renewed sense of clarity and direction. I recently attended a business retreat in Phoenix, and it helped me rediscover my passion for photography coaching and refocus on supporting photographers specifically. I dive into the challenges I’ve faced while juggling multiple roles, struggling to maintain balance, and working to clarify my business vision. Over the years, I’ve learned so much as a coach, mentor, and photography educator, and I’m excited to help photographers scale their businesses, avoid burnout, and reach new heights. This week we're chatting about avoiding common marketing missteps, like posting editing queues or venting about burnout online, and offer client-focused alternatives! I’m also thrilled to introduce a new project: a year-long mastermind for ten high-level photographers ready to grow their businesses, diversify income streams, and build systems that last. If you're interested, DM me on Instagram with the word “scale” to join the waitlist and start this transformation journey or join here: https://kyleeann.myflodesk.com/cohort This episode is all about gaining a fresh perspective on scaling a photography business, maintaining a positive brand presence, building supportive systems, and achieving a fulfilling work-life balance. Turns out you can have a MAGICAL summer with your family while still crushing it in your business. All it takes is a little bit of preparation. 1. Plan Ahead: Distinguish between working in and on your business. Prioritize working on it by preparing in advance for summer. Organize social media content, podcasts, and marketing efforts to stay ahead. 2. Put Summer Activities First: Structure work around family activities and vacations. Mark all summer events on your calendar first, then plan work around them for a balanced summer experience. 3. Create a Summer Bucket List: Make time for fun and family. Know what you want to do this summer to create a fulfilling life. Commit to your bucket list in your free time. 4. Outsource: Delegate tasks during the summer. Have support scheduling emails, managing social media, and handling photography tasks to maintain a healthy work-life balance. By following these strategies, you can enjoy a successful and fulfilling summer while keeping your business thriving. While the term is endearing and acknowledges the dual roles these women play, it somewhat undermines their professional stature. It's high time we change our vocabulary and give these industrious women the credit they deserve: CEO and Boss. Words hold immense power. They can shape perceptions and impact how people view themselves and their roles. By referring to mothers who run businesses as 'mompreneurs', or your business as a “side hustle” or “hobby” we may inadvertently diminish our professional accomplishments. Remember, the words you choose to describe your business should accurately reflect what you do and how you do it. They should also resonate with your target audience and help to differentiate you from your competitors. Tune in to the podcast to learn about the 8 words I use to uplevel my own business!

We all know it's not easy, stirring up emotions and causing sleepless nights. I've been there, and I want you to know that you're not alone in this sucky part of being a mom in business. In a perfect world, we wouldn't have to let anyone go, and nobody would ever leave. But change is inevitable, and it propels us ALL toward growth, even if it feels scary. When I shared my experience with other female business owners, I realized that many of them were silently struggling with the same dilemma. So, in today's podcast, let's break the silence and learn from each other.

After years of struggle, she's finally set off on a healing journey! I was so excited to bring Michon on to the podcast, because I think so many of us have struggled with similar things! We have hustled and hustled, and our health has suffered immensely even if it was completely unintentional.
