Happy Fall Folks! The boys are back with Chris' pick for the new season. Trigger warning...this episode discusses a film about suicide with real depictions of the events. It is the definition of difficult cinema. That film is Eric Steel's The Bridge. It's the first documentary to be tackled on Filmed Obscura, and boy does it deliver on the goods. It's unexpected, shocking and poignant. Please enjoy with caution and understanding.
Welcome to the end of summer folks. Booo that...but to help ring in your Labor Day weekend, the boys are back with the fourth episode of the new season. It was Justin's pick this time and he went with the original Japanese gore film: Jigoku (aka The Sinners of Hell). This film is arthouse to the max and may not be for everyone. Justin wasn't shy to note that he was NOT in the mood for it when they watched it on the very pretty Criterion disc, but it carries a gravitas ...
Folks! Folks! Holy hell. The boys just tackled a doozy of a picture. Oh boy. For episode 61, Chris brought out the infamous, cruel Spanish production of The Coffee Table. You've probably heard about it. Maybe you've seen it. It's something great. It's well done, well acted, shot beautifully, and shocking as hell. Find it now on Tubi because they spoil it. Let's say that again, there are SPOILERS in this episode. Go watch ...
Hallo meine freunde! The boys are back for the 60th episode of Filmed Obscura. As noted in the preamble, this will be our May episode since Justin dropped the ball and delayed the release. Sigh. Anyway, it's a fun episode where the gents tackle 80s synth rock, German exploitation cinema. This month's slice of enjoyment is Eckhart Schmidt's Der Fan. It's chock full of 80s goodness, rock entitlement, child grooming, and bone pulverizing. So grab your de...
Oh boy friends! The new season is upon us. Part 2 of the "Tougher to Watch" cinema is back and Justin is scared. Seriously, he's not ready for this. There have been too many easy, fun films in the past months that he went soft. Chris is ready to bring the heat and toughen him up again, and he's starting with Marian Dora. Oh boy indeed. This time, it's Dora's short segment in the anthology: The Profane Exhibit. Starting the season off right with a Mari...
The boys are finally back! Slight delays were recently afoot but the February episode is upon us (although it's dropping in March). This marks the final episode of season 7. Chris brought a solidly made, surprising and interesting film called Sator that everybody should see. The boys also give the listeners their top 5 watches of 2024 with honorable mentions. So that being said, go on and grab those leftover beverages from Valentine's Day, or crack open those bre...
Hohoho Filmed Obscura fans! Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and cheers to all. The boys are here with their special holiday episode for your listening pleasure. They brought back an MVP to the podcast as well as a new face to ring in the holiday season, and they are discussing Jesus. The torture of Jesus to be exact. That's right friends, the spotlight this year is Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ. What better way to celebrate Jesus' birthday than wi...
Happy December friends. The boys are back for another helping of awesome, somewhat obscure, movie fun. It was Justin's pick this month and he went with one of his FAVORITE films. His spirit animal...as he puts it. That film is Moorehead & Benson's Spring. Their wonderful follow-up to Resolution, and just a marvelous slice of indie cinema. It has love, monsters, meandering, conversations and Italian scenery for all to enjoy. So tune in with a nice ...
Hey everybody! As an added bonus, the boys put together a little Twin Peaks spotlight episode to discuss the wonders and craziness of Mark Frost and David Lynch's Showtime revival of Twin Peaks. Justin binged the hell out of it recently, and he just had to get his thoughts and questions out to Chris for analysis and perspective. We hope you enjoy it and Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
Happy Almost Thanksgiving friends! The boys are back after a little delay. Apologies are warranted because Justin and Chris had some scheduling issues that prevented them from recording and releasing the new episode in October. To make amends, they have the new one ready just in time for turkey day, and also have a little bonus Spotlight episode coming this month as well. For this gem, Chris brought a BANGER to the podcast. It's a "movie" for sure...and it's full...
Welcome back for the first episode of the fall season (technically). While there is no pumpkin spice to celebrate the episode, Justin brought a certified banger to the Filmed Obscura world. It's a film that he knew Chris would vibe on, and it's frankly one of the better religious cult movies in recent years. What movie you say? Why that is Riley Stearns' Faults. You guys don't want to miss this one. Grab those pumpkin spice brews and apple cider donuts friends. &...
Welcome back friends to Episode 54! The boys have had their appetizer for what's to come next season...and it was a doozy. Chris' pick this month brought the Filmed Obscura crew, and special guest Mr. Przebowski, back to the mysterious, disturbing, unusual, poorly lit and unnecessary world of Marian Dora. Yes, you guessed it. They watched the film he made before Melancholie Der Engel: Cannibal. It's a true crime slice of life with lots of nudity, uncomfortable er...
Welcome back for another slice of fun here at Filmed Obscura. Happy summer to all. The boys are back for another episode of randomness. This month, they had to audible because the special guest couldn't make the episode. In response, Justin stepped up for his next pick and brought some pure cinema gold. Don't fret, we will be doing Chris' pick next month guaranteed...with or without Mr. P. But for now, feast your ears on a movie experience that has serial k...
Welcome back to Filmed Obscura friends. Happy summer to all. Chris and Justin have another doozy of a film to talk about this month. It was Justin's pick this time, so he went with a more obscure John Carpenter joint...Assault on Precinct 13. It's one of Justin's personal favorites and, as you will hear, Chris rather enjoyed it. You will too so check it out. Cheers and enjoy!
Thank you for returning to the wonderful audio world of Filmed Obscura. Happy May and almost Memorial Day!! This month, Chris and Justin revert back to the trials and hardships of a previous season where they watched difficult cinema. Chris channeled that passion with his pick, but he also made the selection based on its link with our prior episode The Theatre Bizarre. Director Douglas Buck had a solid short in The Theatre Bizarre so Chris thought, why not do his other...
The Filmed Obscura boys are back with the second film of the new season. Justin picked this one for Chris and as you will hear, it worked out well. That film is The Theatre Bizarre. It's a scrappy anthology with varying segments. Some great, some not so much, but overall, the film is fun and surprising at points. Justin even had a change of heart about a couple of segments after this viewing. So go grab those refreshments friends...it's time to enter the Gr...
It's Season 7 time friends! Welcome back and thank you! The boys are picking obscure films that the other hasn't seen for the next ten episodes and they are super excited. Chris is kicking off this season with a solid Giallo film that borders on sleaze and intrigue. It's fun, exploitative (in a good way if that's possible), and mysterious. Solid banger to start off the season! What film say you? Why its the newer Vinegar Syndrome release of 5 Women fo...
Happy belated New Year Filmed Obscura friends, listeners and family! Justin and Chris are back with the final episode of Season 6 and it's a fun one. The season finale was Chris' opportunity to pick the last film and he didn't disappoint. Grab your headphones and get ready...because Skinned Deep is coming at you. Plates, Brain and the Surgeon General are ready for your earholes. Oh boy! Grab the beverages and get after it. Thanks for continuing this ...
Happy holidays to all from Filmed Obscura. To celebrate this merry time of year, Chris and Justin watched a doozy of a film. It was Justin's final choice for the season. Was it a Christmas movie? Of course not! Was it terrible? You better believe it! Was it fun? Ten four partner! What film is this? Why it's Champagne and Bullets. You haven't heard of it? Well that's about to change. So go ahead and start your holiday seas...
Happy New Yea...wait! What? It's almost Thanksgiving. So why are the boys doing a New Years movie? Because...why not! Welcome to Episode 46 of Filmed Obscura. Justin and Chris continue the season of schlock, fun cinema with a Norman J. Warren special: the obscure Bloody New Year. Much like a Bloody Mary drink, it's many ingredients (movies) thrown into a glass and stirred into craziness. And that's not necessary a bad thing. You can grab the phy...
