You want to STOP doing this or that - over drinking, over eating, under-exercising, whatever. And you tell yourself that you really need to stop . . . but despite the logic, you find yourself going directly against that logic. There is a really good reason why the brain does this, and a really "simple" way to fix it. And using the example of drinking a little too much - or more than you'd like - is a great place to illustrate it. It's embarrassing. As a sought-after health consultant I had a toxic stressor right under my nose and it wasn't even on my radar. That is, until about 8 months ago. I've had breast implants for nearly 13 years and it turns out my body has been a saint in dealing with the toxicity. But, it's also been "talking" to me all along the way. Dropping subtle clues that something wasn't quite right. I'll save the rest for the episode - symptoms, the help I got, what I did about it, and why. If you don't have implants, this episode can still be for you. Odds are you know someone who does, or someone who's been thinking about it. If not, well, it's a lesson in "finding the root cause" to what might be perpetuating your health and fitness challenges. Let's do this! Asking yourself if intermittent fasting fits your goal is a great suggestion. When people ask me why I do it I say "Because I want to be as lean and healthy as possible." I agree with your stance that it's not a viable long term ongoing strategy but it works well in short bursts. My solution is cycling out of ketosis every three days to keep my metabolism humming. ( I only do I.F. for 12-20 hrs 4 days a week.) That's an 8 hr fast followed by coffee with MCT'S then training followed by another 12 hr fast and capped off with 3 hrs of low carb high fat eating. This pattern has worked great for me and my clients who have tried it.
