Meet Chelsea Bronson, aka Catalyst.  Founder of the Tea Carp, volunteer for Burning Man for over ten years, and seasonal staff member at Burning Man. For the past 4 years she has been the Leave No Trace Compliance Special Ops and for the past 3 has been a MOOP Scribe for Playa Restoration; DPW.   Before going to Burning Man, Catalyst created an accredited internship program with Burning Man and the Communications Team. Since then she has burned every year and has volunteered for the Media Documentation Team, Burning Man Community Events Team, and for Burning Man hosted events such as Artist Symposium, Theme Camp Symposium, Global Leadership Conference, and Artumnal Gathering.  We talk about her volunteer experience, how it enriches her life.  We include how you might get involved in volunteering, how many get started and where it can lead.   What is the Tea Carp? The Tea Carp is a mobilized art installation that seeks to provide a safe ground for persons to merry-make, fill their cups, connect, and share human experiences together.  We offer themed, pop-up B.Y.O.C. tea services throughout the event. Each tea is made one cup at a time as we hold an appreciation for “slow service”. We savor time, experience, and one another; giving our guests a taste of this with their tea. Once they hand over their cup, visitors are invited to spend quali-tea time with those around them.A wooden tea house, which only leaves memories behind and is intended to bring beings together around points of interest. The Tea Carp has been invited to the Burning Man Regional near Santa Cruz, California called  unSCruz 2024: Portal of Possibilities!
Miss Conception, aka Sara Nicole Glass Musician, Performer, Volunteer, BWB Burner! With Kate Robinson from Tenderloin Community Benefit District, San Francisco Meet MissConception aka Sara Nicole Glass who is an amazing musician, performer, and volunteer for Burners Without Borders. Miss Conception produced a community-empowering event supporting local artists as well as raising funds for Burners Without Borders in late December 2023. Funds were donated to the Tenderloin Community Benefit District, a non profit in San Francisco supporting the families in the Tenderloin.   Lastly, we talk about her other burner volunteer experiences and how they have enriched her life -  specifically volunteering at unSCruz put on by Santa Cruz Regional burners happening in the south Bay the first weekend of May and the recent Burnal Equinox event on March 9 at Public Works put on by San Francisco Community Events Team. So much to learn from MissConception!   Burners Without Borders, San Francisco Chapter, is doing some great things to empower the community around the Tenderloin in San Francisco. Joining us is Kate Robinson who talks to us about projects in the Tenderloin for 2024 and how you can get involved. Then talk about how others who are not local to SF can find out about their own community chapters of Burners Without Borders. There’s plenty of philanthropy for burners to get involved in and there are lots of chapters all over the world.   The MISSION of Burners Without Borders:  BWB promotes activities around the globe that support a community's inherent capacity to thrive by encouraging innovative approaches to disaster relief and grassroots initiatives that make a positive impact.  Please note that Sara is a BWB volunteer and does not represent the entire BWB chapter or program.  The BWB website is intended to be the mouthpiece for this community’s efforts as well as a catalyst for inspiring new ideas.   Links associated to the podcast Burners Without Borders website Website for Tenderloin Community Benefit District Email:  sara.serendip@gmail.com  Website Link tree, Blog, TikTok, Twitter, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram. Linked in Miss Conception's music links Soundcloud Bandcamp Mix cloud Photographs by Glen Herring, Michael Ngarimu, Sara Nicole Glass Outro music by MissConception

Last time Suz and Dave Keane talked, he and his crew were making The Folly in 2019 and Dave was lead builder of Temple, 2018.  Most recently, his crew is ready for their next big-art build called Paradisium, aka the Folly Forest.  We hear from crew member Paul Franke.  With 20-26 iconic trees making up a forest at Black Rock City in 2022, it’s meant to lose us in the art as we find all nooks and crannies and climb some of the trees in the forest.  The buzz about!  Learn about where it’s built, what is needed and how to help.  Even if you are not going to Burning Man this year, there’s plenty of fun volunteering for this art build currently in Oakland, California. The lovely Veronica, Folly Builders Project Manager, popped in at the end and introduced herself.  Links associated to this podcast: The Folly Builders website with info on how to donate and volunteer Folly Builders Facebook page Dave Keane talking about The Folly  at a Burning Man symposium in 2019 The Folly Build on Into The Fire podcast posted in 2019   Intro music by Duckman on Soundcloud Photos taken by Dave Keane Into The Fire and Burner Podcast are  not affiliated with the Burning Man Organization.  It’s just a podcast.
What happens when a collection of Black Rock Juplaya camps decide to fund art by getting permits and selling tickets?   Meet the board of Everywhen Project, 2022 is working towards a week-long event at Black Rock Desert, 2022.  With over 2.5K members of their FB group, interest is growing and they are just getting started.  The board and the event grew out of camps regularly attending Juplaya at Black Rock Desert in Nevada.  With a passion for art, they developed a non-profit and a plan to obtain a permit for a ticketed event where a lot of the proceeds go to fund artists and their projects.  What is it like to get a larger event with permits, infrastructure, environmental stewardship and other important parts of a large, ticketed event.   Learn about how they are funding as much art as possible.   Links associated to the podcast: Official website:  https://www.everywhenproject.org/about Find their Facebook Group here https://www.facebook.com/everywhen  Graphic arts by Mike Parisi Intro music from Duckman found on Soundcloud
Meet Tree Jay Lee from The Temple Builders Guild.  It’s a new group of temple builders who got together and figured out a way to handle temple build tools and to keep a collection of tools for the next temple build.  This involves transportation and even Airstream made into a kitchen that is ready to deploy meals to a large build crew for years to come.  It’s the start of what is infrastructure that is passed down from year to year.  Their mission is to make temple builds as well as  municipal, community art projects,  easier for the artist(s) and teams who build them by equipping them with the necessary equipment while reducing waste and increasing efficiency. If they can do it, so can your team.  Learn from them and save your collected legacy for the next crew!   Links associated to the podcast: Temple Builders Guild website Photograph of Tree Jay Lee by Mathew Gilbuena Intro music from Duckman found on Soundcloud
Super Suz talks with Caveat Magister, Burning Man’s philosopher laureate. He’s the author of The Scene That Became Cities: what Burning Man philosophy can teach us about building better communities, and Turn Your Life Into Art: lessons in Psychomagic from the San Francisco Underground. His newest book is a synthesis of the San Francisco underground art scene and explains how they create highly personal and potentially transformative, designed experiences for participants. Corporations are trying to do this too with marketing and branding, however, Caveat explains why it’s rag-tag artists who have the most potential for psychomagic.    Links associated to the podcast: Burning Man’s webpage for the Philosophical Center My favorite video on Caveat’s Youtube Channel Photograph of Caveat by Tex Allen Book cover image: “Connections” by Oxana Belka, 2019 with the photo by  Ales Prikryl aka DustToAshes Intro music from Duckman found on Soundcloud
Some have said that 2021, besides being a virtual burn year, was all about the art cars.  That’s debatable, I know.  Instead of debating, we hear from two art car owners who called in to one of my Tuesday night shows on Shouting Fire online radio.  We talked about their experience at the Renegade Burn with their art cars.  This recording was made on August 28th, 2021.  I played some recorded mutant vehicle DJ sets, then we hear from Scotty, the  owner of the  AntiDysentery Art Car.  I played some more music and then we hear from Dustin, the owner of Shelly the Crab Art Car.  Both talk about their cars and what it was like to drive it around the playa in 2021 during the Black Rock Desert Renegade Burn.   Links Associated to this Podcast Shelly the Crab Art Car https://hackaday.io/project/163566-shelly-the-crab Anti Dysentery Art Car https://antidysentery.com/  Burning Man Intellectual Property article Intro Music by Duckman found on Souncloud Download all the Into The Fire podcasts on the Burner Podcast Soundcloud Channel.
Super Suz spoke with Sunshine Daydream in the spring of 2021.  He’s the Chief Radical Instigator of Playatech. He’s one of the most prolific artists in Black Rock City that nobody knows about.  He created Playatech in 2005 to spoof Decommodification, and it’s been used all these years in thousands of camps.  Learn how you and your campmates can turn plywood into Playatech in any garage or backyard.  It’s easy to fabricate, easy to pack, easy to assemble, and perfect for any playa needs from DJ booths to bike parking. This is a great summer to get rid of skanky, bulky playa couches and update your camp and village infrastructure!  Links associated to the podcast: www.playatech.com sunshine@playatech.com Photographs by Glimmer Intro Music by Duckman
Super Suz spoke with Dave X, Fire Art Safety Team Manager at Burning Man Project, to find out what are some of the things Burners need to be aware of when burning an effigy.  Many burners are gathering together this summer and this is the podcast that will help burners know about fire safety, fire awareness and other important things to think about and know when using fire to burn.   Links associated to the podcast: Article: Creating Dangerous Art Safely Article: Interview with Dave X in 2020 by Kirsten Weisenburger Article:  2016 Dave X  about the development of his department Photograph of Dave X  by John Curley Intro music from Alkaline Podcast, Episode A005 featuring Makii.  Find it on the Burner Podcast Soundcloud Channel.
Super Suz spoke with Tex Allen back in 2019 and he’s back. This time, his new project is his TTITD website for NFT’s that features honoraria artists and helps them fund new projects and earn income for their existing art. “Patronage IS Participation!” is Tex's new mantra. A portion of the NFT purchases will go towards a donation to Burning Man Project as well.  This is an independent website and group of artists who’ve stepped up and taken leadership in the new digital artspace.  Four months of work comes together soon and those who are curious will get to see what becomes of burner NFT’s when TTITD launches in late June, 2021.
