Season six, episode 8. It’s Air Force Week. Enough said. But there IS more. It’s President’s Circle Weekend for the Alumni Association & Foundation. Season six, episode 7. A big one this week. Football is back against Rice this weekend. We celebrate our Corporate and Finance Relations partners during the game, including the Olmsted Foundation. MG Bruce Scott, USA (ret) - Army Class of ‘72 - joins us as we drop names of former Navy and Army Olmsted Scholar winners. But we also talk about the impact Olmsted has to USNA in the form of philanthropy. We also talk to two members of the Naval Academy football team - Midn 3/C Mack Taylor and Midn 2/C Marcus Bleazard. Both Mids just recently returned to the Academy after two years off…on Mormon missions. Mack and Marcus break down their faith, experiences and how hard it was to come back to Annapolis after two years as a Missionary. And what does a missionary do, anyway? Tune in to find out. UAB pre-game social and Navy Women's Soccer Fanfest. We ran it back. Another live pod from Saturday's Women's Soccer Fanfest and pre-game social at Fluegel Alumni Center. Bill Wagner joined Chris and John to interview Coach Carin Gabarra, Midn 1/C Mimi Abusham and NWS alums from the class of 2000 Michelle Melendez, Grace Kelly and Shannon Filbin. Also joining the ladies of 2000 was long-time friend of the Pod Erin Bailey '00 to discuss the class' return to Annapolis for their 25-year reunion. We break down the NWS season so far, what to expect the rest of the way and hear the advice from the Class of 2000 alums about how athletics and being part of a team at USNA shaped their future. Our featured interview is with Gabrille Riffle-Gonzalez ‘17, a Marine…an entrepreneur…a cigar-lover. She founded Antipoliticas - a Cigar company with a big future. Her company was featured at the last USNA Entrepreneur Summit at the FAC. The company is her tribute to her roots, a bold celebration of heritage and a credit to the hard work USNA alums put into the journeys in and out of uniform. Season six, episode 3. It’s VMI week. The Mids are marching through Main Street. We’re throwing a pre-game social for the game here at the Fluegel Alumni Center 0900-1030 Saturday. We’re pumped. We also are honoring the life of John Elliott ‘00, who lost his life 25 years ago just after graduation to a drunk driver. The HERO campaign - which honors Elliott and raises awareness against drunk driving - will be partnering with Anne Arundel County (MD) police to wrap one of AA County’s squad cars in the HERO logo. The AA&F is proud to support the Elliott family and HERO campaign at the HERO event Aug 28th at noon at O’Laughlins restaurant in Arnold. Special Sing Second correspondent Emily Lucht brings us a special interview about HERO. Lastly, our amazing Alumni interview this week is with Cedric Williams ‘20, Founder and CEO of Blue Magnet. Season six, episode 2. Let’s do this. A new Supe started Friday, Navy Women’s Soccer started the Navy sports season Sunday (with a win) and classes started Monday. We got a lot going on. Chris and John talk about the Change of Command and the future of the Academy with Lt. Gen. Mike Borschulte ‘91. We also chat about a transformational gift from Bruce ‘67 and Bernadine Lakefield of $10 million to build, maintain and operate the future Lakefield Pavilion behind the North end zone. Our interview this week is with QB Blake Horvath ‘26 and NT Landon Robinson ‘26. Blake and Landon talk leadership on and off the field and the outlook for the season. Mitch Harris ‘08 is the only USNA graduate to play in major league baseball since the 1920s. Mitch graduated. Served 5 years as a SWO, Continued to chase his MLB dream and realized it with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2015. He just wrote a book about his journey - My Private War. Now, nearly 30 years after they left their respective academies to start aviation careers, the two are joining forces to bring jobs to America.Dean started Authentically American in 2017 to help bring manufacturing jobs back to America by selling premium, competitively priced, apparel that is ALL Made in the US. Kyle is hosting the HERO RUN & COMMUNITY FESTIVAL Saturday, June 7, 10:00am – 2:00pm with the “Hero Run” at 11:30am at Annapolis High School. The event honors soldiers who have lost their lives to suicide. Butters will run 22 miles each day of the weekend, totaling 66 miles, to raise awareness and support for mental health and suicide prevention programs for military personnel and veterans. And Craig Symonds. Symonds just released the non-fiction book Annapolis Goes To War. It is an amazing read that chronicles the paths of the Class of 1940 from USNA as they graduated and entered into World War II. Craig talks about the book and his many years on the faculty at USNA. Those great convos…plus Chirs and John talk about USS Harry S Truman’s return from deployment, another great flag officer promotion for a USNA alum and their thoughts on the football game time schedule.
