Description
Mythillogical is the podcast where two enthusiasts of mythology, history and folklore try and make sense of the wide variety of fantastic tales told by cultures around the world. We discuss why the same idea can show up in the mythology of cultures on opposite sides of the world, what real events can inspire superstition and folklore, how stories can completely change over time, and where possible try to figure out what could have inspired people to dream up dragons, demons, gods and monsters. May contain wild speculation, terrible puns, and if we’re lucky, actual facts.

Cassie resurfaces in Scotland, to investigate another loch monster, the Morag of Loch Morar. Although Nessie may have hogged the limelight, we find tales of Morag all the way back to the 19th century, from a harbinger of death for the MacDonnell clan, to a reptilian beast attacking local sailors. Folklore and Superstition is now on youtube! Check out our first episode here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q2aTsCL0NpY
Today, join Cassie in the historic English city of Lincoln, to hear the folk tales surrounding a gargoyle at Lincoln's famous cathedral, said to be the Devil turned to stone and trapped within the church.
Join Cassie as she tells you a ghost story from Cornwall, in South West England, of an unscrupulous lawyer summoned from beyond the grave to testify in court, whose spirit remains trapped on Earth, eternally trying to evade the clutches of the Devil.
Today, Cassie brings you to the Isle of Man, a small island in the Irish sea, to tell the tale of a fairy cursed and exiled from the fairy realm, who becomes a hard working helper to the farmers of the isle.
There’s a full moon on the rise, and so Charles and Cassie have bolted the doors, stocked up on silver bullets, and armed themselves with any knowledge on Werewolves they can find. Going all the way back to the Paleolithic, they search for signs of wolf men hiding among cave people, Proto-Indo Europeans, Ancient Greeks and Romans, the Norse, and the Medieval Irish, before investigating the infamous Wolf Trials from the 15th century onwards. https://www.patreon.com/theHistocrat https://bsky.app/profile/thehistocrat.bsky.social Mythillogical logo + Thumbnail art by Ettore Mazza.
