Exploring and searching for truth and meaning in a world that is constantly embracing different beliefs and spirituality can be tricky. It can feel misguided or taboo when we’ve grown up in a religion or culture that doesn’t encourage curiosity. For many of us, our defining beliefs aren’t just a philosophy or guide to how we live, but a massive part of our identity. We can be shamed for rejecting our roots when we steer away from what we were raised with and that can have painful results. Converting can result in being disowned and experiencing fractured family relationships. How can we find peace and contentment in the midst of losing closeness with our loved ones, because they don’t agree with our faith walk? We all want to put our best foot forward and have the image of being put together and being in our element in our professional and personal lives, but we can often fall into the trap of comparison. We can default to putting on the strong woman persona, because somewhere along the way we have made vulnerability and needing help to be synonymous with weakness. We wanted to discuss where these ideas stem from and why we can sometimes find it difficult to value ourselves when we don’t feel like we’re keeping up appearances. How can we celebrate our wins while also leaving space for the not so sweet moments? Watch as our hosts Rachel Calland and Sinead Minkah are joined by Adjoa Odetayo and Diane Tuffuoh in the Magnify Studio for Ep 39 ‘Keeping Up Appearances’.TW Miscarriage and baby loss.--STAY UP TO DATE WITH OUR GUESTFollow our guest on Instagram: Adjoa Odetayo @adjoaaaDiane Tuffuoh @beingdiane--STAY UP TO DATE WITH MAGNIFYFor more aspirational content, subscribe to Magnify emails here: https://www.magnifycollective.com/join-our-community--SUPPORT OUR VISIONhttps://www.magnifycollective.com/donate--MUSICThe music intro in our videos is from Music Bed Hosted on Acast. The experiences and relationships we observe and encounter from childhood and adolescence have the ability to impact how we view future relationships. We can easily solidify our view of marriage, friendship and community based on a negative projection of our earliest representations. We can develop thick skin to protect ourselves from more hurt, but need to recognise that a defensive and overly critical attitude can block our blessings when healthy love and care comes our way.How can we work through our trust issues to ensure that our platonic and romantic relationships thrive? Watch as our hosts Rachel Calland and Sinead Minkah and are joined by Mary Olushanu in the Magnify Studio for Ep 38 Renewing Our Relationship Perspective. --STAY UP TO DATE WITH OUR GUESTFollow our guest on Instagram: Mary Olushanu @lifewithmaryo--STAY UP TO DATE WITH MAGNIFYFor more aspirational content, subscribe to Magnify emails here: https://www.magnifycollective.com/join-our-community--SUPPORT OUR VISIONhttps://www.magnifycollective.com/donate--MUSICThe music intro in our videos is from Music Bed Hosted on Acast. TW Mention of suicide attempt.Mother-daughter relationships are often filled with moments of great friction and great joy. We’re all trying to figure out how to nurture our familial relationships with love and respect, but it only happens through being emotionally, mentally and spiritually mature. Generational patterns and learnt behaviour can slow the pace of strengthening our bonds, but being open and receptive to feedback, while letting go of the fear of conflict allows us to step foot onto the right path. How can we create space to grow the healthiest relationships we can, and not weaponise confrontation or respect? Being career driven has its perks and building on our gifts and expertise is something to be proud of. However, a good thing like ambition can turn toxic if we end up neglecting our other responsibilities, or becoming too consumed in our work that it ends up compromising our values. It can be difficult to know what sort of women we want to be, and what roles we want to take on, specifically when we want to nurture and grow our careers and our families. Luckily, it is possible to live a life where we create time to have the drive to do both. How can we let go of the negative stigma surrounding female ambition and celebrate our professional and personal wins with a balanced approach? Addiction is covered in a lot of shame and stigma yet we all know someone who has previously battled with, or is currently battling with one. Some substance dependencies are obvious and others are shrouded in secrecy. People from all different backgrounds suffer from the mental and physical toll it takes on them and their inner circle. Society can be quick to villainize people with addictions, without considering what led them there in the first place, making it increasingly harder to choose sobriety in a world obsessed with excess. How can we support a loved one who needs to recognise and recover from a substance abuse problem, and how can we do this with grace, sensitivity and care? It’s easy to have a negative and short-lived view of marriage when we reflect on the statistics of around half of marriages failing in modern society. There are undoubtedly toxic and abusive situations that are unsalvageable, but we wanted to explore the ways in which we sometimes self-sabotage and how our perfect picture of marriage doesn’t leave space for the growth that arises with challenges after the wedding. It’s important to remember to hold onto why we chose marriage and also reflect on the core tenants that bring two people together. How can we mold a partnership and atmosphere where we stick with marriage when it's easier to quit? With our generation's digital obsession with being glued to LinkedIn and getting notifications every time someone gets promoted or levels up in life, it can be hard to stay in our lane and focus on our own callings, passions and professions. It’s so important for us to have an abundant mindset that encourages us to try to chase after our dreams without negatively comparing ourselves. Limiting beliefs about ourselves and our abilities hinder us and stop us reaching our full potential. How can we enthusiastically approach life’s risks and rewards and learn to take it in our stride? TW: Drug use.It can feel lonely and isolating when it seems like everyone around us is reaching their professional, financial and romantic goals, but we can embrace these seasons and focus on how we can grow spiritually, and become more well-rounded and grounded women. We want to be constantly reminded that our dreams aren’t void but each and every one of our timelines is different. We want to live in the enjoyment of now, while knowing that we can do that alongside nurturing a dream that we still hope comes to pass one day.How can we have healthy goals and ambition without fixating on our desires and reaching societal milestones? TW: Sexism, coercion, assault. Sometimes it can feel challenging to be proud of our faith in our day-to-day work lives, and at times it can even feel isolating when we feel like we’re in the minority. It’s refreshing to remember that we don’t need validation from people who disagree with our worldview, and we can honour our values by turning up to work and taking pride and care in what we do. When we think about our career journeys, some of us can look back with cynicism and reflect on times when we felt like we were taken advantage of. This can put a strain on the way we see our industries, but there is still a glimmer of hope with the wisdom we gain and share. How do we leave a lasting positive impact in our industries when they don’t always align with our core values? Many of us believe success is directly related to monetary numbers and status. While businesses that thrive need these things, we need to be sure that we don’t get caught up in the trap of instant gratification. There’s no perfect rule book that details how we can avoid hardships and disappointments professionally or personally, but we can always work towards being thankful for each day, embracing all the highs and lows, knowing that every season can teach us a lesson that helps us have a more well-rounded view. How do we transform our view of success and identity so we have a more robust outlook on life? In an increasingly digital and connected world, many of us are looking to build profitable communities and restore connection with others but this journey isn’t always a smooth and easy one. Leading a vision means being intentional with the team you hire and making sure attitudes and work ethics align internally and externally. There’s always curveballs on the road of entrepreneurship from firm conversations, tough financial decisions and a laser focus on the vision over personal comforts. How do we continue to prioritise diligence and devotion when we’re working hard but don’t see the final results yet? Having faith teaches us to give our worries to God through prayer. While we trust God with our problems and believe He is working for our healing and benefit, therapy can also help us in ways that are practical and immediate. However, there can still be a stigma attached to therapy in some faith and cultural circles. As women who want to develop and better ourselves, we know this is an important conversation to have in our community. Listen in as our hosts, Ruth and Rachel, discuss their experience of blending therapy and faith, and how therapy can be used not as a replacement for faith, but in addition to it.--NEVER FULLY DRESSED DISCOUNT CODEPRESS50%2021--STAY UP TO DATE WITH MAGNIFYFor more aspirational content, subscribe to Magnify emails here: https://www.magnifycollective.com/join-our-community--MUSIC"Summer Chill 2" by Mona Wonderlick — bit.ly/youtube-monawonderlickCreative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0Free download: bit.ly/summer-chill-2-download Hosted on Acast. Is it truly possible to have convictions and still uphold everyone and everything? No matter what your background or beliefs are, there is no doubt our current culture appears to be conflicted when it comes to what we tolerate and what we won't. Accepting and supporting everyone undergirds a lot of our conversations, but is complete tolerance a myth? The way the media polarises situations has presented us with a challenge, and we often make assumptions about people with certain values and caricature them. How can we learn to respond well to disagreements as women of faith? Join us as hosts, Ruth and Rachel from Team Magnify, unpack this further.--STAY UP TO DATE WITH MAGNIFYFor more aspirational content, subscribe to Magnify emails here: https://www.magnifycollective.com/join-our-community--MUSIC"Summer Chill 2" by Mona Wonderlick — bit.ly/youtube-monawonderlickCreative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0Free download: bit.ly/summer-chill-2-download Hosted on Acast. She co-founded ‘To My Sisters’, one of the fastest-growing women's development communities, and is the Founder of beauty brand ‘CDB London’.Philly is a vocal coach and works in artist development. Is it important to date someone who shares your core values? Dating and romantic relationships are naturally a part of our lives if we’re looking to find a partner; someone we can adventure through life with. Although fun, dating, especially for women of faith, can be complex. Often, we know what we’re looking for, but finding it in someone else isn’t always simple. Today, we talk about the place of values when dating, and how much they play a role in relationships that last the long haul. We look at growing together through good times and bad, and how considering shared values can significantly help when finding a partner.--STAY UP TO DATE WITH MAGNIFYFor more aspirational content, subscribe to Magnify emails here: https://www.magnifycollective.com/join-our-community--MUSIC"Summer Chill 2" by Mona Wonderlick — bit.ly/youtube-monawonderlickCreative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0Free download: bit.ly/summer-chill-2-download Hosted on Acast. TW: In this episode, we do sensitively discuss miscarriage. If this is something you’d rather not hear, we’ll be back in two weeks with a new episode, and hope to see you there. In the second episode of the season, we’re discussing all things motherhood and identity.Motherhood is a great joy and a privilege, one which although a responsibility, is something that is precious. A lot of women who are considering becoming a parent are anxious about the impact it will have on their whole life, especially their identity. As we discuss this topic today, we look at the different challenges of motherhood, as well as how we can embrace the ebb and flow of the season. We look at how we energise different parts of ourselves so that we can show up as Mums, too.We hope this conversation is helpful to you, wherever you’re at in your journey of motherhood --STAY UP TO DATE WITH MAGNIFYFor more aspirational content, subscribe to Magnify emails here: https://www.magnifycollective.com/join-our-community--MUSIC"Summer Chill 2" by Mona Wonderlick — bit.ly/youtube-monawonderlickCreative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported — CC BY 3.0Free download: bit.ly/summer-chill-2-download Hosted on Acast. In this first episode of the season, we get talking about money. In the context of faith, money can be a topic that divides people - is it good, is it bad? Is it ok to want and work towards nice things? Because of its nature to divide opinion, it can be an area that many of us might shy away from speaking about openly. But, the reality is that we all need money in today’s world, not just to live, but to thrive in our visions and dreams too, so speaking about it candidly can help us all. We tackle the question ‘Is it okay to be financially ambitious as a woman of faith?’. And, being raised with all kinds of different notions about money, can we have a healthy view of it and still grow in faith?--HELPFUL MONEY RESOURCESBooksRich Dad Poor Dad by Robert T.
