26 years ago, I began experimenting with cheat days. I was getting good results with them, however, when I brought them to the head of the nutrition department at the University of Delaware, he had no clue what I was talking about. He dismissed the concept altogether. However, I knew they worked because I was using them, but I was yearning to know more about how they worked. That is when I came across my first hired Coach, Scott Abel. Scott taught me a ton about cheat days, cheat meals and I even was on what is know as the Cycle Diet for a good period of time. In this episode, I talk about cheat days and cheat meals, how to do them, who needs them and the difference between using cheat days for physiological versus psychological reasons. Remember, you can't get fat in a meal or one day, so don't stress it. If you use your cheat day the right way, it will serve you. Desire and fear, fear and desire. They go hand in hand when you peel the onion. I often get asked what one should track when they start out with long form fasting on the Panda Diet. In this video, I give you my thoughts on what to track and why. However, be very mindful not to insert an obsessive compulsive approach from the traditional dieting world towards your fasting focused lifestyle. A big part of why I created the Panda Diet, which is my unique version of fasting, beasting and feasting, was to create the prison of traditional dieting and an emphasis on tracking and weighing everything. When we begin a journey, we want to learn and the best way to do that is total immersion. At that stage of the game or for any learning in general, tracking the metrics can be beneficial. But as you will see in the video, there are subjective markers that are far more important to track than things like your 'ketones'. Last night, for the first time, I watched the movie 'Skulls' with Devon. I remember when the movie came out in the early 2000's and not having too much interest in watching it. And to be honest, the only reason I watched it this time is because Devon said it was one of her favorites. But, as I watched it, it became apparent that it was to deceive people and that got me to thinking about a theory I have had for a while when it comes to something known as 'predictive programming'. Which of course, made me want to share with you conspiracies in health and fitness, absurdities that keep the masses unhealthy, asleep, low energy, Homer Simpson-esqe, and zombified. It makes you easier to control and gives away our God given power. Take a listen and if you like what you hear, you are going to want to subscribe to the monthly Panda Man Files (new name), my print newsletter, because this month I am going deep into the health and fitness conspiracies and see where that takes us. It is sure to be enertaining. I am currently down in Newport, KY visiting my aunt and uncle with Brax and Colty. We will be leaving to come back to Jersey in just a few hours in the early morning hours. It's been a great trip and I've had a lot of time to think being away from home and taking a nice distance road trip. On my Coaching calls today, I talked about being fully present and how it's a practice and somethign we need to aspire to. There is no moment but NOW, I dare you to try and prove otherwide, at least on this earthly dimension. Each moment is a life time, each moment is full of richness and beauty if you are there to experience it. Take a listen to this short episode that I just recorded on a walk around the block while smoking a cigar. It'll be good food for thought. P.S. - I have one client finishing up a great year of 1-1 Coaching, which means I have one spot opening. If you are ready and see the potential value of having a Coach in your life, feel free to shoot me a text and we can set up a time to chat about it. 908-229-6666.
Are you living and learning or just living by following? Most people never think about their life's philosophy, yet we all have a philsophy of life. Anyone that is a writer, reader and intentional thinker has a philosophy of life, and I am willing to bet my butt that these are the most interesting people that you have conversations with. We all have people like this in our lives. Take time to put pen to paper to get your thoughts out and really see what you believe to be true about the nature of reality and existence. You will be suprised as time goes on how your brain will make a connection between any two events, experiences or thoughts. Everything is connected. In today's episode, I share how having a philosphy of life has allowed my life to become much more interesting and fascinating. Be Unconventional, Kyle Newell aka Panda Man
Is comfort eating away at your soul? One thing I became very clear on before we had children was that if I told them to go for their dreams, I didn't ever want them to be able to say or think, 'Why? You never went for yours Dad.' It makes for an interesting life. In today's episode, I give you a quick shot of inspiration in the form of a few stories that might just awaken the giant within you. Become a legend. Be Unconventional, Kyle Newell aka Panda Man P.S. - Want to be a RIPPED DAD? It's a mentality and that mentality won't only help you get into the best shape of your LIFE, it will help you find your EDGE. My Ripped Dads book is full of training knowledge and programs, fasting protocols and wisdom in regards to mindset. My printer has the first batch of hard copies and I am keeping the price at $105 untilt this batch is gone, which should only be a week, two at most, then it goes up. I bought a giant box of Fruity Pebbles this weekend, for my cheat nights. And I noticed on the box that it said, 'Gluten Free'. How silly is that? It made me think about how much people are taught to focus on the minutia when it comes to their food. God made us with brilliant bodies and he didn't intend for us to weigh our food, count our calories and hit a certain macro breakdown. In this episode, I dive deeper into the line of thought that I try to help people break free from. Take a listen and let me know any questions. Enjoy! Be Unconventional, Kyle Newell aka Panda Man P.S. - If you are ready for the best year of your life and desire a Coach, that's what I do best. Yesterday, I had a moment of clarity. Devon took Brax to a birthday party and Emma to a play date. Ainsley went down for a timely nap, which meant it was just Colty and I. I had a million and one things to do, and I asked myself, 'What's most important right now?' So, I sat down to read the bible and another book that my brothers and I are reading as a book club. Which led to a thinking session. I wrote down on the left side of the page, everything I want to do and that I want to begin prioritizing and on the right side of the page, I wrote down everything I have to get done, projects that I have to advance but that I am not necessarily that excited about. In today's episode, I give you my big takeaway that I am super excited to share with you and how it kind of blew my mind. I haven't been finding the time to focus on the things that I want to prioritize because I haven't been making them a priority! And, I realized that the stuff I have to do links directly to items I want to spend more time doing, they are building blocks, necessary 'evils' if you will. This exercise that I go over here is gold, if you take the time to do it. Thanks as always for taking the time to listen and for supporting me. Be sure to share it with a friend! Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man P.S. - If you are stuck and are sick of relying on outside tactics to try and change yourself and want some strategies that go to work on you, as a whole being, which means the transformation happens from the inside out, then shoot me a text and we can discuss what working with me looks like. It's unique and different and as my clients would tell you, worth every cent because there's no more up and down, yo-yoing. I've got a slot or two open last I checked the roster, text me at 908-229-6666
I used to say to clients that any great diet must be functional and sustainable. And while that remains true, I have also come to the conclusion that any 'diet' must enhance mind, body and spirit. Think about diets you've tried or most people's diets out there, it only focuses on the body and because it's rooted in faulty thinking, usually it harms the body in terms of metabolic damage. Diets can temporarily solve one issue (weight loss) by creating a far bigger issue, which will certainly lead to more weight gain (metabolic damage). In today's episode, I give you some different ideas to think about and the benefits I've discovered with the Panda Diet in terms of my mind, my body and my spirit. Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man P.S. - If you are ready to have the best year of your life, I have one 1-1 Coaching slot open. It's pricey, reassuringly so. Text me if you'd like to have a chat. 908-229-6666
Happy New Year my friend! STOP! Do not set goals like everyone else or like you probably have in the past. It rarely, if ever works, just like a traditional North American diet, rarely if ever works. Think that's a coincidence? Nope, it's called seeing through the Matrix, a big part of what I teach my clients and students. Because once you see through it, you will see that everything is connected and you'll be playing the game of life with a HUGE advantage, because nearly everyone else is playing by the false rules they've been taught, in so many areas. Anyways, in this episode, I wanted to give you a different way of setting your yearly goals, one that will excite you and make you feel at peace, rather than setting a New Year's resolution and having that creeping anxiety coming up because you know in your heart that you won't be able to sustain the grind of the hot and heavy pace required by normal standards. Just a warning, the information in this 500th episode might make you twitch and it will challenge your reality. Scoff at the ideas if you will, but you won't be able to get that seed of thought out of your mind. So, proceed with caution and really think if that's a box you are ready to open. Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man P.S. - If you are ready to transform for realz, then you still have a day or two to get into my upcoming 6-week Panda Challenge. Fasting doesn't have to be as hard as you think. Who fed you the line that eating 5-6 times per day, counting your calories and further dividing those calories into your macro counts was easier than fasting? Seriously...think about that. In today's episode, I lay out some simple ways to make the Panda Diet easier. If you can grasp what I am saying here, there is no stopping you. Enjoy! Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man P.S. - Here is a link for my upcoming 6-week Panda Challenge. I was obsessed with death as a young boy. This crippling fear would attack again throughout my adult life, but it was a true blessing, because I've thought about death far more than most I would venture to guess. In today's episode I talk about my philosophy on how death is all throughout your life, something many ancient philosophies also believed. I know in my heart that this way of thinking will help you elevate your life, so enjoy! So many people have well meaning friends and family that want to try and lecture them on the dangers of fasting, which is ironic, because a majority of the time, those well-meaning people don't have good health or good looking physiques. Today, a long time client texted me a reel from IG that someone had sent her and she wanted to know how to deal with people that lecture her about fasting. In today's episode, I give some of my views on the nutritionally indoctrinated and how to deal with them, if needed. I cover the concepts of the relationship between cortisol and insulin, breakfast, the modern Rockefeller system of nutrition, cutting calories and even poking a major hole in the calorie deficit model, even if it were the same as what I teach the Panda Diet and how it would still make zero sense from a Mind Mapping perspective. Last week was a whirlwind. I went out to Utah for a quick 36 hour trip to hang with my buddy and client, Nate Bailey. Nate wanted me to experience stem cell therapy and experience it I did! Then, once I got home, I was off to a seminar for a few hours to learn from a legend in the strength and conditioning industry, Joe Kenn. In addition, I had the opportunity to hear Brian Koppelman, the creator of Billions, speak about success. I am always learning and learning from experience in order so that I keep from dying too young. And, I am not talking about physically dying, I am talking about dying mentally and spiritually. Tune in to find out what I learned last week, guaranteed you will learn at least one key insight. Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man
We had a great time on our cruise to celebrate my parent's 50th anniversary last week. I often get the question about what I do on a vacation and what other's should do. While I can't tell you what you should do, because everyone is different, I do have a certain philosophy when I'm on vacation that allows me to enjoy myself to the fullest while still feeling great. In this episode, I cover: -Sleep -Drinking -Eating and Fasting -Training on Vacation And, I finish off with telling you about my delayed flight experience that made my half marathon on Sunday a whole heck of a lot tougher. As always, thanks for the support! Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man P.S. - If you are ready for real, in-depth help from me, shoot me a text and we can discuss options: 908-229-6666
My streak of nearly 500 straight weeks nearly came to an end! But, I am delayed at the airport coming back from a family cruise and I dialed up a gem for you! I found an old interview I did with my longtime Coach, now deceased, John Meadows. John aka Mountain Dog, was a legend in the bodybuilding world. I was fortunate enough to learn directly from John, as well as have him featured in one of my earlier books, soon to be published for the masses (Anabolic Recharge). John had a HUGE influence on my philosophies on nutrition and yes, even fasting, even though it wasn't something I was practicing at the time, nor did John ever talk about fasting. But, we did talk about insulin often. Take a listen to this long lost interview, never before heard by anyone other than a few close friends. Enjoy and let me know what you think! Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man P.S. - I just released my new RIPPED DADS book a little more than a week ago and it's killer! It's over 200 pages and I have workouts, fasting and nutrition protocols, as well as my philosophies on mental and physical strength. Right now, I am still offering it for just $100, if you want the early bird price, shoot me a text at 908-229-6666.
Strength is the big glass bowl that all other fitness and athletic qualities fit into. Strength is often the answer and yes, it is all relative. Understanding these concepts will go a long way in your journey to optimal health. I keep it simple so you can keep it simple, yet also learn for yourself. Be Unconventional, Kyle aka Panda Man
