S15E29 Blowin' in the Wind

2025-12-1001:13:40

As Scotland gets battered by another storm, the football tries its best to continue on regardless - with mixed results in the KDM Evolution Trophy... or the Scottish Challenge Cup once you blow away the sponsorship.Josh hosts the latest podcast, and he's joined by Charlie, Daris, Graeme and Krys to chat not only about the weather related stories from the midweek cup fixtures, but also to look back on the weekend's action. The top of the table clash at Celtic Park went the way of the visitors, so questions are once again asked as to whether Hearts can end the Glasgow stranglehold on the title as well as the far more important question of whether or not the wind can blow away wee magnets. How many teams are in this title race anyway? Two? Three? Four? Five? The next few weeks will no doubt breeze through and make the picture a little clearer. The guys also touch on the World Cup draw once more, looking in detail at Scotland chances of finally getting out of the group stage at the ninth time of asking, and just how much more it might cost the Tartan Army to stay on in an already eyewateringly expensive trip to North America. Those costs have really taken the wind out of the sails of some of us.Thanks as always for listening. If you enjoy this podcast, please share it around! And thanks as always to our good friends at Supernova Terracewear!Linktree - https://linktr.ee/SFFPODCASTDiscord - Scottish Football ForumsBluesky - @sffpodcast.bsky.socialTwitter/X - @sffpodcastInstagram - sffpodcastTikTok - @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsMastodon - @sffpodcast@mastodon.scotEmail - scottishfootballforumspodcast@gmail.com
We know the draw, and now we know where Scotland are going to be playing their World Cup games. Brazil in Miami on the third matchday follows Haiti and Morocco in Boston, and John B got in touch with Scottish commentator Derek Rae, who happens to reside in the Massachusetts city.Lightning has struck twice for Derek as the Euro's also welcomed the Scots in his German residence of Cologne, and he confidently predicts that Boston will have as big an impact on the Tartan Army as Cologne did. Derek gives his insight into the best hotspots in the city, the best areas for TA congregation, and very useful tips on getting to the stadium so pay attention. He finishes up by giving his thoughts on Scotland's chances, and two players who he's seen at close quarters that should be considered for Steve Clarke's squad. The podcast finishes up with the thoughts of the three other home nations who featured in the draw. 3 Lions podcast host Russell Osbourne takes a look at England's chances, which didn't quite have the "Lapland, Melchester Rovers and me and my mum" scenario like other campaigns gone by, whilst Podcast Peldroed host Russell Todd and journalist Mark McIntosh take a Welsh and Northern Irish viewpoint, where both nations are in the same playoff path as Bosnia and Italy respectively. Thanks as always for listening. It was a day we had waited 28 years for, a World Cup draw featuring Scotland (and not via the UEFA playoff route like 2022 that ended in failure). Lo and behold, the draw gave us two of the same teams we faced at France ‘98 plus an unknown quantity from our viewpoint.John Bleasdale got reaction from the draw event at Barras Art And Design organised by Gully Singh and features interviews with Gully, Gordon Sheach, Blair McNally, Craig Ferguson and SFF’s new kid on the block Daris, who took time from his busy media schedule to speak to us. We also got reaction from some of the regular SFF team along with some past guests and contributors.Check out our socials for more content and we aim to bring more World Cup specials between now and the big kick off in June 2026. Bring it on!Thanks for listening and to everyone who has given us feedback on our recent episodes.
In the wake of the new that John has stepped down from the podcast after 15 years, for which we thank him and wish him well on his new venture, Graeme's back hosting and is joined by Cammy and Daris in a bit more of a depleted lineup than last week's Scotland celebrations.Speaking of which, the guys discuss whether or not Harvey Barnes should be considered for a seat on the plan to North America as he has declared he wants to play for Scotland now. Funny that. There's a look over at Rangers as Kevin Thelwell and Patrick Stewart are relieved of their duties. Farewell Star Trek and X-Men jokes, we hardly knew ye.And of course this is Scottish football so there's chat about all the dodgy decisions that were made by referees over the course of the weekend. Is it possible they are actually worse than usual?
Scotland have done it, we're going to the World Cup!Graeme hosted the continuing celebrations as he was joined by Daris, both Johns, Krys and Laurie. The guys talked over an amazing night at Hampden as Scotland qualified for our first World Cup since 1998.We discussed the build up to the match itself, before moving onto all the crucial moments in the game, including which of the goals from Mctominay, Tierney and McLean was the best. We also talked Steve Clarke and how he is the most successful Scotland Manager.28 years of waiting is finally over, bring on the summer! Thanks for listening and to everyone who has given us feedback on our recent episodes.Linktree - https://linktr.ee/SFFPODCASTDiscord - Scottish Football ForumsBluesky - @sffpodcast.bsky.socialTwitter/X - @sffpodcastInstagram - sffpodcastTikTok - @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsMastodon - @sffpodcast@mastodon.scotEmail - scottishfootballforumspodcast@gmail.com
John is joined by Ethan from The Dugout and Cammy and Rhys from the Rhys and Cammy podcast. We discuss the game against Greece with us giving the starting eleven ratings out of 10.There is debate about possible changes for the team for Tuesday as we look to win and qualify for the World Cup.Will Clarke throw a curveball, are attackers who are in wheelchairs allowed to play? There is some chat too about pre match routines and more.
Regulars John, Graeme D and Laurie are joined by regular guest when it comes to the national team, Alan aka Air Force Wan.Making his first appearance on the podcast is Cammy who is a fan of many teams and is given one of the cruelest introductions ever.On one of the most random episodes we've ever recorded, there is chat about why Laurie should take a break from Rugby Park and visit Auchinleck Talbot's Beechwood Park instead. This segment probably sets the tone for the whole episode. There are belly laughs, discussion around some of the names in the Scotland squad and more.We ask the questions that others are afraid to ask like which Scottish player would you most like to see in a pair of beach volleyball pants and who is on your club calendar his month.Let's hope that Scotland can get the job done on Saturday and we can look forward to night of happiness at Hampden next Tuesday. Thanks for listening and make sure to like, subscribe and follow on our social media outlets, as well as joining us on our Discord.Linktree - https://linktr.ee/SFFPODCASTDiscord - Scottish Football ForumsBluesky - @sffpodcast.bsky.socialTwitter/X - @sffpodcastInstagram - sffpodcastTikTok - @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsMastodon - @sffpodcast@mastodon.scotEmail - scottishfootballforumspodcast@gmail.com
John and Laurie are joined by Daris making his second appearance but first as a regular. We have a guest too as football writer and Motherwell fan, Ben Banks joins us.We kick off the football chat by focusing on Kilmarnock and their recent poor run of form. This leads on to debate as to whether Laurie should watch a different sport. There is League Cup semis chat with Daris being delighted and Ben getting free therapy after Motherwell were pumped. The podcast was recorded on the same day that the Scotland squad was announced. Inevitably this means there is chat about the goalie situation, shortage of centre backs and the hope for a top class striker.

S15E16 We Led in Munich

S15E16 We Led in Munich

2025-09-2501:38:02

In this episode, John and Krys are joined by author Steven Lawther to discuss his latest book, "We Led in Munich: the Unlikely Adventures of Raith Rovers in Europe".The book is effectively a follow up to Steven's "Unthinkable: Raith Rovers Improbably Journey from the Bottom of Scottish Football" in which Raith Rovers went on to win the League Cup in November 1994 and thus qualify for Europe.Starting off discussing the book itself, and the upcoming book launch event at Waterstones Kirkcaldy branch, chat inevitably turns to a good old fashioned throwback. The guys reflect on the League Cup run, culminating in penalty shootout success in the final at Ibrox.Back in the good old days, a League Cup win came with a European spot so Raith drew the short straw - twice - with some awkward trips north before winning the golden ticket to Germany. Steven takes us through his own experiences of that European run, and Krys even reflects on his own oddly similar Munich experiences eight years later. The book itself is out on Monday, so be sure to check it out as well as Steven's other books which also include "Arrival: How Scotland's Women Took Their Place on the World Stage and Inspired a Generation", a look at SWNT's 2019 World Cup finals experience.https://linktr.ee/SFFPODCASTThanks for listening and make sure to like, subscribe and follow on our social media outlets, as well as joining us on our Discord.Discord - Scottish Football ForumsBluesky - @sffpodcast.bsky.socialTwitter/X - @sffpodcastInstagram - sffpodcast TikTok - @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsMastodon - @sffpodcast@mastodon.scotEmail - scottishfootballforumspodcast@gmail.com

Our latest episode has a special intro from our friend across the water who prefers soccer to football.John, Charlie, Danny and Laurie are joined by Ethan from The Dugout. The show kicks off with some League Cup chat, pressure at Aberdeen and only one happy camper in the cup.Danny is keen to stress that Simo's Sexy Saints won again and everything is perfect in Perth.Charlie leads a segment about the standard of refereeing this season and the abysmal use of VAR with decisions being reversed after the KMI panel looks at them.On the back of this we discuss ways the system could be improved. It takes a while for the podcast to come to a climax which is no surprise with so many passionate people on.Laurie now has a new nickname but if you can think of a better one, get in touch.Oh, coming soon we'll have a 2020 throwback in the days where you could get plenty beer but struggled for pasta and toilet paper.https://linktr.ee/SFFPODCASTThanks for listening and make sure to like, subscribe and follow on our social media outlets, as well as joining us on our Discord.Discord - Scottish Football ForumsBluesky - @sffpodcast.bsky.socialTwitter/X - @sffpodcastInstagram - sffpodcastTikTok - @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsMastodon - @sffpodcast@mastodon.scotEmail - scottishfootballforumspodcast@gmail.com

Charlie is joined for the second episode this week by three of the lads from one of his favourite bands about just now — The Rants. Logan and Shay jump on for a chat about how they came together, where the name came from, and the influences that have shaped their sound. We dive into their debut EP Ode To a Broken Soul, the stories behind them, and which songs they love playing most live. We also talk about their favourite gigs so far, highlights from a massive year, and their big slot at Tenement Trail next month alongside the likes of Dead Pony, Gallus and Callum Stewart.Of course, it wouldn’t be the podcast without some football chat. We cover childhood memories, who they support, Scotland’s latest games, which stadium they’d play halftime at, and even compare each band member to a footballer. There’s also the all-important question: if The Rants were a five-a-side team, who’s scoring goals, who’s stuck in nets, and who’s definitely getting sent off?We wrap it all up with some quick-fire questions, listener Q’s, and a good old rant about the modern game.Plenty of laughs, music, and football chat in this one — make sure to follow The Rants on Instagram and Spotify, and get stuck in.Thanks for listening and make sure to like, subscribe and follow on our social media outlets, as well as joining us on our Discord.Discord - Scottish Football ForumsBluesky - @sffpodcast.bsky.socialTwitter/X - @sffpodcastInstagram - sffpodcastTikTok - @sffpodcastFacebook - Scottish Football ForumsMastodon - @sffpodcast@mastodon.scotEmail - scottishfootballforumspodcast@gmail.com
