Greatest. Wrestling. Match. Ever Seven matches were contested at the event, including one on the Kickoff pre-show. In the main event, Randy Orton defeated Edge in what WWE billed as "The Greatest Wrestling Match Ever." In the penultimate match, Drew McIntyre defeated Bobby Lashley to retain the WWE Championship. Other prominent matches included Braun Strowman defeating The Miz and John Morrison in a Handicap match to retain the Universal Championship, and Sheamus defeating Jeff Hardy.
Dreams, Negan, Tod Pettengail Six matches were contested at the event. In the main event, Io Shirai defeated defending champion Charlotte Flair and Rhea Ripley in a triple threat match to win the NXT Women's Championship. On the undercard, Karrion Kross defeated Tommaso Ciampa by technical submission, Keith Lee defeated Johnny Gargano to retain the NXT North American Championship, and Adam Cole defeated Velveteen Dream in a Last Chance Backlot Brawl to retain the NXT Championship, which was a cinematic match.
Steiner, B2, Dead Dad The main event was the annual 30-man Royal Rumble match, which included wrestlers from both brands. Brock Lesnar defeated Big Show in the undercard to qualify for the Royal Rumble match later that night, where he entered at number twenty-nine and won the match by last eliminating The Undertaker, the thirtieth entrant. The primary match on the Raw brand was Triple H versus Scott Steiner for the World Heavyweight Championship, which Steiner won by disqualification resulting in Triple H retaining the championship. The most prominent for the SmackDown! brand was between Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit for the WWE Championship, which Angle won by making Benoit submit to the Ankle Lock.
