Historical Stockmarket trends and review to analyze what the rest of 2022 and beyond has in storeContext:The Stock Market in 2022 is off to a terrible start, with the S&P 500 down bouncing between above and below 20% (bear market), officially in a Bear Market now (June 2022). Investors in Big Tech are growing more concerned about the economic growth outlook and are pulling back from risky parts of the market that are sensitive to inflation and rising interest rates. This is a recipe for a troubled macroeconomic environment. While stock market volatility is normal in the short term, a market weakness so far in 2022 has investors worried about further downward movement. What is DEI Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion? Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are vital to creating and maintaining a successful workplace; one founded on the principle that all people can thrive personally and professionally.  It’s important to fully understand each component, both individually and how they work together. Diversity is the presence of differences that may include race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, (dis)ability, age, religious commitment, or political perspective.  Populations that have been-and remain- underrepresented among practitioners in the field and marginalized in the broader society.Equity is promoting justice, impartiality, and fairness within the procedures, processes, and distribution of resources by institutions or systems.  Tackling equity issues requires an understanding of the root causes of outcome disparities within our society.Inclusion is an outcome to ensure those that are diverse actually feel and/or are welcome.  Inclusion outcomes are met when you, your institution, and your program are truly inviting to all.  On Leap of Fate Pod 94, our guest this week, Kellie Wagner, is the founder and CEO of Collective DEI Lab. Collective DEI Lab works with high-growth, millennial-driven brands and organizations to build cultures that attract, engage, and retain underrepresented talent so that all employees can thrive. Whether companies are just starting out on their diversity, equity, and inclusion journey or simply need some help fine-tuning their company initiatives, Collective DEI Lab will provide consulting, training, and workshops.Kellie educates Leap of Fate fans on DEI, how she started Collective, a DEI Lab as a minority founder as a woman of color, and the success Collective DEI Lab has had.For anyone interested in DEI and entrepreneurship, this is the perfect podcast for you!Enjoy :) Links:Collective DEI WebsiteCollective DEI Instagram00:00 Intro- What is DEI, Kellie Wagner and Collective DEI Lab2:00 How Kellie Wagner became interested in DEI8:20 Unconscious Bias Training in corporate environments14:15 How Kelly Started Collective DEI Lab- a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Firm18:10 Key Initial Business Learnings and how Collective changed to meet customer needs23:35 Example where Collective made an impact at a customer company from their DEI work28:20 As a women minority founder, advice to other women and/or minority founders32:00 what does the future of DEI look like?34:10 Key takeaways and endingSupport the show
Have you ever wondered why word meanings change over time? Or why do people say words differently based on where they live? This is called Linguistic Evolution and we dive into this on Leap of Fate pod 93 with Valerie Fridland, who has a Ph.D. in Linguistics and teaches at the University of Nevada Reno.Linguistics is the scientific study of language.  Linguists (experts in linguistics) work on specific languages, but their primary goal is to understand the nature of language in general and how they are related or have changed over time. The main goal of linguistics, like all other intellectual disciplines, is to increase our knowledge and understanding of the world. Valerie educates Leap of Fate this week through how words change over time. Our engaging conversation ranges from her research studying words to understanding how words such as "woke", "redskin", "cap, and no cap" and more have come to be and changed over time.Use this podcast to learn how words evolve over time as it's important to be cognizant of the words you choose to say.  There may be hidden or historical meaning you aren't aware of that can create distress for others. If you say to someone, "You have a mountain to climb", you mean that it will be difficult for them to achieve what they want to achieve. One of my best friends, Nate Redman, took this metaphorically and literally by recently climbing Mount Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Western and Southern Hemisphere at ~ 23,000 ft (6,961 meters) in Argentina! In Leap of Fate Pod 88, Nate takes us through the totality of his journey and shares photos from his summit climb (they are amazing!):1. 13+ months of planning, training, preparing for this grueling 3-week expedition to reach the summit.2. The highs, lows, challenges, and success he experienced on the 3-week climb3. Reflection now that he has accomplished climbing Mount Aconcagua. Aconcagua is a mountain in the Principal Cordillera of the Andes mountain range, in Mendoza Province, Argentina. Aconcagua is one of the Seven Summits, the highest peaks on each of the seven continents. It is second in height after Mount Everest. The first known attempt to reach the mountain’s summit was made in 1883, but the attempt failed. In 1897, Swiss mountaineer Matthias Zurbriggen became the first known climber to successfully reach the summit. The altitude on Aconcagua is so extreme that a number of hikers have died from altitude sickness while trying to reach the summit. Climbers also face the challenge of high winds resulting from frequent storms. For anyone who wants to hear an amazing story of perseverance, overcoming adversity, mind over matter, and mountaineers wanting to climb Mount Aconcagua or any mountain, this is the pod for you!Enjoy yall!Nate's IG: https://www.instagram.com/nredman1104/Support the show
