In this one, we end up going deeper with the whole AI thing than we ever intended to. As it happens, news, our projects and tinkering and everything else just takes us down this path. We promise, though, it'll be worth it.
First up, Linus has gone full vibe code? Well... not really. If there's one guy that we'd expect to do a good job with shepherding an LLM to good results, it's him. But what does this mean for the Linux Kernel in the future? We'll find out.
Then, our journey into using AI-based Linux distros takes us to Makulu and Luma, but Luma turns out to still need a few weeks to bake. We'll come back to it, and in its place, Omarchy shows up. But even then, the focus strays away because Omarchy isn't really what's interesting about Omarchy!
Finally, what's next? Software development is dead... or so they say. We're still skeptical of the claim but it's hard to argue with the results. We'll follow this one along too, but at least ArtCraft is impressing some. Reverse engineering code just got scary for the big boys, but information wants to be free, right?

In this episode we start out bantering about Gentoo and how it's not ebuilding/packaging Chromium anymore!
Then, in the meat of the show, we open with Firefox and its new 'facelift' which really just turns out to be a theme you can disable, a little more on the Chromium/Gentoo front, and Orion is now DEAD?! Why?
Next up, Cloudflare is diving into the ACME protocol business and directly competing against Let's Encrypt and the others that were doing just fine by themselves. Is this just a conspiracy to upsell you?
And finally, our questions about Caddy got responses, and we have to learn a whole lot to be able to answer them. We're one step closer to deciding how we're going to solve this problem. But until then, Caddy stays crusty. More opinions wanted! Is Fedora really EVERYONE'S favorite?
James Dean will fix everything.

Today in User Space
We end up covering quite a range of topics. First up, a question. When you want to use Caddy from the distribution's repo, it can't really be Ubuntu because it's old and crusty. We talk through a few options, but want to hear from you! Fedora? Arch? Alpine? What do you recommend?
Then, three months of pent up rage, aggression, worry and ethical concerns in and around AI and LLMs. This is a bit of a ride, and it has our usual meandering vibe to it, but it brings up so many good questions that there aren't any good answers to. Underneath it all, yes, we know that there are environmental issues as well as ethical ones, but neither of those are stopping many from using the technology. So where do we go from here? Those are the questions and thoughts we get into.
And finally, Internet Explorer! Thought it was dead? Think again. It's still a zombie, but even that will come to and end in a couple of years. We use this as a springboard to talk about Orion and Servo, and take a few shots at Google because they deserve it ;)
Overall, a great show, if a little long, but a good time was had which means we're just gonna keep doing it over and over again. Hope you enjoy!

Today in User Space we start out by covering a couple of the newest Ubuntu issues. Namely, the outages, but that alone wasn't terrible, until you added update failures that prevent folks that needed to from patching themselves against Copy Fail! Some good things, too, though. PS5 Linux is bringing all the nostalgia back from the PS3 era of full Linux desktop enjoyment.
Then, we let a guest, Nate Graham of KDE, crash the back half of the show, and it goes quite long! In the first half we hear everything from why Snaps could, but ultimately don't work for KDE Linux, Printing, and the possible future cadence of the OS once there's a full release (and more, of course). We actually split the interview in two to be a little more digestible and postable later on.
In the second half of the interview, we discuss our thoughts on AI, what's good (and mostly bad) about it all, and how KDE and Nate look at submissions and humanity. What we don't need, it seems, is unenforceable policies. Then, a couple final questions like what's up with Full Disk Encryption?
Let us know if this type of thing is what you'd like to hear more of.

Today in User Space we get excited for the future of Low Profile memory with LPCAMM2 showing up lately in the Framework 13 Pro's Intel boards
giving speed and power savings we've never seen before. On paper, it's as good as the Mac unified memory, but will it actually live up to the hype on the new Intel chips?
Then, we find out Malus is out here copying open source software and adjusting it enough that it becomes... liberated? Described as 'satire,' this tool, at least on its surface, does seem to do exactly what it says on the tin. But why?
And finally, we spend a lot of time talking about Ubuntu 26.04's release, and it turns out, some of the highlights are really interesting. Password feedback lets us meander into a much longer security debate about shoulder surfing, why TPM's and encryption are good, actually, the Gnome Resources app, which is surprisingly good, but we forgot to remember about it, and then we try to figure out when the right time to update really is.
