Weak faith is a serious problem for the believer.Jesus explains it when He explains the parable of the sower in Matthew 13:20-21. He says that a person with weak faith becomes shallow, like a seed on stony places... who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself, but endures only for a while. For when tribulation or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles. That's why it is critical that our faith can withstand testing. Trials deepen our faith, test our resolve, and grow our endurance. And that endurance develops our character as individuals and as believers.Join me for this practical, special lagniappe edition as we explore why God allows our faith to be tested, the difference between tests and temptations, and how we can endure both to the glory of God!(RAR2026EP12)
Jesus explained that the way to be happy is to do this one thing that He did....And that is to serve His disciples.Today on Rinse and Repeat, we continue our "One Another" series with how we are to serve one another, and how living life for others is the true key to human satisfaction!(RAR2026EP11)
Do you sometimes struggle with loving other people in the body of Christ?Be honest - maybe you love them because you are commanded to do so, but it is hard, because you really don't like them! The Lord cared very much about how we, as believers, treat one another. So much so, that He gives the command that we "love one another," not once, not twice, but three times as recorded in the Gospel of John.Today, Rinse and Repeat embarks on a brand new, 10-part series on the "One Another" statements of the New Testament, which cover so much right truth, including how we are to love one another, serve one another, be kind to one another, be hospitable to one another, and so much more!Turn your Bibles to John 13, as we explore today what it means to love one another, as Jesus loved us. What that actually means may surprise us!!(RAR2026EP10)
This week I felt like I was using a ladle to try to save the Titanic.I wish I were exaggerating. But so many of my people are struggling in serious ways, and I spend so much time, feeling like I juggle from encouraging this one, to that one, to this one, and I am really NOT helping anyone. And then the Lord spoke to me, so clearly, so directly, through His Word, in Psalm 27:13-14 -I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!In this episode, I offer a message of encouragement if you feel like you are drowning, like I did this week! Take heart, God is faithful, and you WILL see the goodness of the Lord in this life! (RAR2026EP09)
Conquerors in battle fight and win.But Romans 8:37 tells us that we are MORE than conquerors. The great news there is perhaps unexpected. We are MORE than conquerors because the Lord fought on our behalf - the fight against sin, the fight against Satan, and HE WON, once and for all, forever!!Today, we conclude our series on Romans 8 with this remarkable passage, "Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
"If God is for us, who can be against us?"Romans 8:31b offers us a tremendous hope - a question that is both rhetorical, but also that has an answer. Think about it! No one really can stand against us, if God is for us, and yet there is one who regularly TRIES to do so - the enemy of our souls! In today's episode, I explore what it means that God is FOR us, that He fights for us! I also explore how to recognize attacks of the enemy and how the Lord's work in our lives aids us in overcoming satan's attacks.Turn your Bibles to Romans 8:31, as we draw closer to the conclusion of this incredible chapter of Scripture!!
And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.Romans 8:28 may be the most quoted and perhaps the most misunderstood promise in Scripture, and today we explore its great depth by examining the passage word-for-word. After that close-up look at the verse, we come to understand the importance of the doctrines of predestination and agency, and their roles in the unfolding of God's great plan for us.
Have you ever been in so much turmoil you couldn't even pray? You just found yourself screaming, but not necessarily knowing what to even say to God?If we are honest, we may find ourselves in this place more often than we know. The fact is - prayer does not always come easily. We are often distracted. We are busy. It is hard to quiet our souls, and to even know where to start and how to pray. But that is why today's passage in Romans 8 is so critically relevant - Romans 8:26-27Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
Beloved, are you suffering in some way now or have you recently?Has a friend left you? Is a job gone? Has a life change created turmoil, and you just don't see a way through?Join us as we continue our study in Romans chapter 8 today, as this passage in Romans 8:18 offers us GREAT hope:For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. (RAR2026EP03)
There is a HUGE difference between living as an enslaved person of a household, and living as a son or a daughter of that household. An enslaved person has the will of the master FORCED upon him. He has no rights, is often mistreated, and is required to do what is commanded of him.Whereas a son or a daughter is at home in that same household, is part of that family, has a vested interest in how things go, and sees the benefit of obeying the authority - not just doing so to avoid punishment.Romans 8:15 says, "For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”We have two spirits to choose from: one that is bondage, and the result of choosing that spirit is FEAR. The other spirit is one of adoption, of being a child of God, and the result of choosing that spirit is the ability to call God Papa, Daddy!
While doing a brief cardio workout with weight may make sense, in order to build strength, it certainly would NOT make sense to run a marathon with weights on our hands and legs. In fact, long-distance runners need to run as unencumbered as possible. And the same is true for us as believers. We need to set aside EVERY single weight that might hinder us in our race with Christ.Hebrews 12:1-3:Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.A believer needs to do three specific things to run effectively:1- lay aside every weight and sin that ensnares,2- run with endurance, and3- look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!Join me for a special episode that explores how we have fresh eyes for our race with Christ!(RAR2026EP01)
Jesus did something we often overlook when He came to earth. He emptied Himself. He emptied Himself of all the rights and privileges of being the Son of God, seated at the right hand of Majesty in Heaven. He remained fully God and fully man, but emptied Himself of the glory of BEING God as He walked the earth.Philippians 2:7-11 tells us that He “made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”Jesus’ emptying Himself has a HUGE impact on what is happening in your life and mine, right now, at this very moment, because of what Jesus is doing on our behalf in Heaven right now, at this moment! Did you know that Jesus is in Heaven right now, interceding for you? He is also preparing a place for you, right now! And that’s not all…Join me for this lagniappe edition as we learn to follow Jesus’ example, the glory of being empty to be full this season!(RAR2025EP52)
"You can take him at his word.""You have my word for it."These idioms teach us that a person's word MATTERS, and tells us so much about who they actually are, about their integrity.John 1:14 tells us that, "the Word became flesh and dwelt among us." Jesus Christ is the very Word of God, and reveals to us God's heart, His character, nature, and great love for us!!And even more than that, God's Word came, and dwelt among us, and "of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace..." (John 1:16). The coming of the Word of God means we go from one grace God gave us in the Old Testament to an even greater grace in the New - and THAT is the very heart of the coming of Jesus!!Join me for this special lagniappe edition, looking at why the incarnation matters so very much!(RAR2025EP51)
This week I learned the horrific news that my cousin, Jack Fanous, went home to be with the Lord suddenly and unexpectedly.Jack tirelessly fought for the rights of U.S. Armed Forces Veterans, raising awareness and support for their housing, employment, and mental health needs through his organization, the G.I. Go Fund (gigofund.org). Amazingly, over the past two years, Jack was also on a quest for spiritual discovery, and he read the Scriptures at least three times, cover to cover. He was changed by reading God's Word, which motivated today's lagniappe edition of Rinse and Repeat, "I Want to Live Like Jack."I was studying Psalm 119 as I mourned Jack, and was struck by how much God's Word, celebrated in this psalm, protects us and directs our lives. In fact, the more I meditated on the psalm, the more I knew God was speaking to me about why God's Word is imperative in our lives, and how to live like Jack.Join me for this truly personal, special edition of Rinse and Repeat.(RAR2025EP49)
Imagine being set free, TRULY free, from condemnation?Imagine being set free from all sin - sin in our past, in our present, in our future? We don't have to imagine it, because that is PRECISELY the truth of a believer's life in Christ. We are set free from guilt and shame, set free to "go and sin no more" (John 8:11).Today, I begin a brand new series in the most significant passage of Scripture, Romans Chapter 8, where we read, "There is now therefore no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus."Join me as we being this incredible new journey in this remarkable passage of Scripture!(RAR2025EP47)
There is power in confession. James 5:16 tells us, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”Romans 10:9-10 tells us “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”From these two passages alone, God clearly connects confession with healing and salvation! But why should we care about the regular practice of confession? To learn more, tune in to this special langiappe episode of Rinse and Repeat!!(RAR2025EP46)
It is the single greatest statement of faith in the entire Bible, in my humble opinion.Daniel 3:17-18, "If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”Three young men refuse to bow to the golden graven image of the king, and are about to be thrown into the fiery furnace. They boldly proclaim their firm belief that God will deliver them through that fire - BUT IF NOT, they still will not capitulate to the culture's pressure to bow to an idol! And, as the scene unfolds, they experience "another in the fire," the Son of Man, a Christophany in the Old Testament, there in the fire with them. This is just one of the remarkable examples we explore today as we conclude this life-changing chapter in Hebrews 11 and bid farewell to a good friend, our series "Great Faith in Our Great God."(RAR2025EP45)
The judge, priest, and prophet Samuel said some unforgettable words. In 1 Samuel 3:9, he said in response to the Lord's call:Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears. This response represented the posture of Samuel's heart for his entire life. He wanted to listen and to obey the words of the Lord, and Samuel was a great man of faith, willing to have difficult conversations, willing to do hard things as led by the Lord!Join me as we soon draw our study in Hebrews 11 to a close, with this great man of God, Samuel!!(RAR2025EP44)
If God is all-powerful (omnipotent), all-knowing (omniscient), and all-reigning (sovereign), then why should human beings pray? What is the ultimate point of prayer, if God will do His will in the end?Today on Rinse and Repeat, we address these critical questions about prayer, taking a look especially at what prayer does in the lives of believers. In addition to exploring WHY we pray, I also address when, where, and even ways in which we can seek the Lord in prayer. Also, this episode opens up with some truly exciting news for all R&R listeners and supporters!!! So don't miss this special, lagniappe edition.
So far, we may have been surprised by some of the inclusions in Hebrews 11 - complicated men like Samson, Jacob, and Gideon - and men we may not know a lot about, like Jephthah. But today's man of God, David, comes as NO surprise. Here is a man after God's own heart, a man who sought to honor God and from whom Jesus Himself would one day come! And yet, David is himself a man of many shortcomings and complications. David sinned with Bathsheba, when he lied and murdered to cover up that sin, when he numbered the people, and when he failed to address issues within his own family (as with Tamar and Absalom, for example). Turn with me to 1 and 2 Samuel and Psalm 51, as we learn just as much from David's failings as we do from his successes in our quest to walk by faith through Hebrews 11!(RAR2025EP42)
