*This episode was originally recorded live. Day 8 of the Kouri Richins trial delivered the moment everyone knew was coming — the paramour took the stand. In this episode, we break down the emotional testimony from Josh Grossman as jurors watched intimate text messages between him and Kouri play out on a courtroom screen, including declarations of love, dreams of a future together, and one chilling message sent the morning Eric Richins died. We walk through the texts, the tears on the witness stand, and what prosecutors appear to be building around motive. Plus, we hear from the paramour himself after he reached out to Hidden True Crime mid-livestream.

In this episode, we break down one of the most technical — but potentially revealing — days of the Kouri Richins trial. Day 7 focused almost entirely on the finances, as a forensic accountant walked the jury through thousands of records showing mounting debt, bounced checks, payday lenders pulling daily payments, and what prosecutors say was a financial situation spiraling out of control in the months before Eric Richins’ death. We slow everything down and explain the complicated money trail step-by-step — from the HELOC and failed house flips to the Midway mansion deal, tax filings, and the $1.3 million in life insurance that was quickly spent after Eric died. And as we mark March 3rd — the night Eric likely died — we take a moment to remember the father of three at the center of this case before unpacking the testimony that prosecutors say points to motive.

Day six of the Kouri Richins trial was a digital deep dive — and it seriously challenged the defense’s accidental overdose narrative. In this episode, we unpack explosive Google searches about wiping iPhones, retrieving deleted texts, life insurance payouts, prisons, and FBI electronic analysis — alongside hundreds of deleted messages and app-based communications that vanished during the critical January–March 2022 window. We break down the minute-by-minute phone movement the night Eric died, the 87-minute Valentine’s Day gap on Eric’s device, and the cell tower data tying Carmen and Robert Crozier’s movements to key dates. Plus, we finally watch Crozier’s original police interview — and what he says there doesn’t entirely match his testimony on the stand. From forensic pathology with Dr. Erik Christensen to motive testimony about prenups and financial fear, today was layered, technical, and heavy. And when you zoom out? The digital breadcrumbs paint a picture the jury can’t easily ignore.

Day five of the Kouri Richins trial wasn’t about pills — it was about credibility, motive, and whether the state’s star witnesses are starting to unravel. In this episode, we break down the intense cross-examination of Carmen Lauber, whose timeline of alleged drug purchases shifted under pressure, and the stunning testimony of Robert Crozier, who flatly told the jury he never sold Carmen fentanyl — only oxycodone. From immunity deals and paused drug court to pricing arguments, conflicting affidavits, and whether detectives shaped key details over time, the math suddenly isn’t mathing. The prosecution tried to steady the ship on redirect, but with inconsistent memories, evolving statements, and a second dealer contradicting the fentanyl narrative, the courtroom energy shifted in a way that could change everything.

Today began with measurements, missed vehicle searches, and questions about why key evidence only appeared after private investigator tips — but everything shifted when the witness the jury has been waiting for finally took the stand. In this episode, we break down continued cross-examination of crime scene tech Chelsea Gipson, including what wasn’t searched, what wasn’t tested, and why investigators returned to the home nearly ten times. Then we dive into the explosive testimony of Carmen Lauber — the woman the state says sourced the fentanyl. From immunity deals and deleted messages to alleged cash drops, Maverik meet-ups, and the “Michael Jackson stuff,” the jury heard detailed claims tying Kouri to multiple pill purchases. But the defense came hard on credibility — highlighting shifting memories, prior inconsistent statements, incentives to cooperate, and whether Carmen’s story evolved under pressure. We also address the unexpected juror sketching incident that led to someone being removed from the courtroom. Day four was messy, intense, and credibility-driven — and cross-examination isn’t over yet.

Day three of the Kouri Richins trial was unexpectedly short — but not before one stray comment triggered an immediate sidebar and a direct instruction to the jury to “put it out of their minds.” In this episode, we break down the moment a reference to “jail calls” prompted the defense to move to strike it, why the judge stepped in, and whether it could realistically impact the trial. We also unpack the cross-examination of crime scene tech Chelsea Gipson, including what was never photographed, what was never tested — most notably the hydrocodone bottle — and why that detail could become a key defense talking point. Even on a short day, the strategic moves inside that courtroom mattered.

Day two of the Kouri Richins trial brought sharp challenges from the defense as they zeroed in on timeline discrepancies, crime scene procedure, and what law enforcement did—and didn’t—document that morning. We break down tense cross-examinations of first responders, powerful EMT testimony about Eric’s unusual body position, and the critical autopsy findings confirming a toxic level of fentanyl—while the manner of death remains officially undetermined. We also unpack the nuanced toxicology details, including alcohol in gastric contents and untouched naltrexone, and why those points could matter strategically for the jury. If you want the clearest, most thorough breakdown of what happened in court today, we’ve got you covered.

After nearly four years of twists, motions, and relentless speculation, the trial of Kouri Richins is finally underway—and day one did not disappoint. In this episode, we break down the explosive opening statements from both sides in the death of Eric Richins, who was found with five times the lethal dose of fentanyl in his system inside the couple’s Utah home. Prosecutors allege a calculated murder fueled by financial collapse, a secret boyfriend, life insurance policies, and a “fresh start” motive—laying out damning text messages, deleted phone data, alleged pill purchases, and claims of a staged 911 call. The defense counters with a dramatically different narrative: a grieving widow, a flawed investigation, mishandled evidence, family interference, and a manner of death still officially listed as undetermined. From emotional testimony by Eric’s father and sister to tense cross-examinations about trusts, life insurance, divorce plans, and who really controlled the narrative from day one, we walk you through every key moment of testimony, the body cam footage, and the battle over what happened between 9:00 p.m. and 3:00 a.m. This is where the state must prove its case—and where reasonable doubt takes center stage.

Vinnie shares rare personal insight as someone who knows Savannah Guthrie, adding important context as they walk through what has been confirmed and what remains unclear. They talk about the authenticity of the alleged ransom note, whether a family would realistically pay a ransom, and what law enforcement may be weighing as a reported vehicle of interest draws attention. They also explore a critical possibility: what it means for the investigation if this is not a true ransom scenario at all.

Lauren you are spot on with your statements. You are amazing. ❤
Most people who have depression are distorting reality when they say things like they're a horrible person and the world would be better off without them. In Lucy Letby's case, she was speaking the truth.
I'm so glad I listened to this, because even after reading about the crimes that Jodi Hildebrandt was arrested for, I had no idea how insidious this woman really is. I'm so glad she's finally in prison where she belongs.
She certainly knows what to say in a sentencing statement. Her lawyers must have given her really good advice. Criminal defendants should take note

I love you Anna! I love how you are showing how these people manipulate others. Thank you for sharing this.
This is a fascinating episode. HTC never fails to leave me new insights.
I have so many comments about this episode ! a lot of what she said contradicts what ex flds woman have spoken out about recently.
Sorry, Lori have her children killed - to get a rid of them and not to send them to a better place. She did it with her ex husbands.
I really love this podcast. I stumbled upon it and I'm glad I did. If I had one piece of feedback, however, it would be that I wish they did a little more prep for ad breaks. It's quite jarring to be listening along and then have an abrupt cut to an ad without warning. otherwise, love it!
oh my god! this podcast is like therapy to me and I love it and I'm blown away by it
Oh my goodness! I just listened to the first episode. John has this amazing monologue about his son at the end and it just really touched me. Like just really was meaningful to me. Anyway, I'm excited for the rest of the podcast!
I watched a physic who says she connects with the spirit world and this is before they found the kids. and she said exactly how they died what they did to the bodies and everything. and what she saw was it was Alex who and his lovely sister so yes it was her not Chad. she said how he dismembered Caylee but would do it again because he didn't think it would have been so messy. so that's why they didn't dispose of the 2and child the same way. and then they found the kids and it was exactly what that wonan saw.
This lady is a bit batshit to be honest.. I'm athiest. I can respect people's right to believe any B. S they want.. I dont respect the belief.. The bible is full of horrors but yet that's the book yous live by..
Oh good grief, your podcast is so dry. I am a retired therapist. The research is essential but OMG...
