One of the reasons why most Late Identified Autistics are struggling to identify emotions and not able to easily put words to all the feelings and often the simultaneous experience of feeling nothing is due to something called Alexithymia. Often autistics with alexithymia are not sure what to do or how to get to the root or word of a feeling and this can often lead to overwhelm, shutdown and autistic burnout because this can use great amounts of energy to not know how to identify and communicate how you are feeling to yourself and to others. In this episode, we’re going to talk about how to connect the feelings in our body to the emotions in our minds, how we can better identify them, and meet a firefly named Gem who will speak to your heart and will help you begin a path to easier connection to your emotions through her adventures & story.  I am joined today by master storyteller and author of the Gem's Island Adventure series, Katie Soy. So if this interests you please join us for this conversation. ******* I am excited to share the new feature on SPOTIFY with our Fans today, this episode is now available in its video version on the Spotify podcast platform along with additional POLL features. Today we are talking all about Self Care and more specifically about Self Talk. The concept of Self Talk is pretty basic. You may have heard me talk about this concept before, but I am willing to bet that if you are a Struggling Burnout Autistic Newbie and finding yourself going from unplugging to recuperate to feeling a bit better only to end up back in the burnout trap a few weeks or months later, you don’t really understand what Self Care is or how to implement it in your life to keep off that Burnout Loop of Death. I am willing to bet that you don’t have a Self Care Plan from the Inside out that includes Self Caring Self Talk. Learn how to use the Thought Thermostat in your Self Care Plan from The Inside Out in today’s episode so that you can: - gain energy from your thoughts vs feeling drained and in that constant state of “fight or flight” - lower stress levels which may also increase immune function and help create better sleep Registration for the Part 2 Self Care Workshop on Friday, Sept 24th at 3pm EST (If you can’t make it live but would like the REPLAY via email you MUST be REGISTERED) https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZcrc-isrzspEteEwswkgafEtwf2XvSK_979 Listen HERE: https://anchor.fm/socialautie Watch HERE: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC73lo4QgCCkClj7sFm_mrZA Mind Your Autistic Brain Talk Show hosted by The Social Autie, that’s me, Carole Jean.  I am a late identified, adult autistic and each week I have a conversation with another late identified autistic, who shares their voice, experiences and journey with you. Today’s interview is #3 in the “Back to School” Series for August.  Would having an extra 5 minutes to leave class early and get to your next class have made a difference for you in school?  Would knowing where the “quiet spaces” were ahead of time made lunch time or breaks less stressful for you?  Vicky and I are sharing loads of tips and insights with you today on how to find accommodations in school, but these translate to the workplace and to our everyday lives too.  You can still access and find accommodations without a formal diagnosis and we share these as well. I was so happy that I had found my tribe. After a few months I realised that the #actuallyautistic community is another bullying group where a few want to establish their storyline and anything that deviates from that must be silenced. Black and white thinking is not that great... Nevertheless, I enjoyed this episode. Keep up the good work.
