Hello our fierce fems. This week, we discuss our feelings about the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the effect of how social media influences our beliefs, and the general feeling of impending doom. We didn't bring a story this week, as it felt disingenuous and disconnected from the world around us right now. Join us for a vent session and a vulnerable discussion of our thoughts and feelings. Fierce Fems will be off for the next few weeks and then will be back better than ever. 

Hey. What up. It's the Fierce Fems Podcast, back in action. This week, our fierce fems talk about some exciting personal matters before Courtney dives into the main story of the week: Lucy Hicks Anderson. Lucy was one of the first documented black trans women in American history and is known as the first story of a trans person fighting for their right to marry whom they chose. The fems also discuss some of the challenges facing black trans women, and honors some of the women lost this year to violence. Jordan brings our Woman of the Week, Adhara Perez, an 8-year-old who is already getting 2 degrees in engineering! Join us to learn about these amazing women!

Our fems are back fiercer than ever this week. Jordan tells the story of Theresa Kachindamoto, the terminator of child marriage, who has helped free an incredible number of girls from child marriage and has fostered their education to stop the cycle of child marriage in its tracks. Courtney brings the woman of the week, Ronit Kirshner Gerard, the co-founder of Stone Soup PDX. At Stone Soup, Ronit and her husband (along with some other amazing people) train those at high risk of homelessness in the food and hospitality industries, helping them get jobs that can support themselves and their families. Listen in for some laughs, some information, and as always, talkin' tea.

Courtney covers the horrific Nanking Massacre and the incredible story of Wilhelmina "Minnie" Vautrin. Minnie gave everything she had and more to protect women and girls at Ginling College during the six brutal weeks of the massacre and was responsible for saving over 10,000 Chinese citizens. Our gals discuss the importance of acknowledging uncomfortable realities in order to fight against them, in both the past and present, before Jordan inspires us with our Woman of the Week. Our WOW is Maya Ghazal, who became the first-ever Syrian refugee pilot this August. Join us for the laughs, stay for the stories of empowering women. 

Why hello there. Our gals are back swinging with a hot off the press episode of Fierce Fems. This week, Jordan covers the story of Maureen Kanka. When Maureen's daughter Megan was murdered, Maureen turned this unthinkable tragedy into something which has benefited many across the United States. She and her husband Richard worked tirelessly to advocate for Megan's Law. In the years since Megan's death, they have helped countless families in their time of need. Our Woman of the Week is Giovanna "Gia" Fuda, an 18-year-old woman who was found alive after 9 days missing in the Washington wilderness. Join us to learn about these incredible women, and, as always, so much more. 

Our fierce fems are getting fiercer and feistier in this week's episode. Our ladies start with a discussion of the Colorado forest fires, a fix-it from last week, and an announcement about the format of the pod going forward. Things get political when Courtney tells the story of Senator and Vice Presidential nominee, Kamala Harris, as our main story. Our Woman of the Week is Cori Bush, a congressional nominee from Missouri. Our gals finish up by discussing the importance of voting in the upcoming election, as well as easy ways to register and vote during the pandemic. 

Oh hey. It's your girls: Jordan and Courtney. This week, the fierce fems discuss two discrimination rights advocates. Jordan begins with the story of Elizabeth Peratovich, an Indigenous woman whose advocacy lead to the first anti-discrimination law in the United States. Courtney tells us about Carrie Ann Lucas, a disability rights activist whose tireless work lead to protections for those with disabilities who are trying to adopt children. Our ladies finish with their woman of the week (woOOoow): Erica Chidi, doula, co-founder of LOOM, and venture capitalist. Join them for laughs, tears (yes...actual tears), and to learn about some powerful women. 

This week, our ladies are back and ready to chat about fierce fems, and whatever else strikes their fancy (including a discussion on what it means to be a modern feminist, board games, and the air quality in New Zealand). More importantly, Courtney and Jordan discuss two scholars: Jane Goodall and Rosalind Franklin. Dr. Goodall is known for being the world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, as well as for being an environmental and animal rights activist. Rosalind Franklin's work on DNA imaging changed the landscape of research on the topic, culminating in the famous Photo 51. Join them for the most fun way to learn about powerful women on this side of the Mississippi. 

Jordan and Courtney are back, telling stories and making puns on Fierce Fems. This week, our ladies discuss some life tips and COVID woes before delving into their stories. Jordan tells the tale of Rattlesnake Kate, a Colorado woman who killed 140 rattlesnakes to save herself and her son. Courtney discusses the life of the best of wives and women, Eliza Schuyler Hamilton, founding mother and philanthropist.  They finish with their Woman of the Week, Joanna Cole, author of "The Magic School Bus" who passed away last week. 

Courtney and Jordan are back in episode 2 to discuss living in the time of Covid-19, haircuts, and most importantly...women who made an impact on the lives of thousands. This week, Courtney covers the story of Policarpa Salavarrieta, also known as La Pola, a hero of the Columbian Revolution, and Jordan covers the amazing life of Maude Evelyn Callen, a midwife who brought healthcare to those who had been forgotten. They also discuss Woman of the Week, Madeline Swegle, the first black female fighter pilot in the U.S. Navy.

Jordan and Courtney start off strong in their first episode, covering the stories of Martha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera and the Stonewall Uprising, followed by the story of the Night Witches. They also discuss the tragedies of Summer Taylor and Diaz Love in Seattle, and the recent Louisiana Supreme Court ruling on reproductive rights. They end with their woman of the week- Shatzi Weisberger.
