Episode Summary:
Last week we learned about Lavinia Fontana and this week we step back for a bird's eye look at the steep societal ladder she climbed. Women in Western Europe's Renaissance faced monumental systemic barriers to practicing art but some were able to push through. Even after triumphing over obstacles during their lives, today's art history leaves most of their work attributed to men or disintegrating in attics. Learn about some of these women as well as a non-profit trying to reinsert them in the historical narrative as we discover why it's so difficult for people in 2021 to think of four women Ninja Turtle equivalents.

Episode Summary:
Last week we learned about Bernice Bing and this week we zoom out for a look at a social space she frequented. The circle of women abstract expressionists living and working in San Francisco experienced a dearth of national attention due to their great physical distance from New York. Also a direct result of that physical and financial distance, their creative practices were allowed much greater creative freedom.

We know two weeks is a long time to wait, especially in 2020! Minisodes are coming!!!
Artsy Fartsy is working bringing you "the outtakes." In this minisode, Jaymee takes Taylor on the very un-researched and full history of the Apostle Paul. In the process of build Artsy Fartsy, there is plenty that we record, but gets cut in order for us to keep episodes under an hour. We hope you enjoy a little bit of history, albeit NOT art history.
There are no resources for this minis ode. Literally none. So correct away friends- we know we got stuff wrong!
