An apology by the Mormon church is needed for...a lot of things. It’s the only hope for them to even slightly stop the bleeding of millennial and gen z Mormons. Also, listen to this https://www.mormonstories.org/podcast/mormon-faith-crisis-stake-fireside-patrick-mason-in-logan-cache-valley-utah-2021/
A lot of thoughts about what it means to be an LGBTQ ally and “faithful” Mormon.
So many thoughts from the last few months. I try to get them out here. Who knows how well I’ve done.
I’m reading from these two things. You may want to follow along. https://newsroom.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/president-oaks-byu-devotional-october-2020-talk https://www.deseret.com/opinion/2020/9/18/21439917/generation-z-young-adults-activism-social-justice-movements-black-lives-matter
Mormon ppl idolize those who “hold to the rod” even when confronted with contradicting facts. Believing the unbelievable shouldn’t be idolized. Anyway, more on this in this episode. Also here’s the link I mentioned. V good. https://jonogden.medium.com/a-letter-to-trump-supporting-latter-day-saints-8094ed648f57
When loyalty to an institution takes precedent over your love for people, there is a problem. This episode explores that a little bit more in depth

Bishops interviews are... not good. Way too.much damage can occur for very, very little “benefits”.

Super super important reading from a therapist on masturbation. https://www.patheos.com/blogs/mormontherapist/2012/08/my-official-stance-on-masturbation.html/amp
Audio from an instagram live I did where I spill the tea on my spiritual abuse from seminary read the letters that threatened me with my job. Read the letters at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1qzBUNftzhUCp1R2-fktd5ry_egZQ5TYd/view?usp=sharing
The critiques that Mormon leaders and the Mormon church in general receive are because of the high standards they have set themselves up for. We can lower the critiques if they lower the rhetoric. Otherwise, it is deserved.
We made it to 10 episodes! Let’s celebrate by talking about a phrase I hate almost more than anything else!
Poelman secretly changed talk: http://www.lds-mormon.com/poelman.shtml
Good quote: It is not charity or kindness to endure any type of abuse or unrighteousness that may be inflicted on us by others. God’s commandment that as we love him, we must respect ourselves, suggests we must not accept disrespect from others. It is not charity to let another repeatedly deny our divine nature and agency. It is not charity to bow down in despair and helplessness. That kind of suffering should be ended
Thesis: Modern Mormonism is built on the foundation of “prophets” and that foundation will never be strong enough to resist the storms facing the church today.
Exhibit A: This article (read at your own risk) https://latterdaysaintmag.com/how-should-we-respond-if-we-think-a-former-prophet-said-something-wrong/
It is not the anger of other women that will destroy us but our refusals to stand still, to listen to its rhythms, to learn within it, to move beyond the manner of presentation to the substance, to tap that anger as an important source of empowerment.
———
And my anger is no excuse for not dealing with your blindness, no reason to withdraw from the results of your own actions.
———
The angers between women will not kill us if we can articulate them with precision, if we listen to the content of what is said with at least as much intensity as we defend ourselves against the manner of saying. When we turn from anger we turn from insight, saying we will accept only the designs already known, deadly and safely familiar. I have tried to learn my anger’s usefulness to me, as well as its limitations.
———
CONTENTION IS SO MUCH DIFFERENT THAN ANGER!!!

contention is wrong because it is BETWEEN PEOPLE. Anger actually resolves issues between people. Contention drives people apart. Eye rolling is more impactful than anger on divorce rates! Also, PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR ANGER AND YOUR JOY. YOUR PARTICULAR CALLING IS LIKELY AT THAT INVITATIONAL INTERSECTION. -Sarah Bessel

If you avoid the conflict to keep the peace you start a war inside yourself.

Practice compassion, not idiot compassion
Mormons love to use the suffering of Jesus as a way to compel obedience. I don’t think this is a healthy thing.

Givens article

Way too many Mormon people proudly claim that they have a COMPLETE understanding of god. Not only that, but most of these people say they don’t just *believe* these things, they KNOW them. In this way, they damn themselves from so much growth and needed change that should be theirs. See here (or, better yet, don’t) for more: https://www.thechurchnews.com/living-faith/2019-12-15/elder-tad-r-callister-members-church-latter-day-saints-169646
Instead, go buy this book and read it ASAP. It will change your life. https://shop.homeboyindustries.org/products/tattoos-on-the-heart-gfjk
I also referenced this book as well. https://www.amazon.com/God-Who-Weeps-Mormonism-Makes/dp/1629723908
But seriously, just go read Tattoos on the Heart. (It’s also on Amazon but Bezos is a mess 😊)
Also a good podcast on that Elder Poelman’s re-recorded talk I mentioned http://infantsonthrones.com/a-tale-of-two-poelmans/ and a link to the talk with the changes marked https://rationalfaiths.com/changing-the-word-of-god/
This statement is true whether one joins the Mormon church or leaves it. Let’s start acting like it.
A dictionary defines a pioneer as ‘one who goes before to prepare or open up the way for others to follow.’ Can we somehow muster the courage and steadfastness of purpose that characterized the pioneers of a former generation? Can you and I, in actual fact, be pioneers?
“I know we can be. Oh, how the world needs pioneers today!”
Link to the podcast I mentioned (it’s SO good!) https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/313-murderous-times-mormon-reformation-lindsay-hansen/id554619835?i=1000456776126
We ALL pick and choose what we obey, whether we like to admit that or not.
Also, follow Jesus and wear a damn mask.
Lol. Seriously don’t read this.
