Welcome to our second episode on our deep dive into all things ground related. We had a great conversation with the man, the myth, and the legend of ground himself - Randy Spraggins. Randy has helped turn arenas around to record setting conditions like Salt Lake City and Cheyenne, he has prepared some of the biggest events like The American and the NFR, and recently just managed the Pink Buckle ground which was incredible this last week. We dove into rodeo preparation and the challenges committees need to overcome and we hope you learn from this episode like we did on everything that has to be thought of to get conditions to the best they can be.

As the fall sales kick off we wanted to do a deep dive into the horse market and thought there was no better person to discuss it with than Danyelle Campbell. We talked about everything - pricing, deciding value, preparation for sales, auctions vs public sales, marketing stallions, purchasing embryos, you name it! This conversation is packed with knowledge from someone who has been there and done that in our industry and we are excited to share it with all of our listeners!

This week, we are starting a deep dive on the most important thing a barrel racer needs to be successful in competition - great ground. In the first of hopefully a trio of episodes with some of the most knowledgeable tractor men in the game we had the opportunity to talk to Jake Van of the Wilderness circuit and Blackhawk Arena of Salina, UT on his thoughts behind what it takes to make an arena the best it can be. Ground is much more complicated than simply running a tractor over a patch of dirt as you will hear in this episode. We hope you share this with all your barrel racing friends - knowledge is key to success with any barrel racing ground!

A few weeks back, at the Royal Crown Horse Sale - Kayla spent the evening with one of everyone's favorite trainers, Ashley Schafer, just discussing, well, everything. Ashley is one of our most requested guests and we thought this would be a fun episode with her. From payouts to ground conditions, exhibitions and mental strength, thoughts on incentives and social media madness and more. They had an idea to do it again but this time hit the record button for our podcast. DISCLAIMER - This episode is opinion based and is more like sitting around a table with two friends discussing industry topics. Hopefully you enjoy and if you disagree that's perfectly fine - we aren't saying anyone is right or wrong, we are just discussing our thoughts.

Taycie Matthews is using her experience growing up in the IPRA ranks and the lessons learned during her 2022 rookie season to her advantage this year as she chases her first NFR qualification. Currently sitting 5th in the world standings with just a month to go, we got the chance to talk to Taycie on a rare day off while she's in the Northwest wrapping up the season. We will be rooting to see Taycie's name officially in the Top 15 as of September 30th and after listening to this we think you will too.

Summer Kosel made her splash in the national rodeo scene last year setting the arena record at the Cheyenne Frontier Days. This year she's kept up her winning ways and kept going through the ups and downs to currently be in the top 15! This Badlands Circuit cowgirl and mom of 4 didn't venture much outside her circuit before her main horse, Apollo, had different ideas. They broke their own arena record again this year at Cheyenne and are coming off a win at Sikeston this last weekend and we can't wait to cheer them on in the last 6 weeks of the season!

Sue Smith is a true champion in our sport and has trained some of the best horses we've watched run down the alley. From the futurity world to the NFR, we have seen her win, and in the month of July she won almost $45,000. Winning Ogden, Nampa and Cheyenne with an arena record setting run, Sue is pushing to pursue another NFR qualification this year. We could have multiple podcasts with Sue on all things training, but this conversation really lets us in on her background, the first horses that made such a big impact in her career, the hardships she has had to overcome and some of the highlights of her career with her outstanding mare, Dash's Centerfold. We're cheering for Sue to finish up in the top 15 this year and hope you enjoy this conversation!

Since we started The Money Barrel Podcast, so many of you, the listeners, have asked questions about incentive programs, or asked for an episode about current incentives. Kayla took some time to really look into as many of the incentives as she could and bring you a ton of information. From the Royal Crown, to the Buckles, from the diamond classic, to our very own Colorado Classic, Kayla really digs into so many events. Our goal on this episode is to hopefully give you some insight into which of these incentives best fits you and your program, but it is important that you look into the incentives you are interested in yourself. There is a ton of information out there, and we know that so many of these incentive producers would be glad to help you get a better understanding of their events and how you can get involved, so don't forget to do your homework.

Brandon Myers has a way with horses that very few in our industry do, and his understanding of them and desire to always learn more is something truly unique. When we asked him to be on our podcast he wanted to make one thing absolutely clear - the way he interacts with and views horses comes from a life journey and obstacles rarely talked about on public platforms. Our goal has always been to share the real life stories of those making an impact in our industry and Brandon is no different. In this podcast we talk about addiction and alcoholism in depth, accidents and traumatic brain injuries and learning how he navigated these hardships and obstacles to get onto the path Brandon is on today.
We believe his insight and story is one that is so valuable to share.

We had the opportunity to catch up with Rainey Skelton this week during a few days break for her during the busy July rodeo season. Currently navigating her way through her WPRA rookie year, Rainey is no stranger to success in the rodeo arena - from growing up on the rodeo road travelling with her parents, to her own accomplishments that include winning $60,000 and her WCRA World Championship title back in 2021. We were able to talk about everything from the highs to the lows, overcoming mental blocks, horse injuries, resetting goals, sponsorships, you name it! We hope you enjoy!

As most of you know, our other side gig is the Colorado Classic Futurity and Maturity that was just held last week. We were able to sit down with Brandon Cullins and Emily Efurd and it was a laid back, fun, honest look into the lives of these two incredible trainers and their program. Brandon has won over a million dollars in his career with countless big time wins and big time horses trained on his resume. Emily was a WPRA Rookie of the Year turned futurity trainer and both of them combined to win over $100,000 between our event and the Ruby Buckle the following week. Emily even won the Ruby Buckle Futurity! This will definitely be an episode we will try to have a follow up for so once you listen, if you have any questions, send them our way!
Dr. Marvin Beeman has been a practicing performance equine veterinarian for over 65 years. His knowledge and reputation is unmatched in the industry and this episode is truly special, getting to talk to him about the advances in equine vet medicine over the last 6 decades and some of his favorite moments in his career. We are honored to have had the opportunity to sit down and talk with the legendary vet.

When we released our Patreon subscriber exclusive episode a few months ago and asked our listeners what veterinary questions they wanted to have answered - there were countless questions about bleeding and Lasix usage. We decided to have an entire podcast focused on that topic alone for all of our listeners and here it is!
Dr. Melissa Fenn is an internal medicine specialist at Littleton Equine Medical Center and we have personally had horses go through her treatment and knew she was the perfect person to discuss this topic with. Around the barn its called bleeding, but Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemorrhage is a battle most barrel racers deal with and it's a hot topic on the best way to manage, treat and prevent it. We value and appreciate Dr. Fenn's time and sharing her knowledge with us on this episode and hope you learn as much as we did.
As always with these types of episodes, our goal is to share education on the topic but please always refer to your veterinarian for treatment for your horses.
A few months ago Kayla made a Facebook post congratulating our giraffe training, Switzerland native, best friend on her Lone Star Shootout Derby championship - and everyone thought she was joking. We weren't! Our guest this week is Dani Buhler who not only trains giraffes but is also pretty good at training barrel horses with a resume that includes a college national finals qualification, and just last October, a $50,000 payday at the Pink Buckle winning the reserve derby championship title. We think you will see Dani and her great mare "Yeti" in the results a lot, and now you can know more about the hurdles they have overcome to get to where they are today. Thank you for listening!

Crystal Shumate has created a standout barrel racing breeding program based out of Florida. Her program focuses on mares that she has won on and the 3.5 million dollar sire BHR Frenchies Socks. Crystal has created a world class breeding program that focuses on quality over quantity while also working as a nurse and competing herself. We were thrilled to have the opportunity to talk to Crystal and hear some behind the scene stories from For the Fame Farms and we hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
This weeks episode is a follow up to our first episode of the year about the Barrel Racing Industry Alliance, or BRIA. We followed up on your questions from the last episode, discussed what QData and EquiStat can do for all programs, what black type pedigrees are really all about, and the hopes for the future of our industry, with BRIA member representatives Lainie Whitmire and Robin Glenn. We'd love everyone to share this episode with all producers out there - the more the merrier.
Amber Moore - also known as Amberleigh Moore in the rodeo world - just came off some big wins in the Northwest Futurity run including champion and reserve champion futurity titles at the Sand Cup. This is a great conversation about her background growing up in the Northwest, the story of her million dollar winning mare CP Dark Moon who qualified 4x to the National Finals Rodeo including a 15th place to Reserve World Champion jump in the standings in 2016 and now what Amber is doing with her next generation of superstars. This is a fun one we know you will enjoy!
Here is the second half of the conversation with Billy Myers that covers the bigger picture of how our industry is evolving, even a little cross over about the team roping industry and how the entire western industry is moving in a great direction - the future is bright!
Breeding Season is in full swing and we thought it was perfect timing to talk about one of the most legendary breeding programs in the western industry. We had the chance to talk to Billy Myers of Myers Performance Horses about basically everything that goes into having a top program. From the history of Frenchmans Guy and Myers Ranch to broodmares and stallion selection, 2 year old sales and the future of the industry. In fact, we talked about so many different things, we decided to break this into two episodes for you! Look for "Part 2" later this week!
