With Stacey and JSbu off for the week, Deon G is holding the reins. He asked the kids of KZN what sport or extracurricular activity they are taking up in term 3. In today's age of digital streaming and instant downloads, it's hard to imagine a time when music sharing involved physical tapes and a lot of patience. For many who grew up in the late 20th century, recording songs off the radio onto cassette tapes was an art form—an exercise in timing, precision, and sometimes sheer luck. Back then, listeners tuned into stations like East Coast Radio with a blank cassette ready, eager to capture their favourite hits. The trick was to press 'Record' right when the DJ stopped talking and hope they didn’t interrupt the end of the song. For individuals like Deon G and Andi James, cassettes were more than a medium; they were part of growing up. Deon remembers his Walkman-like device, and Andi recalls recording Mary J. Blige’s hits while battling DJ chatter. Tasha recorded Crazy Tom's “Butterfly,” while Claire caught “Groovy Kind of Love.” For some, like listener 6, it was about learning lyrics. Kerry and Deon remember Saturday rituals with stacks of TDK tapes. CDs eventually replaced cassettes, but the charm of those imperfect recordings lives on. If you remember the cassette era, share your first radio recording memory with East Coast Radio. ECR site
Deon G is on air for Stacey and J Sbu this week on East Coast Radio and decided to take a trip down memory lane. He asked: What is something your elders swear by that you still believe? From castor oil (for everything) to not trusting women who wear white shoes, we heard it all! If you missed it live, listen in! ECR site
Deon G took the reigns of the Drive Show on East Coast Radio and decided to share a personal debacle. One he didn't know faced many others in KZN. Taking to the airwaves, Deon asked you to share scenarios where you received unsolicited advice. We heard from a trained opera singer who more often than not, receives advice from amateur singers! You came through with some headscratching responses and we could not believe what we heard. If you missed it live, listen in! ECR site
They’re not always the loudest in the room, but without them? Total chaos. From the tea lady with perfect timing to the PA who runs the show behind the scenes Styles asked, and KZN came through with stories of their Office MVPs. Hit play to hear who’s keeping it together in workplaces across the province. ECR site
